It's day 9 of my no spend challenge. :oh: I haven't had any more "unauthorized" spends since I bought the earrings I mentioned. However, I'll be very happy for this to end on the 31st. My modified no spend version gives me some breathing room because I can spend on already budgeted items like dining out when I travel, etc. But, it would be pretty challenging to do a total no unnecessary spend month. I may try that next year.

Anyway, the earrings I bought to match the necklace came in. And yay! They work perfectly! :amuse:View attachment 3628312
I'm starting to have fun with my jewelry list. My casual fine jewelry items are giving me a lot of joy. I'm glad I made the decision to get rid of costume jewelry.
Nice match!

this is mine, SS 2016, really thick, sturdy and great looking leather...
never rented, but purchased a few from a consignment with good return policy, if i didn't like it, i returned it and got my money back
Gorgeous Bal!

I think it is very nice. The canvas can easily handle the rain. It is the vachetta I would be concerned with.
+1

I think your instinct to rent one and try it with several different ideas is sound.

I'm a newcomer on this yearly thread, and obviously I've only see a small portion of your style, but from what I've seen, this Jimmy Choo looks a little more "you" than the Bals. The bag IS a little edgy, but I'd say it's MORE fem/glam/chic. Balenciaga makes really stunning bags, but I'm not really seeing the overlap with your closet. I hope I'm not being rude.
Definitely not rude and exactly the feedback I need! Thanks!

Your point is what's hovering in my mind. I just don't know that it's a match for my wardrobe. But, they are gorgeous.

I think I'll look at how people style it on instagram. That can also give me perspective.

I bought an LV (my first LV) cross body - the musette - it's from 2004, but unworn and perfect. I was thinking it would be a great wet weather bag, but....even though its a good price for its condition, I just keep looking at it and wondering whether a canvas bag can be worth it - which has aways been my personal "block" about buying LV (no offense to those who love LV btw). Here it is, any advice and opinions would be helpful

So I love LV, but I don't typically wear the canvas, so take all of this with a grain of salt. I do wish yours had a little more patina on the vachetta to keep it more worry-free, but if you're willing to take minimal care of it, you can help it age well.

I have four canvas bags from LV, and I appreciate that they're lightweight. I find the monogram to be a great neutral. I agree that you'll just have to try it on with different outfits and see how you like it!

I think you're right, I'm going to sleep on it and try it on again in the morning

No offense taken, lol.

I wouldn't consider it a wet weather bag due to the vachetta straps and trim. The bag is very nice for its age. You scored a great preloved bag.

When I bought my first all-leather LV bag, I thought I would never get canvas again. Obviously, I was wrong. DH gave me the Retiro with red leather trim as a birthday gift, and I love it. LV canvas is truly the best canvas in the premier range, IMO.

I recently bought a new piece of LV luggage, the Keepall 45. It is beautiful, durable, supple canvas. I foresee it lasting for many years and being passed on to one of two of my children. (My DH's Keepall will go to the other child.)

LV started out producing luggage for royalty and the elite class, so it is really the canvas master in the business. I'm willing to pay the money for LV canvas because I appreciate its history and its quality.

Is this still how the bag looks now? Very clean vachetta! My vachetta patina-ed even in storage.

My plan for 2017 is no new bags - I've never been more committed than I am today! Every year I make a post in this thread, read a lot of lovely comments for inspiration, live through others reveals and take short breaks from the forum itself to stop the impulse need to buy a new bag.

I've had so much enjoyment over the years with bags: buying/selling circle for leather bags <$300 which was fun to experiment different styles, and selling all my middle range Oroton and Marc by Marc Jacobs to premier designer. However I've found that I'm not happy buying premier designer bags anymore - gone is the thrill of the hunt and the joy of using the bag - because all I can think of is the cost I spent on each bag. I'm in a great financial position, but when I combine the nasty comments I receive about my bags and the fact I bought over my mental thresh hold of what I'm comfortable with I have decided to sell what I can and stop buying.

My Collection
  • Chanel: Classic Flap Jumbo, GST, Kelly Jumbo
  • Prada: BN1786, Prada BN2274
  • Louis Vuitton Canvas: DE Neverfull MM, DE Speedy B 30, DE Favorite MM, Monogram Pallas MM
  • Louis Vuitton Leather: Epi Alma PM, Empreinte Speedy B 30
  • Michael Michael Kors: Large Kirby
  • Oroton: Entourage Tote E/W

To Sell in 2017
  • Marc Jacobs Large Single (too small for my needs)
  • Marc Jacobs Single (too small for my needs, never used)
  • Michael Michael Kors Medium Kirby (never used, too small, don't buy online unless seen in person)
  • Chanel Kelly Jumbo (never used, too afraid to use because it's pink)
  • Louis Vuitton Epi Neverfull MM (never used, too big, stupid purchase because I panicked that my credit was expiring)
  • Louis Vuitton Vernis Alma PM (never used, felt it was too flashy but will always love the colour Pomme D'Amour)

My bags have been on ebay for some time! No buyers yet. But I did have one buyer on Gumtree, which news article later reported was happening, about setting up to meet people in public and rob them. Someone tried that with the Neverfull Epi and I am so glad she kept "standing me up" twice in one day.

I just sent my Chanel Kelly Jumbo in Pink for consignment to My Timeless Luxuries. I can't believe I have done it!!!

We're now in March and I haven't bought a bag either. Feeling proud!

I love these colors so much! You did a great job picking this scarf. And your bag is such a beautifully saturated cobalt!!
Thanks Spark! Getting the 3 scarves made me realize that only a few styling options can work with our weather (haha, in the first place I knew that scarves are not really for us). Even if I stay in airconditioned rooms, I think I'd look silly if I have the scarves fully wrapped around my neck.

Congrats on no new bags in!! Browsing some other threads, people suggest that you if you really need to do a meet up, do it in a bank.

That is a very good idea!
