Would you wear your Love bracelets to Europe?

I don't wear any of my jewelry not even wedding ring. I noticed most European's don't carry there designers bags and don't seem to wear a lot of designer jewelry also. As I was traveling you could tell the tourist's from the locals as all the tourists had there designer bags and jewelry. Just spent 3 weeks traveling Europe. My advice if you wear your bracelets cover them up and be aware of who's around you.

This is just not true - like every other continent, Europe is not homogeneous. It totally depends.
I would be careful in every place on earth at tourist spots or at places, I could not really assess - what happens faster than one would think - therefore I don't bring flashy things to vacations in general because I don't want to think too much about it.

My husband always travels with a Rolex watch and I have my Love bracelet (among other every day jewelry) 24/7. We’re big travelers- and have done Spain and Italy. We wore our watches/jewelry out in Spain and Italy without hesitation and as a matter of fact always felt we were dressed down compared to the locals!
However, when traveling to Puerto Rico more recently, I did take these wrist bands with us. They covered his watch and my bracelet perfectly. We wore them when in more crowded areas and didn’t want to bring attention to ourselves.

Gosh what happened in Madrid?

Sry too traumatic for me to go into details ... but I avoid traveling to Spain ever since. Still had to travel to Barcelona last year, though, and a handbag of one of my fellows was stolen. I do know so many people who have been robbed in Italy, too.

Yes, nowhere is 100 % safe - have heard of a stolen watch even in Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse  - but again avoid Italy and Spain.

I’m sorry - shouldn’t have asked! I hope you can process the trauma with time :hugs:

Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful responses! So sorry to hear of the negative and traumatic experiences. <<hugs>> Thank you for opening up and sharing.

I forgot to mention that I will be traveling with my husband and two kids (ages 10 and 8). The kids have special needs and are therefore a bit tougher to manage in public settings.

Does this make a difference in making us more or less of a target? Either way, it sounds like maybe it’s better to be safe than sorry though I would definitely feel naked without my bracelets! We will have a couple of days on our own but will also mostly be traveling with a tour group for the day to see the major sites.

I want to remain low-key when I travel. Going to an embassy, morgue, or police station to report an unfortunate event is definitely not on my list when vacationing. I don't want thugs and thieves targeting me and my companions during a fun trip. That said, I refrain from using expensive and eye-catching items when I travel, especially when I am not familiar with that place. But that is just me. Do whatever you choose to do. But take care.

Some of these comments are hilarious. Europe on average is safer in large cities than in the USA large cities. I’m from the states, luckily moved to Europe 15 years ago and have never been robbed or hurt in anyway. Can’t say the same about the US. I wouldn’t feel safe wearing my jewellery there!
I agree with this

I wore my Love bracelet, Tiffany's DBTY, Trinity ring and eternity wedding ring to Rome when we were there last week. I did not for a moment feel unsafe, even when we rode the Metro or public bus to and from our hotel.
When we were in Barcelona 4 years ago, the pickpockets were all out. We sat at La Rambla and observed tourists getting their bags unzipped or watches snatched, even wallets lifted from their pockets (we were more aware as my husband got his Microsoft card case with 100Euros stolen at the metro).
The one thing we do not wear on our travels are our watches (mine a Rolex and his an IWC).
Otherwise, I do not think there is anything wrong with wearing your jewelry when holidaying in Europe.

I had no issues wearing Tiffany jewelry in Italy and Barcelona, as well as a small LV bag (DE Eva) in Barcelona. This was back in 2018 but I felt completely safe traveling there with my husband. When we ventured out for day trips (Rome, Cinque Terre, Pompeii, etc.) I did wear a more understated bag. But I wore my Eva clutch/crossbody everywhere in Barcelona.
