YIPPEE! My First Hermes, My Journey

So let’s do lunch. We decided to do a late lunch, the time frame between a true lunch and supper (or dinner), something I call Spunch, around 3 PM. I quickly put on the Twillies and what happens? I snag one with a ring. My hub thinks they are a waste but what do men know? He thinks they are totally impractical for normal use and now the first thing I do on the first day is snag one.

So we are sitting in a chain restaurant, nothing fancy, just family food. I always place my bag on a chair or hang it from a chair. As my Hubby is waiting for the food, he looks at her, and says “Hmm, I’m getting use to the bling. It’s OK”. Who knew? I’m used to it too already. This is all new to me.

So the next time I had the purse out I went to touch the handle and my hand slid against the Twilly and, barely touching it with a bracelet, another snag.

Later that night, my hub says he’s already used to the twilly being on there, just leave them. A couple of days later its off to lunch again, another Spunch in Nordstroms. Not a bad place for lunch. Now I am used to this all. That was fast.

This is what I had for Spunch, Chinese Chicken Salad. It was delicious.

I have taken pictures of food I cooked but my love in photography is wildlife like here https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/please-post-your-nature-and-wildlife-pictures-here.978087/ Food just sits there, hopefully, and doesn't move. Birds move, a lot. But if my food starts moving, I'm out of there.

OK, I’m used to the bag. I LOVE the bag. It’s perfect for me.


Do you remove your rings when you put the Twillies on your bag handles?

And how often do these Twillies need to be dry cleaned?

Haha my husband has been like "what's with the scarf" but luckily I haven't snagged a twilly yet - my heart would break! I'm so sorry for your snags!!

Now I have a question and its about rain. This website gives dire warnings about clemence leather and water basically saying terrible blisters can happen, dry immediately. Another website says the same thing - water can lead to blisters. Third website and it gives the same warning. Here is the raincoat that came with the bag

I think there are two plastic bags in there. They are short and do NOT cover the handles. The bag weighs 4.8 oz. It looks like this. Its too short!

And here it is on the floor

The handles are exposed! Bad. If I pull them to cover the handles, its too short.

Now lets go back to this picture

Look at that black rectangle at 7PM It says Urban Disguise 70 Pro. That is the rain protection pouch, a pouch that comes with every Think Tank Camera Bag (and is detachable). It weighs 3.1 oz but is more bulky than the Hermes Plastic.

We DO get major thunderstorms and I CAN be caught out going from building to car in a huge downpour. That rain protection could protect, and I have 100% confidence in it, $20K in Camera Equipment in a big bag. So, this is how it looks

It sort of looks like a garbage bag but its actually fully enclosed, serious rain protection and I added Velcro to the bottom to completely seal from gusts of rain blowing upward from the bottom.

So ladies, what do you think? I CAN be caught in serious thunderstorms and would need to carry something. I also have to believe the warning about Clemence Leather. The real rain protection weighs 65% of the Hermes plastic but is a bit bulkier. I have 100% belief the bulkier protections gives full protection from the rain but not so sure about the Hermes raincoat, which is heavier but does not cover the handles or bottom, depending if the handles are covered.

Opinions? Is the Urban Design raincoat Overkill? Or am I right to be cautious?

That looks very nice and yes stylish - But wish it were waterproof.

How much rain was coming down when you have used it covering your bag?

Did any rainwater get on your bag? Do you think if caught in a downpour it would keep your bag completely dry?

@hers4eva Perhaps you want to read this thread. Those 3 sites have provided the wrong info and this has been frequently asked on the forum. I personally find Clemence to be very hardy, be it snow or rain. Just give it a wipe down when you get a chance to and let it air dry.

Also, this thread which you have posted question about Clemence and rain has many members sharing their experience with Clemence in the rain. In fact a member right above your post shared that their Clemence bag turned out fine.

@docride gives good advise on caring for Clemence leather here.

So wallets. I mentioned I wanted a new wallet. I dislike the long wallets. They take too much space. I looked online at some of the Hermes wallets and some were just weird, like the Passant. To me, that was WAY to complicated to deal with. I like simple and functional, quickly open it and done. Envelope wallets? I have no idea what those are. I did see a pink Compact Bearn that was online for about a week and disappeared. That looked reasonable in size. At this point I had about given up on the Hermes wallets and was willing to settle for a Vuitton compact wallet. From many reviews on line, it seems their quality was respected.

In the store I saw a Compact Bearn and the leather just seemed "thin"? I'm not sure how to describe it but I didn't like it. So I was ready to leave but there was a Compact Constance up in the display. The very nice sales lady went to retrieve the colors.

I LOVE RED. Well this worked out. It was the PERFECT size and had a zipper for the coins and closes fine. I LOVE IT!!! OK, I could have bought a lifetime supply of Vuitton wallets for the cost of this but I figure this will last my lifetime.

For me, its the perfect size. The only complaint I might have is the billfold area is not a true billfold in that the cash has to be folded making it thicker. But since I know longer have any cash, it doesn't really matter

One good thing is the slot on the back side is good for a temporary place to store receipts. So together, its red and black. The wallet is easy to see when in the bag and I like that.

My day was not over, now I need to put it all together and make sure it all fits. The journey continues ...

So this journey continues. I still need a pouch get my stuff organized. I see a Tohubohu but these are way to big, too long. So I leave the Hermes store with my head spinning and into the RAIN . But other designer stores are all around me. So a quick stop into the Vuitton store yields this. I've never had my keys in any kind of pouch, just on a key ring but I figure why not? I know this is not Hermes but the story continues, its all the same day:

I love the dark red interior and red button. It works great although one of my car key fobs really does not fit and there is no way the bigger key fob fits. Its bigger than the case! Why don't they make key cases to accommodate car key fobs? Its not 1985 anymore But it works fine for the plain metals keys.

So now its back out of the city, out of the maze of parking, back into the rain and traffic, and get home, only to realize - no pouch. I had done some research and there are MANY good reviews of the Vuitton Mini Pouchette and I was just in a store. Vuitton stores grow on trees. My hub calls one at a mall and they say they have one. Back to the car, in the rain, in rush hour traffic, another long, long drive only to get to the mall and ... its in a color I hate and they only one they had. No problem, they sell them online. Right? Wrong. They are out of stock online.

Calling the company the next day I find out they will be out of stock, online, until the factory catches up on backorders because its too popular. I can understand why. Considering the prices in the Hermes store, its like they give these away, which is silly because its still fairly expensive. SO its BACK into the car, in the rain, for another long drive. Yes, they do have a Pochette, looks like the last one. A quick purchase and BACK driving in the rain for another long ride. I owe Hub big time

And to get perspective on size ...

I can totally understand why the mini Pouchette is so popular. Its a perfect small size. Now to put everything together. So what's in the bag? This:

From 12:00 and clockwise, Key pouch, wallet, Sunglasses, iPhone, raincoat for the bag (I'll come back to that subject), mini Pouchette and key that won't fit on the keychain. And this is it all together.

Now to try this all out in real life ... Let's go out.

We are SLG sisters on the Mini Pochette, mine is the Trunks and Bags Damier Ebene version. I use it in my bag almost daily, it is so useful for holding keys, tissues, hair elastics, bandaids and lip balm. Congratulations on all of your SLGs and lovely Bolide!
