Vegas has recently changed quite a bit, and not in a positive way.

We used to go to Vegas once every couple of months and nothing ever went missing, so this incident was very alarming for me too.
I won’t disclose which hotel this was because there is an active investigation atm. But I will say that after this happened, I started asking around and I found out that theft isn’t a rare occurrence in Vegas hotels and is not limited to one particular hotel.
It definitely sounds like an inside job are my thoughts.I have a dear friend who was with the International Monetary Fund, who told me that their security advised never to use hotel safes. There are ways staff can open a locked safe (for instance if a guest forgets the code), so you are relying on the integrity of the staff.
I always feel my jewelry is safest on me or in my home safe which is super heavy and huge.We stay in Aria Skysuites a few times a year and I always use the safe as DH loves housekeeping lol
Now I’m worried!
How does housekeeping get in the safe?!
I haven’t been robbed at a hotel (knocking hard on wood!!!) but my sweet hubby loves housekeeping and I’d happily prefer to go for a few days and ask for clean towels rather then have them come in.I’m curious about those who have had items stolen from your hotel rooms, did you have the do not disturb sign or light on for your room? That’s the first thing I do when I check in anywhere and I also tell them at the front desk when checking in as well. Of course, I will never truly know if they respect it when I’m not in the room. A clean room is never more important to me than strangers in my private space with potentially expensive items around.
I had no issues in Venice. Will go to Venice this week and I'm unsure what to do??? So many of my relatives and friends have been robbed there. It's Italy nonetheless ... but it's so beautiful.
This is exactly why I have not had housekeeping in a hotel room of mine since I had as little as a hair tie stolen from my room back in 2016. I am very OCD and I know EXACTLY where I place all of my things and my hair tie always sits right next to my hair brush and I come back to a clean room and my hair tie is gone. Call me crazy or paranoid idc but if someone steals as little as a hair tie, what else would they take from you??? Ever since then, the DND sign goes on my door as soon as I check in. I call for towels, toilet paper, etc. We’re not dirty people, we clean up after ourselves and set any trash we have outside our door for them to come and grab. We will be in Vegas in about 20 days and will be around the pool a lot which means I can wear my Cartier pieces but not my VCA pieces so I plan to put any expensive items including bags into my large locked checked luggage that has a TSA lock on it so unless someone plans on ignoring my DND sign, breaking into my room, and walking out rolling around my large wheeled luggage in their housekeeping uniform that’s the only way they’re going to take my things. I don’t trust anyone sorry not sorry.I haven’t been robbed at a hotel (knocking hard on wood!!!) but my sweet hubby loves housekeeping and I’d happily prefer to go for a few days and ask for clean towels rather then have them come in.
My good friends were traveling, stayed at a really nice resort in Mexico and housekeeping took everything. The resort didn’t really care, barely pretended to, and they were not insured. Ironically my friend is an insurance agent and said it’s not worth it to insure…
Also ironically they’re neighbors and we were robbed at home, fully insured, and have *almost* replaced everything.
So if a safe isn’t safe, where do I store my things safely when traveling?
Thieves suck!!!!!
When I travel, I tend to wear the jewelry that I bring all the time. I bring a key lock for my suitcase just to use at the hotel, where I’ll lock up my Goyard Artois, which I use as a travel bag, and any expensive purchases. I do use the safe for electronics and occasionally our watches if we’re going swimming, but the watches are insured and are replaceable if they were stolen. So if a safe isn’t safe, where do I store my things safely when traveling?
Thieves suck!!!!!
Of course we do... plus most of the famous designer houses are of European origin (Italy, France), so I don't really understand the concern...I was about to say that our European members wear theirs!
I was warned about pickpockets and theft and never had any issue traveling around Europe, I wore nice bags/jewelry.
Also, when in doubt, wear long sleeves.Of course we do... plus most of the famous designer houses are of European origin (Italy, France), so I don't really understand the concern...![]()
However, as others mentioned, when passing some suspicious streets, some extra caution is always a good idea.
