Would you bring a high end bag to college classes?

No, I didn't wear my designer bags to college, they would have been out of place in my school anyways. Very small, very intellectual. IMO college brings together a bunch of people from different backgrounds, I mean there were people whose families probably made in a month what some of the bags you're talking about cost. Personally I think designer bags are fine for graduate programs like an MBA or law but not college. There is no reason to rub in how well off you are when the person next to you is totally on loans and scholarship and has to worry about their family and their finances. Its a place where people should just be who they are and designer bags sort of set up little "groupings" - but then I didn't go to some monster state school - it all sounds very "Clueless" to me.

I'm going through the same dilemna now. I work full-time, but I'm going to start going to school part-time in the fall. I'm looking for a bag that's professional enough to take to work, yet comfortable and roomy enough to take straight to class after work.

I'm considering a higher-end bag not for the status, but because it can fit both roles as work bag and book bag, AND is well-made enough to hold up through regular use. If it looks great, then that's an added bonus! I'm afraid cheaper bags won't look professional enough for the office (and when I have to go on business trips, I'm hoping to take the same bag as well) and won't last as long either.

When I was in college I wasn't the "designer obsessed girl" I am now, so I used bacpacks, nice ones like diesel, north face, or abercrombie and they were perfect. I can't imagine bringing one of my Chanel totes to class, it would garner too much unwanted attention. I wouldn't want College to be like high school.

Going by cost per use I think it's fine, as long as you're not loading 40lbs. worth of textbooks into it, that's just unnecessary wear and tear. It's your demeanor that makes you snobby and over-the-top, not your bag.

i don't have problem bringing designer bag as my school bag, i usee my vavin gm, broadway, or sometimes my abbesse. coz its functional and fit my things. and thats the only place i could use all my bag, i don't work so i bring them to school:okay:

i went to a private college in new york with many wealthy students. i was also in the greek system, which has an even more concentrated amount of rich, fashion conscious girls. i love fashion myself, so i always appreciate a great outfit, and, of course, a fabulous designer handbag of which there were many. honestly, i don't remember any of the totes the girls were carrying to class. i can't even recall what i carried my books in. i graduated about two years ago, and all i can remember is trying not to fall asleep during lectures.

i think many of us over-think how much others are actually paying attention to the things we wear and the bags we carry. most people are too preoccupied with worrying about themselves to make assessments on others' sartorial choices for the one to two hours of class where we're all sitting down and looking ahead in one direction anyways.

that being said, wear what you like. no one can stop you. personally, i would hesitate to carry my designer handbags to class for fear possibly ruining them. i tend to treat my book bags roughly. however, if your primary goal is to show off, it might be fruitless considering most people are too tired and immersed in their own lives to even take much notice when a stranger walks into the lecture hall. i agree that there's a time and a place. i was and am more apt to admire a beautiful handbag on a well-dressed girl when i was doing something more leisurely like walking around in the mall or having drinks at a bar. class can be many things, but leisurely is not one of them.

I usually had my books stuffed in an LLBean backpack or Kate Spade messenger. Sometimes I carried a Coach to class also, but that was usually stuffed with my planner, wallet, etc...I never brought a bag to "show off"

I think it is bag overload to be carrying more than one, so unless it fits in your school bag/backpack then I think its extraneous and unnecessary. If you need to think that hard about what bag and how to wear it to class, I think you class isn't hard enough!

Might I suggest a Rebecca Minkoff tote? I bought mine for just this purpose!

Also, Cole Haan makes some great large totes that are work-appropriate... or a Mulberry.

My sister used to bring my LVs before when she was in High School. But then again, it's not for everyday use. It's for special ocassion such as Open Day where they get to school with their casual clothes.

For me....I feel comfortable using a designer purse only if its low key and functional....

But I dont see a a big problem with it...its just a slight attention getter at the most but whats the big deal in that really......
