Fascinating - thanks for sharing this info, Hyacinth! You estimated that the Stewardess I got was probably from the mid-1980s, so that would make sense in terms of dates.

I was curious because I've only found a few references to Coach bags with Falcon zippers (one from eBay: http://www.ebay.com/gds/coach-buying-guide-for-newbies/10000000009867660/g.html; and one from a Goodwill store: http://ourgoodwillstore.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/how-to-authenticate-coach-bags/). I wasn't sure how reliable either is, so I wanted to run it by the experts here!

Thanks again.

There are at least 7 or 8 brands that they've used, maybe more. It's a pretty safe bet that if the bag is genuine, so is the zipper. And with very rare exceptions like the fakes with "Coach" stamped into the zipper pulls, zippers should never be used for authentication.

I don't have any reason to suspect that the zipper was replaced on this bag, and its condition seems to match that of the bag. Perhaps Falcon wasn't used as widely or for as long as some of the other brands.

Thanks again!

Talon was used on most vintage bags, probably at least 90 percent.

Quick question...what's the difference in the "Authenticate This Coach" sticky and the "Answers to Authenticity" one?

I have an easy question and don't know where to post it so will give it a try here. All I'm trying to do is determine the date a bag was made for my sister. I can get photo's if needed but she's not nearly as picky as I am.

I've seen pics of the creed patch...know it was made in Costa Rica and the number/letters are

MOP-9421

Any ideas? I've tried to figure it out myself and can come up with the M = December....guessing the year is 1990...could be 2000...that's where it gets confusing to me.

Thanks for any help. My sister will appreciate it.

0=2000

A bag made in 1990 would have a random serial number. In 1994, Coach began using serial numbers with date/plant codes and style numbers.

Hoping the authenticators can help me with a style number..
The creed is M5C-4191 and it's an authentic Coach with the old cotton sateen striped lining. Have done a few searches and can't find.. maybe in one of the old catalogs? I can do an 'authenticate' post but I'd rather just know if this style number has a name, or you've ever seen one on the PurseForum? Thanks so much, in advance. :)

The two Salearea Guides on Serial Numbers and on Creeds will explain how serial numbers from 1994 and newer are coded.

The "Authenticate This Coach" thread is where questions about specific listings, bags or styles should be asked. This thread is more for information about what makes a Coach item real or fake.

Sorry, I don't know the name for sure. One of the experienced Coach collectors called it a Lexington Soft Shoulder Bag although 1995 seems early for a Lexington. The buckle and serial number are more like a Soho. I've seen several of them, all with serial numbers from December 1995 or January 1996 But it's not in the Holiday 95 or Spring 96 catalogs. It may have been made for the Outlets. Almost all the creeds I've seen have an outlet stamp.

Here's a photo of the style.

That's the one! Thanks for looking for me.

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone had posted a general guide about buying Coach keychains? I tried tried to search on this thread and Authenticate This, but didn't see anything...?
Thanks in advance!

There are a few ebay guides (trusted) by a particular seller but they're on specific styles of keychains.

Unfortunately, keychains are highly faked, a few "better" than ohters, but your best bet is to post any questions here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-763164.html#post22406795

Did you already purchase some that you're wondering about? The AT thread isn't just for potential (future) purchases.

Yes, I did. Naively, I thought that most fobs would be authentic since they are "small" items so who would bother faking them? Clearly, that logic was totally flawed!! I ended up with some NWT fobs that caught my attention...two of them have tags that just seem off, like they are reprints, and the paper doesn't feel the same as the tags on items I've purchased directly from Coach. Another NWT (the legacy penguin) came in a box that was supposedly for the Legacy Mittens. I did get a couple that appear to be packaged in the same way as FOS items, so I'm crossing my fingers on those...

Thanks for letting me know that I can post past purchases on the AT thread. :) It's very kind of you to share your expertise. I will take some photos over the weekend.

Most fobs on ebay are authentic. The safest ones to buy are those that are currently available in stores. If a bunch of sellers all have the same fob, they probably bought it at the outlet and most likely, those are safe to buy. You can look in the fob clubhouse and in the reference library to see what the fobs are supposed to look like. Most fobs sold at Coach stores and factory stores don't come with tags because the stores remove them before they get displayed, so having a tag doesn't make a fob more likely to be authentic. Fobs bought from FOS seem to come with the tags. Very few fobs come with boxes except those sold at department stores, like the Legacy penguin, and it is very likely that it could be authentic and just put into the wrong box. I have also gotten fobs with fur in boxes. My theory is that those kinds are shipped in boxes to keep the fur from being smashed.

The fobs that are most likely faked are the breast cancer ones and the rare older ones. You should always get these authenticated.
