Just a reminder

This thread is not for asking for an authentication, it's only for discussing general information on the subject, posting newly verified fake serial numbers, and other subjects related to how Coach items are authenticated.

If you need to ask about the authenticity of specific bags, keyrings or accessories, please use the AUTHENTICATE this COACH! thread - read post number One for a list of the information we need to authenticate an item:

Thanks!

I wasn't sure where to post this but decided that this thread is as good as any since it gets lots of views from people trying to find "rules" when attempting to authenticate Coach items.

As we know, there are no "rules" since Coach's middle names are "Inconsistent" and "Keep them guessing," but I had to post this guide I stumbled upon.

I was searching for something and happened on this guide. Normally I wouldn't have posted it because the guide was written nearly two years ago but based on the Q&A, she's still "authenticating" and it's scary!

DO NOT TRUST THE INFORMATION GIVEN BY efeyas.

Writers email a serial number (no pictures) and the "authenticator" judges authenticity.
This guide states 5 "foolproof" ways to identify whether you're getting a genuine Coach and there's so much bad info here that it's scary.

Oh JEEZ. What a pile of BS.

Looks like she's had at least 2 recent replies - wonder how long they'll last? :graucho:

Hey, at least she allowed them to post! The blogger has to approve the posts in order for them to show. Honestly, I didn't expect them to be published.

Maybe she just allowed all posts since she obviously didn't expect her brilliant masterwork to be criticized. Bet they both disappear when she finally gets around to reading them.

I thought someone might be interested to see the documentation that came with this possible sample bag.

Does the border around Coach (on the creed) look odd to anyone else? And the uneven stitch length around the inside pocket zipper pull look odd to me too.

Is it authentic?

Yes, the border looks funny but I wasn't sure if it was because it was patent and hard to photograph. Compare it to this creed from another Poppy bag. The letters also look too tall for the lozenge, and the lozenge may not be the right shape.

Not only is the zipper pull poorly and unevenly stitched but the ring is big and too thin.

Compare to mine. It's a different ring but notice the thicker gauge. (My bag isn't a poppy and has a different zipper pull but the pic is for comparison of the quality of stitching and hardware.)

I don't believe that listing is for an authentic bag.

Give me a sec. My picture didn't show what I wanted to show.

I have two Poppys. The inside zipper ring is smaller in relation to the pull. My 2010 Poppy has an open ring pull on the outside pocket similar to the ring on this one, except mine doesn't have the stuff in the middle of the ring, and across the top, mine has the Coach cartouche, just like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-C...641?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item462982d089 This one has "est 1941." I don't know if I've ever seen a combination of the ring and leather pull on a Poppy. My 2011 Poppy has a leather zipper pull but it is one long piece of leather folded in half. This one has a double fold. Again I don't recall seeing that type of pull on Poppy, except in the most recent collection. What I remember most about the first Poppy collection was that the outer pulls were very simple rings. I'm not sure all designs were like this, but all my daughter's glams had the ring pulls, as did my hippie and spotlight. I remember thinking that the pulls were one place Coach was cutting costs in order to make the Poppy line more affordable.

ETA: Here's a listing with a picture of the inside pull: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-13835...851?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item3f3d6fe88b

Can it be reported?

At this point, I don't think it's reportable but there's no way I'd recommend anyone purchase it. I see problems but without definite proof that it's fake, I don't feel comfortable reporting it.

Let's see if anyone else chimes in with more opinions.

This is another serial number to add to the ever-growing list of invalid numbers.

4437-576

A post came up on the ebay fashion board where someone bought a bag with a bean bag creed and at first thought it was fake but after researching, discovered that some handbags with bean bag creeds were genuine.

It turns out that there have been other bags with the same serial number:

The number font on those is too thick as well. The Coach lozenge at the top isn't correct for the time period. Even if they weren't bean bag creeds, we would have thought them questionable at least. I think there is only one correct font for the bean bag creeds and that would be the font we see on the bean bag, with smaller letters, plenty of space between the lines, and a deep imprint.

ETA: Note on the bean bag, Coach isn't centered in the lozenge because there was still room left for the word "Leatherware" as in the earlier NYC creeds. On these fakes, Coach is centered.
