I recently received this bag:
COACH RARE 60's VINTAGE NEW YORK CITY MAHOGANY LEATHER SHOULDER HANDBAG PURSE
Seller: salearea
Item: 370799134028
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-RARE-...-LEATHER-SHOULDER-HANDBAG-PURSE-/370799134028
This bag is 10.75" wide x 6" tall x 2.5" deep and the straps are very thin, similar to the straps you see on the Cashin double kisslock bags, rather than what you would see on a Basic Bag, for instance. (The 9" bag on the AUTHENTICATE THIS thread appears to have the same double strap as the Basic Bag.) Hard to tell if the straps may have been replaced, but I can't think of a bag off the top of my head with a double skinny strap and clip ends. (The strap is 34" not including the clips.)
My bag has the small cartouche stamp.
So it appears that there were two sizes of this bag and production spanned the time that Coach was using the small cartouche marking to the time they adopted the NYC Creed/Serial number.
Now that I have the bag in hand, it is obvious that the bag is dyed brown and whoever did it did not dye the inside. So it started out the color you see on the back wall of the bag and not brown.
One question, if anybody knows - did cartouche stamp pre-date or post-date the metal tag or did it depend on the bag? I am a little fuzzy on the order and timing of the cartouche stamp, the metal tag, the adoption of the creed, and the adoption of unique serial numbers.
