After purging most of my closet and belongings, I have no issue letting it go, even gifts. I just wait awhile. Lol.
I want to let go of a back pack my MIL bought for me a couple years ago. It was fun to wear when I got it, but it's a bit too small for me for the times I actually need a backpack ... it's a very bight pink so it would be noticeable if gone ... i just feel bad c'uz she was so proud to have picked out a bag for me..on that note though, talking about it has given me an idea to just remove the straps and use it as a top handle, which may actually be more functional for me... hm.

Hello everyone! Finally finished everyone's post so I felt it was my time to post...

I'd love to join you in the 2017 adventure ahead of us.

I'll try not to make a lengthy post...
I was a premier only kind of girl as soon as I got my first big girl job, but never one to pass up a bargain. As life evolved and I became a mother of three darling boys, my collection evolved to more contemporary for risk of damage reasons, and I kept most of my fave premieres I look at longingly.

2015 I purged 60% of my bags and "simplified". Slowly my collection has grown again as I found a new love for rehabbing vintage leathers.
I hope to reconnect with my real style this year and let go of those that do not fit my needs.

It will be tough, as I'm expecting little number 4 and bags are the only fun thing to shop for when preggers.

I will try the 15 in 31 for January - which will be tough to transfer that often as many days I am a bag lady with two bags, one for me and one for the kiddos.

Loved reading everyone's post and look forward to the coming year!
congrats on your up and coming #4!!! The last two years felt like I was reconnecting with my style, or trying to figure out what it really was.. in doing so, I did let go of a lot, clothes and bags.. it really helps to talk it out

Welcome SuzieSueSure! Congratulations on #4! I'm also a mom of 4, one still in diapers so I feel ya on the mom bag + own bag dichotomy. However, I find when the kids are with me I can leave their 'supply bag' in the car and take a mini crossbody with essentials in for errands. Of course with a newborn you need everything all the time. Jujube diaper bags are incredible with insane resale value, just saying. I have a be right back backpack style one in black nylon with gold hardware that looks very grown up, but their tokidoki and hello kitty prints are super popular. The bff is probably the most popular (messenger/backpack convertible), and they can all be thrown in the wash. Very handy when carting poppy cloth diapers home (if you are into that). That said, I only carry MY bag now that my baby is out of the explosive poop stage and just have certain criteria for the size shape and structure of my own bag such that it works hands free and I can get a diaper out with one hand, etc. Exterior pockets for two sippy cups is a big plus for me these days and harder to find in a pretty leather purse that I consider one of MY bags, but not impossible! One brand i like with multiple exterior pockets for water bottles and sippys is mz wallace and it's lighter than an all leather bag but still so pretty. Their actual diaper bag(Kate) is way too big unless transatlantic travel with two littles is what you are doing that day (that was me on Monday and Tuesday this week).
Ok I'm done! You did not even ask for a soliloquy on bags when you have four kids but I guess I felt like spewing my thoughts regardless! ;)
this is a very informative post and when I get to that life stage, I'm going to read it for tips!

My current collection -> my goal (in brackets what I really need/use)
10 -> 7 (4) SLGs
3 -> 0 small bags
11 -> 5 (2) work bags/medium-sized bags
5 -> 2 (1) laptop bags
5 -> 2 (1) leisure bags (after work bags)
2 -> 1 (0) summer bags
2 -> 0 travel bags
5 -> 1 (1) evening bags
3 -> 1 (1) gym bags

Most of the surplus purchases happened when I tried to search a perfect work bag in black. I found many perfect bag models but they weren't available in black so I bought in other neutral colours. :/ With a realistic approach, I don't believe I could get all surplus bags sold during next year but will see. If I succeed, I can use the money for ordering a custom made work bag which will cost around $800 and I need get used to the habit of not buying new bags every year. If I get bored, the used custom made bag will sell for $30-50 which is not wise at all.

Total ban would not work for me. This will only increase the change of craving even more bags. When I slip, I end up buying even more. I would rather allow myself to buy one bag in a whole year so I have to choose wisely.

