A question. Has anyone seen fakes of the very early small metallic tags,

Like the one here

Under 60s-70s?

I am asking about fake tags themselves, not the bags of that period, if that makes sense?

Thank you !
I haven't, but how would you know? I think it is a much smaller group of people who go crazy for the very vintage Bonnie Cashin stuff, even though they sell well, so I don't think it is lucrative for counterfeiters.. I don't know if they have ever been counterfeited but I've never seen one that didn't look like it was really 40+ years old. I imagine someone could put a genuine tag on a fake bag.

Thanks whateve. I bought a bag with that tag, and that look--rode hard and put away wet...

I'll post pics in a few wks as i rehab.

Guess I'm one of that "smaller group of people". Love those bags!!

I found one in an antique mall. The seller had all her newer Coach bags inside a locked glass cabinet, priced very high. The Bonnie Cashin was hanging on a peg on the wall with a $22 price tag. I think I squealed!

What is the circular stamp that isn't a bullseye on this creed?

PART of a bullseye, probably. I've never seen one of the stamping mechanisms but it just looks like the middle section was defective or damaged and didn't work. The bag itself is genuine and the creed and serial stamping match other styles from those Ergo Nubucs from the B plant exactly.

Compare it to this one, both pics are from the same bag, and the serial number stamp has exactly the same flaw in the cross-bar of the "4" as the one you asked about..

Thanks! I knew it was authentic. I thought there was a chance there was another code I didn't know about.

The M3U prefix seems to be a problem. Although a legit prefix, there are fakes with various suffixes.

Here's M3U-6362:

This is an AUTHENTIC bag with the same serial number as the fake above:

I found another style number for which I've been seeing a lot of fakes, one of which was a seemingly "correct" style. Most of the fakes are wristlets and many of them seem to have strange flat metal zipper ends that stick out from the bag. There are "matching" fake bags with the same weird zipper.

Here's a matching fake set!! The wristlet is 7765 and the bag has a "correct" 7469 style number and is a fairly close fake. But both items have the weird zipper.

Thanks, BB!

For comparison, here are the GENUINE 7765 Hamptons Weekend Patchwork Wristlet and the 7469 Legacy Signature Cotton Hobo, notice the difference in the texture of the fabric. All bags in this style should have brass hardware and the proportions in some areas of the bag are slightly different, other than that it's definitely a scary-close fake.

ETA - The GENUINE items in that Legacy Sig Cotton line also bent the "rules" a little, since the C patterns often weren't centered exactly. I've also seen apparently genuine wallets in that pattern where the pattern isn't centered at all. The Cs were so big that trying to center them would have wasted a lot of fabric. The 7551 Totes also had completely random C patterns.

I didn't mention it in my post but the fake 7469 had a zip top closure but AFAIK, the authentic version didn't zip across the top.

ETA: I still had my window open with the yellow set. Another problem which wouldn't easily have been caught is the puffy creed and the prefix. The fake has a 2005 date but the bag should have had an '06 creed.

And the stitching and sealant issues? Yecch!
