Do all vintage Gucci Bags have serial numbers?

I have just won a bid on Ebay for my first gucci bag. I was so happy but am a little hesitant because it doesn't have a serial number. When I asked the seller she replied: "from my research this bag is from the late 60's early 70's (I am not an expert) it is from my grandmother's closet and was never used as far as I can tell. Anyway the early bags did not have serial #'s and this can be checked on the web."

Can anyone authenticicate...please?

I see you found the correct ATG thread and have received a response there.

:biggrin:Hello Everyone!
This is my very first post. I sell vintage bags on eBay...well, I sell many antique items on eBay but I have been selling more vintage designer handbags lately. I usually can tell a fake a mile a way. Every Vintage Gucci I have ever sold has had a serial number. However, today while at an estate sale, I purchased a vintage Gucci Bag. Everything in me says it is a real bag but for the life of me I can't find the serial number. It has all the Hardware & it looks really well made. It has a gucci gold stamp inside on the leather BUT I can't find a serial number.
My question is this. Do ALL vintage Gucci bags have serial numbers, or are there ones that did not have serial numbers?
Please help!
Thanks
Funbags

Hi Funbags,

Did anyone ever get back to you about this?
I also have a Gucci bag that looks great and I bought it from a vintage shop in NYC and they said it was real but there is no serial number in it just a gucci gold stamp inside on the leather.
I would really appreciate you help.

Hi there, In my experience, the older bags do not always have a number. There are some that have the 2 digits. Sometimes, they are in a hard to find spot, not near the makers mark. I have seen them on an inside pocket on the wall of it that is towards the inside of the bag (if that makes any sense). Sometimes, if the interior is fabric, they have been worn off completely and can't be seen as they aren't embossed into the fabric like it would be on the leather tag. Where even if the gold color had worn off you would see the impression. I would search everywhere and also post the bag on the authenticate this thread.

As you can see it is stamped on the front of the purse, it's the right info just not on a metal plate. this is the only place it says Prada, it has two inside zipper pockets, and the hardware you see on the outside pockets you simply push the button through the hole and it locks.
