Enjoy your new handbags. I was tempted by the same Penrose bag.... so many beautiful colors and outside pockets too. But then I saw a slightly larger version, without the
outside pockets on ILD. I need that extra space.

I wonder why the Penrose satchels are so heavy. Is the leather very thick?

I'm glad you found a way to enjoy your new satchel. I love the Aubergine color.

Can you tell us more about the Penrose?
I was wondering why it was so heavy myself, and it does seem to have thick leather. On the website it says the leather is 2.0mm - 2.2mm thick. Honestly, I never paid attention to the leather or leather thickness of my bags, before this bag. It is a smooth leather and the bag is structured so the top can't be folded down like with the florentine satchel. But just like the other satchels the interior is smaller than the outside. The size of the bag is about the same as the mini florentine satchel, but the depth of the bag is smaller than some of the other satchels at 4.75".

The two pockets in the front and back are pretty narrow. You can fit your phone with a thin case, but it has to be placed vertically and it will be sticking out the pocket. I have iPhone 15 Pro for reference. If you have an older iPhone or an Android phone that folds, it might be able to completely fit in the pocket. But I actually don't recommend putting your phone in the pockets because it looks like the leather retains the shape of whatever you cram in there, unless you don't care about that. I plan to keep my Metrocard - which is my public transportation card the size and thickness of a credit card, in the front pocket and pepper spray in the back pocket.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. I didn't expect the bag to be structured or the leather
to be smooth. Not saying these are bad things, as I love Alto bags. Just surprised.
I expected it to be a softer leather, although the fact that it's thicker doesn't surprise me
and is an indicator of leather quality.

I don't think I ever saw (noticed) info on leather thickness on the Dooney site. I'll have
to go back and see what I can learn about many of the bags that I already own.
Hmmm, I don't see that info on the Dooney site.... where did you find it?

If the top doesn't fold over, how does the bag look/carry?
I'm guessing that over time, with use, the leather will soften a bit at the top.

Hello Everyone, it's been a while!

So this was an unexpected buy for me. A content creator I follow, listed that the Penrose satchel was on sale. She didn't link to the bag or say if it was Dooney or ILD, so I searched both sites. I was surprised to see that they were selling 2 different versions of the satchel, but I saw the Aubergine Penrose 30 and I just bought it. I can't resist a pretty purple, and I don't have any purple bags from Dooney. My only issue was I didn't know how much it weighted. Someone responded under the community post and said they had the bag and it weighted 3lbs 8oz, and I thought their scale might have been wrong because the bag has similar dimensions to the Florentine mini satchel and that's about 2lbs 6oz. I got the bag yesterday and I weighted it completely wrapped - so that's it stuffed and with the handle inside of it. It was 3lbs 0.75oz :oh: I said it was too heavy for me and I was planning on returning it, but last night I unwrapped and I put one of my thick cotton straps on it, and the bag felt light to me. I packed it with my essentials: wallet, keys, e-reader, large wristlet, and foldable headphones, and I walked around my house with it, and it still didn't feel heavy. I only feel the weight when I hold it by its handles or if I wear it on the crook of my arms and I hardly ever wear my bags like that. I don't know if it's the compactness of the bag or the type of the leather used, but even though the bag is heavy according to the scale, it feels light to me when I wear it crossbody, so I think I'm going to keep it. I'm also thinking about getting a smaller one as one. Maybe in the grey or the green, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Another buy for me was this chevron Bitsy Bag. I've been waiting for the yellow one to come down in price and it finally did on ILD.

You have to scroll down. There's a section called Design Details, after the Review section that has the information.

Thanks. I'll go back. I missed it when I looked earlier.
Wow, a wealth of info. Just the kinds of things I like to know.

I wonder if the info on older styles, of Florentine, for example,
have different details. I'll have to see.
Yes, they do. And some of them have a picture of the bag right before Design Details that you can click on certain details and it gives you information. Also, in that Explore the Materials section, Leather, Trim, Lining, Hardware are all clickable and they give you information as well.

So just an update on my Penrose 30 satchel. I actually was planning on returning the bag because I said to myself the bag being almost 4lbs empty was going to get me after awhile, but then I remembered I had a digital scale in the back of my closet. So I dusted it off (literally), put some fresh batteries in it, and I re-weighed the bag. It came in at 2.6lbs - it's 2.8lbs with the strap - which makes a lot more sense. That's why the bag felt lighter to me than it was because it actually is. 😅 I also weighed a couple other bags I had, that I knew the weights of just to make sure the scale was accurate, and it was. So this weighs the same as the mini florentine satchel, which makes sense since they do have similar dimensions. If I'm to use that as a reference, the smaller one probably is close in weight to the micro florentine satchel.

I have a Penrose 30 on order from ILD.... the one without the pockets.
It seems to be gone from the web site again. I'm looking forward to getting
the bag and seeing the leather.

It's very frustrating if the web site has no info or incorrect info on a handbag...
features, dimensions, or weight.
I often make decisions based on the dimensions of the handbag and also consider the weight. So many times the dimensions are very far from reality.

Sometimes reviewers will post the info after they get the bag. But I've seen some
reviews that cover a range of similar styles, or the reviews are several years old...
so I can't really be sure the person has the same handbag.

Same! I really wish Dooney was consistent with having the dimensions and weight of the bags listed on the website. It will save us a lot of headaches.

Me as well. I get frustrated when purchasing and the length, depth and height are not listed. I have the Florentine Gracie coming (zero size info online) and someone on PF said it is a large bag.

Also, info missing when shopping, I dislike all the pop-up stuff (i.e submit email, spin the wheel and consider a wallet with your order).

It bugs me! It is rather like being in a physical shop and the sales staff stands in front of you, blocking your view while you are looking at the mechandise. It slows down my purchase and seems a bit rude.

IMO, Dooney needs to make sure basic details are on all their merchandise and stop with some of the distracting marketing.

I agree. But they probably have statistics that show that these electronic pop-ups
increase sales, over a period of time. We may not buy that extra item at the time, but we later get an email, and check back at the site, and buy something.

Picked up this Saffiano Small Tassel Crossbody in Ivy. I have a Mini Gallery tote in Amazon Green from Coach Outlet, that I wanted to replace with something bigger, but not too big, and could be classy and casual and this fit the bill. This is my first Saffiano piece for myself. I think I'm going to get the Smoked Grey one as well.

Saw this on ILD the other day. And it was for a good price at $109. I actually bought it from the ILD eBay store because they give you free shipping. I don't think it fits me, and I was about to return it, but I'm thinking about giving it to my mother as a Christmas gift. I gave her a Saffiano double zip wristlet in Amber as a gift last year, and the year before I gave her a Saffiano large frame purse, so this year might as well give her the matching bag. If she doesn't like, I can always return it.

For the weight conscience, the bag weighs 2.4lbs fully stuffed.

If you find a handbag that you like and one that works for you, I think it makes
sense to buy it in multiple colors to coordinate with your outfits. Enjoy your new
Dooney.

My only advice is to carry the handbag a few times first, just to be sure.
I often rush to buy a second color, especially when there is a sale, only to later discover that in the real world that great handbag isn't quite as perfect as I thought it would be...
could be a strap issue, pockets inside, or even the zipper, as well as overall design
that annoys me.
