:hrmm: Just a general post about ebay. Some of the posters over there are starting to annoy me. They need to start paying for authentications. Unfortunately they will show up here though.

Just venting a bit...

Yes, I know. But they can't be forced to pay, and unless they become really obnoxious I'd rather have them get free authentications than sell fakes.

I agree with this ..... but see below....
Some need to spend time learning...

In some cases, it's not so much that they don't know but sometimes it's a way of advertising without violating the posting rules.

I agree. I think that is what is going on. Some of those items look like he (or she) went to the Factory Store, bought a body bag full of stuff and is advertising their future listings.

I was wondering if somebody could help me with an authentication question. I was looking to purchase a vintage bag for a friend and the code is E96-9870. The seller is saying that it was made in the United States - however from my searches here it looks like the plant code "6" meant that it was made in China in the 2000s? Could somebody please advise? Thank you so much!

Wait for more information regarding the plant code. However, if authentic, the bag isn't vintage, having been made in 1999.

You're going to need to post pictures in the authentication thread if you want credible advice. It's impossible to authenticate or identify a bag without pictures.

Thank you for the quick reply! And yes you're right about the vintage :smile1:

I've asked for better photos so when I have them I can post in the thread. Thanks again!

The plant code is probably G or C.

There's one Ebay listing where the seller lists that as the serial number. However the creed photo is so bad and out of focus that it's completely unreadable. We NEVER recommend buying a highly-faked style or ANY Coach bag without a clear readable photo of the creed and serial number.

A new fake number has just turned up - bags with this number are ALWAYS fake :

A8M-4896

It's shown up on at least 3 different style bags so far, all classic-style leather bags. Style numbers in the 48xx range would probably only have been used for wallets and small accessory bags and clutches.
Well.....I went ahead and bought a lot of bags on the bay without authenticating first (no creeds pictured and too little time left on the auction) and what looks to be a Stewardess bag has this creed......gggrrr.......will contact seller for refund.

If you're within 45 days of the end of the listing, you can file a dispute if the seller balks.

A general authenticity question - did any (real ;) Coach bags ever say "Made in the USA" on the creed stamp -as opposed to "Made in the United States"?
It seems like I've only run across fakes with the "USA" marking?

Authentic bags do have "Made in U.S.A." on the creed. My lightweights bags have this. I have only seen it on pre-1994 bags. I can't remember if I have ever seen one with "Made in the U.S.A."
