Question for everyone as we look to optimize our closets.

If you had to give up 1 bag from what you consider to be your "main" collection, what would it be. And...what's keeping you from giving it up now?

My Prada Vitello Daino bag. I'm no longer in love with it. And it's a bit big for the current small bag trend, though it's good for out of the office meetings since I can put in papers there. Where to sell is my issue. I could list in our local ebay but I'm sure it will take forever to sell. The consignment shop quoted very low for it.

Wow! Can't believe that I am so behind on the 2017 thread!

Some of you know me, for others, "hi, I'm Mimmy"! [emoji112]

I lurked on the 2015 and 2016 threads. I was pretty active before that. I took my time away to really determine "my style". The ladies on this thread have impeccable taste; that's a given! My problem is that I am a marketing expert's dream. If something is presented to me in an appealing way, I like it! [emoji106]This resulted in me ending up with some bags and clothing, that while lovely, had nothing to do with me. [emoji53]

So during that time, I sold, gifted and bought too. This time with more of a plan and a purpose though.

I now have 14 bags; 16 if I count my Le Pliage's.
In 2017 I plan to add only 1 or 2 bags. I like this "skinny" bag count!

16 slg's; this count includes 3 pochettes. I hope to only add 1 or no slg's.

I think that I have finally discovered what works for me. [emoji3] I think that it was louvigilante, who said, I don't have to own everything that I like". True words of wisdom. [emoji432]

Sorry about this long post, but I am hoping that writing it down will keep me accountable!

I don't have a "main collection". I only have bags I still use and bags I don't want to use anymore. I'm trying to get rid of the latter. Some are gifts from important people in my life so I'm kinda hesitate on that. But I can only keep those old stuff for too long. :(

Oooh good question, I had to think hard about this.
The bag I would give up is this one, because I find the colour very summery. It was a conscious effort to break away from my usual fairly neutral choices, but now I wish I'd chosen a more flexible all-year-round colour, especially as I don't have that many bags in my collection. Reason I will keep it is that it is a fab bag for spring and summer, especially with casual clothes, and I do really love it.

I love all the varied responses on what bag we'd part with and why we haven't. I've spent a lot of time the past year continually asking myself the question and it's helped me get rid of some bags.

My on the bubble bag is my silver PS small Courier. I don't wear it much. I hesitate to sell it because I feel like I will wear it. I also hesitate because I'll lose a lot on it. But I think I'm going to list it anyway.

I'm a bit odd I actually don't have any bags I consider as main collection or permastash bags. My oldest bags are 2 LV that I've had for about 4-8 years but used sparingly. I didn't sell both as my mother forbids me to do so. One of it is actually hers. My "regular" bags come and go too fast. They rarely made it to 1 year with me [emoji32]. Since I intend to cut down my buying in 2017 I hope I'll be able to enjoy my bags well and even break it in.
Oh wow! I didn't know that you usually get rid of bags within a year. Do you do so to stay on trend or because you like a fresh take on your wardrobe? I'm trying (definitely trying not yet succeeding) to go the opposite way. I'd like almost all of my collection to be stable. That's why I set one of my goals at a 100% success rate (no returns or flipping for anything I buy in 2017) It just seems to have taken time to figure out my style and needs.
That's emphatic!

Welcome back and yay for your "skinny" bag count. It seems you took some well used time to figure out what you want and need to do!!

Do you have a picture?

It wasn't hard. LOL! I looked at my list and just took off all the delicate, light colored or evening colored bags. Then I added back in a couple of lamb and a Nubuck bag as a real challenge. I think doing this in January will cause me to look at the bags differently - . But, seriously, if the weather is yucky, I'll have to default on the challenge and try it another month. No point in risking a bag in a blizzard.

To that point, think you could still swing 15/31. I could think of 10 bags you own that could be worn in January. But you have to do what makes you comfy!!

The Gucci. sigh. Every time I see it, I wanna keep it. I adore the turquoise / teal color. So I know I'I not ready to let it go. Its smaller red leather sister however is on it's way out. Speaking of red bags, did you ever sell your red LV? It's patent right? If you haven't sold it, that may be a good bag for this awful weather.

It's great that you know what you like. That makes buying - and more importantly resisting - so much easier!
Spark,
i can do 10 for 31 so that's what I'll do instead of the 3 for 31. I have to go and pick my bags to wear. I have finally got a buyer for my red bag. My SS is buying for his girlfriend for xmas. He's suppose to pick up this week so then I will count it out. Maybe your feeling a teal Chanel to replace the teal Gucci

Spark,

I'm giving up DH before I let go from my permanent collection. The thought is just sickening lol. Ok now let me see....I guess I could sacrifice my workhorse artsy cause honestly i can't part with my flaps. If I had to let a flap go then it would be the Black Chanel jumbo. The reason being that I can always score another black jumbo. No I take that back because its a single flap so I'm going to have to sacrifice the workhorse.

Have you tried Tradesy. You can post there and if/when it sells they send you email. The only issue is that the rate for selling recently went up
