Would you wear your Love bracelets to Europe?

Love bracelets should be fine although personally I cover mine up in some areas. They can’t steal a Love off your wrist but wearing something well known might make you a target.
My Italian friend said her mom’s Rolex was stealthily removed off her wrist when she was in Naples. I’ve heard dozens of stories like this. My parents were pickpocketed in the Paris metro and hotel cleaning staff stole out of their rooms during one of our vacations. My aunts were pickpocketed clean of their jewels in Barcelona (but to be fair, I could 100% imagine them being absentminded tourists walking around in the Rambla with 3 carat e-rings and diamond necklaces). None of these things have happened to me but I’d like to think I am more cautious when in a new place.

It happens to people all the time all over the world, but it’s not something I would obsess over. If you’re willing to be very careful with your stuff (and insure it!) then go ahead and wear it. If you’d feel more free leaving it at home, that works too.

I have a similar story for Paris, hotel/serviced apt staff stole Chanel and LV bags out of our families' rooms and pickpockets tried to grab my grandmother's purse on the metro. This was in the late 2000s long before the pandemic/recent hard times. That said, I've travelled around Italy since with no issues and both my gf and I were wearing our Cartier stacks. As others have pointed out, every city has its risks and you've just got to stay vigilant and cover up if you're in the more crowded, touristy or off-the-beaten-track areas.

1) Insure your jewelry and stop thinking about it too much. Europe is probably safer to wear your items than the US.
2) Buy a moving security camera for using in your hotel rooms. It costs about 50 USD and weights about half a pound. Expensive items are usually stolen from the hotel rooms by housekeeping, not professional robbers. This person must be totally crazy to steal your items in front of a camera, but even if they do - you will have a proof.
3) You can also purchase a travel safe.Weights about 4 pounds, is meant for guns, but works perfectly for the jewelry as well. This lifehack is mostly for Airbnbs, many of them don’t have a safe.

I just got back from Europe (Paris, Venice and Rome) and felt completely safe wearing my jewelry (which is mostly Cartier). And I wore sleeveless shirts the entire trip because it was so hot. We walked everywhere and took lots of cabs, and not once did I feel awkward or unsafe. Going through security at the airport is always fun, because my LOVE bangle always goes off, so I always have to get inspected by a female officer, but it's something I'm used to since wearing my bangle.

I wish I had read this sooner. I had my Rolex stolen from a very well-known, prestigious hotel in Vegas earlier this month

But as for Europe, it depends where you go. I encountered so many pickpockets when I was in France. Most of them are non-confrontational. They will only try to rob you without being noticed. They will find a way into your bags and even pockets, but a Love bracelet is pretty safe :amuse:

I'm in Vegas a few times a year and often I feel unsafe walking around. Just a feeling I know. However, I wouldn't have expected THAT to happen in a nice hotel.
I guess I could see that. I walk the strip only in the morning 9-11 AM. I walked around in the evening time in April of this year, and it was shadier than usual. I think my NYC/NJ RBF must act as a natural defense :angel:

Wow, which Vegas hotel? I travel there at least once a year. Never had issues with the nicer hotels and I take my Rolex. I put it in the safe during the day too.
We used to go to Vegas once every couple of months and nothing ever went missing, so this incident was very alarming for me too.

I won’t disclose which hotel this was because there is an active investigation atm. But I will say that after this happened, I started asking around and I found out that theft isn’t a rare occurrence in Vegas hotels and is not limited to one particular hotel.

We stay in Aria Skysuites a few times a year and I always use the safe as DH loves housekeeping lol
Now I’m worried!
How does housekeeping get in the safe?!
I have a dear friend who was with the International Monetary Fund, who told me that their security advised never to use hotel safes. There are ways staff can open a locked safe (for instance if a guest forgets the code), so you are relying on the integrity of the staff.

I realize there’s some staff that can, but not housekeeping. Scary!
