Anti-Coach snobs...ugh

i just don't care what kind of bag anyone carries or how much they did or didn't pay for it. I do know that anyone who is a snob of whatever bag they carry would never be the kind of person i would want to spend any time with. Too many important things in life besides the price tag of any material object.

+1

i'm really glad op that you started this thread...I guess today, 9/11 I have a different perspective on a LOT of things...why people would spend time negating what others like is beyond me...these are BAGS people and even though they're beautiful and we love them and love talking about them, they are still, just bags...
when I started on tpf I had some lv and prada and coach and others, but, found myself getting caught up in all the hoopla of owning a "holy grail" bag, only to discover that for me, there aren't really any holy grail bags...I love a lot of them...as a matter of fact, I bought the saffiano e/w tote the other day and I have to say that if the name "COACH" wasn't on it? it looked EXACTLY like the LV saffiano leather bags, which I have to say I was able to purchase w/o the LV attitude..(and yes, I buy LV and get attitude when I go in which I don't understand...is getting attitude part of the premiere experience?)...
I think that you should buy what makes you happy and if people are stupid and insensitive enough to make a comment, let it just sit there...if you're quiet and just look at them? they may realize that they said something insulting and if they don't? who needs 'em?!

I completely understand what you are saying. In a world of uncertainty , filled with so many injustices and sorrow, why are we even arguing whose purse, car, house, etc is better? Should we not all be grateful that we are in a place to have and enjoy them? My post was more or less a rant against those who use forums such as this to "prove their value over others" instead of sharing a common passion. As for the attitude in a boutique, that is just poor business practice. The only reason that anyone in any retail establishment has a job is because of the consumers. They needn't powder everyone's behinds, just offer common decency sans bias.

I love my Coach but I long for just one "coated canvas" LV, a Trevi PM or GM:graucho:. I've tried it on at the LV store and now am just saving up to get it!

That's awesome! "Coated Canvas" LV for your 1st is the way to go! Just timeless, I just love seeing old Aubrey Hepburn pictures with her LV monogram speedy, just classic. I hope you get yours sooner than expected & if/when you do please share it, I would love to see it ;)

I like what I like. I don't care what other people like. I like Coach, Roots, Dooney, Linea Pelle, Leibeskind, Frye. I'm looking for great leather at a certain price, I don't care what other people do or like.

I have read this entire post( and I rarely do that). I certainly agree there's a lot of haters.
Since when did a $200 plus bag become low class and tacky? Tacky comes at all price points. And all socioeconomic levels.
More people should take a hard look at themselves in the mirror!
No matter which bag you buy there will always be someone who hates it.
I say enjoy whichever bag makes you smile and give the one finger salute to haters 😜

Well said!

I know how TS feel. Sometimes I do get 'looked down' by colleagues too.
They asked me why I downgraded to coach?
But I don't bother about their remarks and just laugh it off.
I have hermes, chanel, LV, prada in my collection but I love my coach bags and wear them with pride because I don't doubt my taste :p

I love the new lines of Coach bags. especially leather. However, for many reasons I far and away prefer Louis Vuitton. I don't judge if someone carries something other than what I choose to carry. That would make no sense. Like judging what clothes or car or toaster someone chooses.
I am a snob when it comes to fakes, but my biggest pet peave is dirty purses. I am disgusted when I see someone proudly carrying thrir filthy dirty Louis Vuitton canvas bag at the boutique. Gross! And yesterday I saw a woman, nicely dressed, with hair styled, at the cosmetic counter with a really stained Coach tote. It looked like salty sweat stains..Eww WHY don't some women clean their purses? I don't get it.
I am a Vuitton lover who crosses over to other brands, so Maybe I can try to explain the Vuitton snobbery against Coach.

#1 about half of LV lovers used to be Coach or Dooney lovers and they feel they have moved up a level in the purse world. They think that they have figured it out before you. This is the smug snob .
#2 The political & environmental LV element. I fall into this category. If you watch the news or read about China then you know about the working conditions in Donguan, and other loc. In China. The suicides, and the fact that the worker who made your Coach (& many other incl Gucci) handbags makes less in a year than the retail price of that bag. Secondly, is the pollution from Mfg. , especially leather. I have guilt over both these issues that prevent my unbridled enthusiasm for Coach. LV pays their employees a fair wage and properly disposes of mfg waste. This is the green snob
#3 Made in USA - Coach used to be made in New York. A lot of former coach fans have been pissed off about this since about 2001.
#4 Misconception about the varied product lines. LV lovers see one or two Coach bags that are ugly (admit not all have been beauties in last years) and make a generalization without looking further. Coachies who distain LV's do the same thing. no wonder - remember Beyonce's LV denim Tribute Patchwork bag? About $35k of pure fugly.
#5 Quality control - while most Coach bags are beautifully made, a high % make it to the store shelves with obvious defects.
#6 This is a biggie! resale value. I bought and sold many Vuitton bags. Many times being able to use a bag for several years and sell for about 80% of original price. Twice I was able to sell old LV's for more than I paid.
#7 History and nostalgia of the old luggage company from 1854 & the classic speedy carried by Audrey.

You either love LV or you don't and it is a fierce proprietary love. I don't think that this category of purse people so much as "hate" Coach, they just disregard as they do all other brands. They are faithful lovers.

Also consider the Hermes bag lovers who turn up their nose at Vuitton. And the Vuitton leather people look down at the canvas Lv bag people.

So although for me, it's a love affair wth my current and future LV's, I still plan on buying a couple of pretty leather Coach bags in the next few weeks.

After all they are just containers for carrying our stuff.
