Oh good for you! Two perfect turandot. That's great. Yes navy is perfect. The lighter blue is a bit of a chameleon color that can pick up many different blues. Let me see if I have a photo of it with my Chanel jacket. Well not wearing it but here on the hanger. It would look lovely with a white silk blouse to pick up the white flowers as well.

Hunny we are twins on so many. Let me see if I can dig up some pics for frou frou. How exciting she has just snagged another turandot.

This thread is moving so fast, I think I missed a Napoleon discussion. Beekmanhill - is this the navy or black border? I like it. I searched for the right Napoleon (there are a lot of CWS I don't like at all!) and finally found it. For me it's the gray bordered one. Gray is my new obsession! And the red and the teal waistcoats are great. Here's the only picture I can find on my laptop:

Oh, oh, Momasaurus! This gray is lovely and I've never seen it before. But in my quest for jacquards, I finally found my own Grail Napoleon! It's the same on as on this website: http://63gramos.blogspot.com/2011/01/napoleon-philippe-ledoux-1963.html
Although the border looks white, it's actually a pale beige -- not what I thought I'd end up with, but really pretty and good for focusing on the Napoleon portraits. It shows up better with a darker colored top, I think. (The left photo is in sunlight and the right is not)

I'm so happy to have found this site, too -- I didn't know it existed until last week when someone mentioned it on SOTD. I start out my very own year as Scarf Mistress with Grails, so I do hope some of the members of this thread will join us. I'm especially interested in the Hunt, and whether there might be some regrets over paying too much once the scarf is in hand and the blood has cooled. I know I love my grails more when they're a bargain!

Reds look so lovely on you dear! And TURANDOT!! One of the grailiest of grails for me [although I would go for the blue/orange for myself...or maybe the deep purple one].
BJS Thank you so much , and let's hope you find your Turandot very soon !

!

ABQ2ATL Love that colouration of Napoleon and like you I also love Birkinmary's wonderful site of scarf portraits . It seems to be, along with Moma's grey, a really wearable colour way too .THat claret and olive green of the coats is wonderful.
I'm with you on the thrill of finding a grail for a good price and also it's a great idea to share stories of the grail which one went all out to acquire only to find it isn't all one hoped. I have a few of those !

MYH Love to see your pics too!
I'm keeping fingers crossed that the blue will be OK.

Oh wow! This is beautiful tied ABQ. I don't think I have ever seen it tied.

The hunt: I developed my grails list by saving photos from sotd on my iPad. If I find myself coming back multiple times over several months to a scarf it becomes a Grail and I start hunting. I will admit that some make it to the list more quickly than others. Some are not scarves that are incredibly popular but that I love. I'll also admit that I added a few of the popular ones thinking that others love them and there must be something to it. And they lived up to the hype in person. Then I stalked eBay and the other sites. I actually have a written prioritized list although with grails to some extent you have to take them in the order they appear to you.

Regrets: there have been none based on price. I paid over retail for Turandot. ExLeK, Cest la fete, and mythiques Phoenix. All exceeded my expectations in person. The others have been below retail. My last 69-70 was only $138. Perhaps there is slightly more joy in getting it inexpensively. My only regret is a scarf that looked beautiful in another colorway, but in my colvert doesn't quite sparkle. I paid below retail and it might be rehomed some day.

Ooooooh I love this on the darker blouse. This is a CW I've never noticed. I think you rock it. Congrats!

AGREED! I would happily pay $330 [10% markup] for a great condition C'est La Fete. But $450-$500?!?!?! NO WAY

$330? You must be smoking something, BJS! I'd love to find a C'est la Fete for less than $450, including when it first came out in 2012 -- it just couldn't be found in stores. Maybe because it was in the men's line? I don't know -- there was a lot of excitement when it was spotted on the runway and the search took off from there. It's only a 70cm, so I'd hope to see it come down to a realistic vintage silk price.
Mine is graphite and I love it but I've admired the paler versions as well. I like it in combinations as a commentary...here with S/S 69 F/W 70 pondering the transient nature of fashion:

What a cool mix!!

You are right that my idea is mostly a pipe dream. I still hold out some hope though. One of our dear TPFers posted a few months ago that she bought a CLF from the Copenhagen airport boutique...it must have just gotten forgotten about and she discovered it. So it IS possible to pay retail [which is only $300 in current prices for a 70]. I have also seen some dip-dye versions on the Bay for selling around retail price as well but those are the only versions I'm not crazy about as the design gets kind of lost IMO. Once I get some of my other grails out of the way, I may in fact end up paying over retail for CLF because it is one I just have to have...but I will search and search to get the best deal until I can't take it anymore....patience is not my strongest point but luckily I can be patient in this area...it usually has served me well in terms of getting good deals.

Interesting that it went for a premium from the beginning. I didn't know that. This is one that complexly exceeded my expectations. I think I paid 450 or so for mine a few months ago.

Not a Grail, since I only have the one Impossible Dream left, but this is definitely a high ranking "eventual" thanks to Lanit and Arabesques. My elderly father finds it easier to send money so this is my Christmas present from him. The Boy helped me choose between this or Les Ailes. He liked this the best and the remaining Les Ailes cws added nothing new to my collection (thanks to my beautiful new Manufacure de Boucleries in particular! [emoji6]).

So here she is!:

An excellent choice!!!! I know you have been considering this one for a while. I think it's a great choice. Can't wait for modeling photos. Congratulations!

Oh my! My first H Carre was an AF and I'm still drawn to her designs. I got myself a reissue Jardins d'Hiver for Christmas, and I finally found my HG brown/red Aux Pays des Epices!

And the Noir/violine/vert absinthe, too! (Interesting how when you find one, another just shows up) I like how you can tie it to show or hide the chili border.