My bag collection is not a real issue yet but my wardrobe has became hard to manage (along with the makeup, accessory, jewellery & shoes collection). I just realized I've makeup for entire next year supply. Downsizing rate for these categories will be around -90% but that's off topic. :p

Is there another thread where I can find very mean people who can make you feel very bad if you slip from your goal? :idea:
I really like how you identified your goal number and your realistic number.. that's a great way to stay focused on not added more, but at the same time, letting go. I'm gong to try that! thansk for the idea! We talk a lot about other areas of our closet here too, so feel free to share! I know a lot of us try to minimize here as well... there's also the Cleaning out the Closet thread which is great too!

OMG! My new bag came in!!!:panic:Some of you know I've been going down my "to buy" list and hunting a gold bag for 2 years. Finding the perfect one that doesn't make me look like I'm a Vegas show girl was hard. :lol:

But I found it! I just got a new medium Chanel Boy in perforated gold lamb. :hbeat:

I. Love. This. Bag!!

I'm sleepy so this isn't a great beauty shot but work with me. LOL!

I got her in almost like new condition with all the extras: box, flower, ribbon, book, cloth, etc. from a very lovely lady. I'm sending the bag off to be authenticated but I got an initial visual verification and to my (uneducated and excited) eye ;) she looks good. Please keep your fingers crossed. I'm in love! Really. I want to marry this bag. :hbeat:

This will replace my gold Dior Rendez Vous that never really worked for me - too small, strap drop not good for my height - another stupid compromise. I'll learn one day :facepalm:

Getting this bag changes my goals for 2017 because I planned to seriously hunt a gold bag next year. So I'll rethink my goals and share in a bit.

But til then...WHOO HOO!!! Thanks for helping me shop and analyze my closet. All the conversation and positive peer pressure has really helped me stay on task and get the bags I need for my collection. :happydance: I really appreciate it!!!
WOW, way to ring in the new year! She's gorgeous.

I wear my Fitbit with my watch haha. I changed the band to leather so it matches well.

Hopefully they'll have your options soon so you can check them out.
Are you ok with the leather MG uses? Isn't it prone to scratches?

Not sure of the SL bag, I've seen them on sale at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, so I've seen that they can take some beating but not much.

The MG I'm looking at is of tumbled leather, which really is your usual pebbled leather. Here she is:

I would like to join if I may.

Not very clear on my goals, yet. But the first one is to

1. sell every bag and SLG that I don't truly like.

SLG: I don't own that many SLG, probably I should rather buy than sell ( I even don't have a proper wallet), but actually I can't decide between colorful or neutral SLGs. I have some mono LV items that I love, and some small Hermes. Somehow they don't work well together.

I'm rethinking the Hermes tpm Evelyne as one of my bags for next year to accompany the LV Capucines BB.

I could do the search at both my potential vacation spots.

Still not sure on my SLG situation, as this is a big weakness for me.

If you get an Evelyne tpm, we can be bag sisters with it and the Herbag! [emoji130] I have found my mini Evie to be one of my best bag purchases! [emoji7]

I did a LOT of this last year, and also rearranged drawers with the Kondo "folding techniques," so all the clothes/scarves/coats/jewelry that I kept are a lot more accessible. But I think I can do an additional clearing in 2017, because I lost 20 pounds in 2016 (this is in addition to 10 pounds I lost in 2015) so I have clothes that are now much too large for me.

I feel a bit nervous about giving everything away, but at the very least I can move some items to "deep storage." I have already divested myself of oversized, drapey tops that I bought when I put on the weight in the first place back in 2013 (this was due to medical issues and related medications that have since been resolved), and if the weight continues to stay off in 2017 I'll give away the remainded of the larger clothes next December. That feels like a manageable goal!
Wow, Elaine! Losing 30 lbs following medical issues is really a tough thing. A very hard thing to do. I'm so glad you are healthier and were able to get the weight off. Kudos!!!!

I think your goal is a great one. I have no doubts your weight will stay off. :tup:

OMG I love this bag.....it is the perfect shade of gold and I love that it isn't all plain solid gold. The texture on the bag gives it something extra. It will come back authenticated the purse gods wouldn't be that cruel.

