I had a similar handbag journey. My most expensive bag was from Anthropologie. Then my husband bought me some really lovely leather bags in Florence, and somehow a light switch went off. I'm still careful on how I spend, but I really enjoy premier bags, and I like having a collection of them.I used to be that person. Then I "realized" I could afford premiere bags. I was self limiting for no good reason other than I was raised by over the top thrifty people. I've never fully abandoned being thrifty but, I let myself play.
Now I buy what I want - premier bags that make me super happy. And I gave myself permission to have lots of variety within that new framework. I'd be miserable with one or two bags.
I find my target price keeps moving, so I abandoned that idea. I too like to try new styles and colors, so I buy easily as well. I use my bags, for the most part, but still, it's definitely a weakness.I have the limit coz I know I'm not comfortable paying that much just for a bag. Truly, it's the only reason I stop buying Chanel since the price of their jumbo exceed that. I just can't swallow it. I find I'm more comfortable with anything below $2,800.- Beyond that to the limit, I'll think and think and think (I'll still buy if I deem the bag worth spending on) and if it gets behind the limit, I'll just run. I can't deal with that much money out of my pocket for a bag. (The idea of what that much money can be for other people will trigger in so hard.) The stress of thinking and obsession are just not healthy to my brain so if I see the price tag beyond that, I know I'll automatically just admire it from afar. This is why Hermes is the thing I'll only admire. I like some of their bags like Kelly and Victoria, but never manage to buy one. Years ago, I even got offered The Perfect Kelly and I just couldn't part with that much money. I like that bag, love even, coz after years, the memory is still fresh in my head. I, sometimes, want to kick myself, but that feeling is also fading and I know I wouldn't change my decision if I can go back in time. My feeling toward my limit is stronger. And what happened to my rational after Chanel's price increases confirms me I'll never step behind this level. It has to be something out of this world, perhaps, to make me swallow my word. But since I find I enjoy local, small, independent, startup, or even freebie bag just the same, I don't know what can make me go over board. And seriously, I'm not curious enough to know. My closet is already stuffed and I have bags to last me years even if I change it weekly, which I don't. My problem is more about buying it too easily and curious too much for my own good, if it's under the limit and within my comfort zone, of course. [emoji6]
I can understand why some people find them inconvenient, but it's such a pretty bag!Yay for Alma! I don't wear mine enough.
Wise words, msd_bags.Might be good for your wallet in the meantime?I believe our love for certain things goes on a cycle, or if not, we find other things to love. I'm also scared to find myself not wanting bags anymore sometime in the future since it is such a passion at this time, but that is reality, our passion could change.
I'm sorry you feel that way. I enjoy your posts and the conversations they spark. I have and love a lot of not-very-popular bags, so I enjoy seeing what's out there.I just felt like my posts are not well received here anymore, and that discussing my dilemma was not welcome.
I guess because I am thinking of less popular bags, it's not exciting.
Pessie, this is stunning!I just adore your Dora tenKratwhat a gorgeous bag

I'm glad you kept it! I just looove thick, chewy leathers. I don't think nearly enough bags have them.Ha hait's funny but I nearly sent it back to be exchanged for another one because the goatskin on this was so creasy and soft - but 2 years on this is what makes the bag for me, I love it!
It's very hardwearing too - this is my go-to bag for rainy days.
Goatskin can be VERY different, i have Bals, older and a new one, all goats and all feel different, you gotta try it!!I'm glad you kept it! I just looove thick, chewy leathers. I don't think nearly enough bags have them.
I don't have any goat leather bags but I know a lot of people have said on TPF that they love it. I'm going to keep an eye out. Maybe I can find something in this material for my workhorses.
Maybe you just need a little break to enjoy what you have? Sometimes things like this go in phases.I'm wondering if handbags are still something I love. Maybe the love isn't there anymore.
But then I'm not too into clothes, especially after KonMarie-ing everything. Same with shoes. I only wear simple flats anyway, and there's only so many to have before they all seem redundant.
So that left accessories. Bags were more fun due to the functionality, but now that I'm at a point where I'm lusting after nothing, I wonder if the love is gone.
I used to be tempted by what others would show here, and although everything is nice, nothing has made me want to grab my wallet and go running for the store.
Might have gone too far in trying to be "minimal."
Yes, me too, it's been a great bag, I have it in black too but in a much smoother firmer goatskin. Have you had a look at Balenciaga? The metallic edge bags are in a beautiful goatskinI'm glad you kept it! I just looove thick, chewy leathers. I don't think nearly enough bags have them.

That is a man worth keeping dear. How lucky you are and apparently he thinks he is blessed as well.Happy Women's Day my pocket friends!!
My DH and DS surprised me with a bunch of colourful tulips and cooked a lovely meal for me today!![]()
They match perfectly, well done - looks like a set!!It's day 9 of my no spend challenge.I haven't had any more "unauthorized" spends since I bought the earrings I mentioned.
However, I'll be very happy for this to end on the 31st. My modified no spend version gives me some breathing room because I can spend on already budgeted items like dining out when I travel, etc. But, it would be pretty challenging to do a total no unnecessary spend month. I may try that next year.
Anyway, the earrings I bought to match the necklace came in. And yay! They work perfectly!View attachment 3628312
I'm starting to have fun with my jewelry list. My casual fine jewelry items are giving me a lot of joy.I'm glad I made the decision to get rid of costume jewelry.
Actually, I have.Yes, me too, it's been a great bag, I have it in black too but in a much smoother firmer goatskin. Have you had a look at Balenciaga? The metallic edge bags are in a beautiful goatskin. I really love the leather but the hardware doesn't appeal to me unfortunately.
Thanks! I'm really happy with them and would have been kicking myself forever if I hadn't just gone ahead and grabbed them. They match perfectly, well done - looks like a set!!
I have (predictably I suppose) failed at the no spend in March plan. I bought a bag, but I think I'm going to return it, which would put me back on track![]()
this is mine, SS 2016, really thick, sturdy and great looking leather...Actually, I have.I really love Bals. And I am kind of crazy about the metallic edge version. But, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I can't decide if Bals are bags I need in my closet to expand my options beyond what I typically wear or if they are bags I need to lust after but not buy.
I've never rented a bag but I've been tempted to try one out for a month from a place like Bag, Borrow or Steal. I've actually thought about that a couple of times recently when I liked bag x but wasn't sure if I should pull the trigger. Has anyone rented a bag before buying it to make sure it worked for them?
Very me... i like the hoops and chains and jingle, you can literally hear me coming...It's day 9 of my no spend challenge.I haven't had any more "unauthorized" spends since I bought the earrings I mentioned.