Congrats on the clean bill of health and the weight loss. I have gained 15 pounds that I'm in process of trying to shed now. Thankfully my I caught my depression in time.

This didn't seem like a lot to me. For example, I eliminated furs I don't wear and will upgrade to get the one that is a gap in my wardrobe - more joy and more utility. (DD scored one of the furs too. LOL! She's tiny at 5' to my 5'8" so I'll get it resized for her.) I wasn't wearing the sunnies I purged. I purged all my regular coats last year because they were too big and / or out of style, etc. and carefully I bought myself new ones I LOVE to wear. So this process is really just proper curating.

I've never missed anything I've ever gotten rid of - not clothes, not a kitchen appliance because I know how I live and I deliberate over the items on the bubble. You know it's taken me a year to decide if I want the patent Chanel. :whut: It may seem like overkill to dither over it so long (and I appreciate everyone's patience as I keep asking and talking about an item) but that process leads to zero regrets. My collections of everything have gotten smaller but much higher quality and interestingly much higher utility and variety so it's been a fun ride.:tup: I'm the opposite of a hoarder. I can't stand owning extra stuff.

And, nah, I generally don't care for costume jewelry. I don't like brooches, pins, big chunky necklaces, hair accessories, etc. Someone recently revealed some really cute pins on the Chanel thread. I almost thought about adding one to my collection because they were adorable but said NOPE! Sparkle that thing will gather dust in your closet. :lol: So, I kept my cultured pearl necklaces & earrings (I guess those are sorta real?), my Hermes Collier de Chien bracelet, some evening jewelry that would be 6 figures to do in gold & diamonds :no: and a few pair of interesting earrings. This purge put quite a few items on my fine jewelry to buy list. :graucho: But in the end, I'll have half the "junk" but an even more well rounded fine jewelry collection.

When you purge just start with the items you don't wear. Your clutches may be a good place. But, I'd love to spend a day with you in your closet with those blouses. I think you'd end up stabbing me as I tried to get some out of there. :lol:
Spark,

DD hit the jackpot...you mentioned the wool fur cap.... I think that a classy piece to have. I love fur also....lately I had been wearing my fox trapper hat. ...how I love it. Cape trimmed in fox would be so lux.

I don't have much costume jewelry either as I don't wear necklaces. These tend to look rather foolish on me. I will wear branded cuff bracelets from Hermes, Fendi etc but that's about mixed with my trusty yurman bracelets but that's about it. I kinda want a Cartier love bracelet but I don't want to pay that insane price for branded gold. I'm afraid to get one preloved because of all the fakes.

I have decided to purge the clutches and see how well that goes. My blouses on the other hand is different story. I just counted them all and here is grand total- 140 blouses, 22 demin shirts & 20 additional casual shirts that are hanging. No I haven't worn them all, but I like idea of color options when I get dressed. I will admit I have too many demin and too many blush blouses. Writing this has got me to identify a new goal.....no more demin shirts unless I do 1 in two out. I would never stab you Spark I would just take your new gold Boy

Ooh! Share pics? Maybe you can get a strap for it and make it into those trendy mini backpack crossbody bags.

I adore your tpm Evelyne and we would be totally Bag sisters!!

I like my PM, but it's sometimes big. And I just like H colors so much, but the Evelyne is really the only bag I like in my price range. Haha.

Welcome redgreenblue! Your first goal is a great one. It will allow you really see your collection when you've gotten rid of the extras.

I'm not an SLG girl and it took me a loooong time to buy a proper wallet. And like you, I initially didn't know what to get since I didn't want multiples. But I got a lot of good feedback on this thread. Black is my neutral so I bought a small black lizard Gucci wallet I adore that I use daily. Then I bought a Chanel fuchsia pink card case that I use for smaller bags. So I got a neutral and my favorite color. I also ended up buying another small Dior wallet (black with fuchsia interior) that I switch into every now and then. And, my pouches are inexpensive Hello Kitty which make me very happy. Everything is pink, black and white so it looks coordinated too.
So just go slow and take your time. You'LL find your perfect SLG's. :flowers:

You've had a hard year with your mom passing and some health issues. It's not surprising you gained a little weight. You'll get it off in no time, I'm sure. :hugs:
