Would you bring a high end bag to college classes?

I only carry a designer bag if its functional and big enough to carry my textbooks. I've used my horsebit to carry my textbooks but no one noticed (which is fine with me)!!!

i am a fashion merch major so you would think i would bring my nice bags to classes so people would actually appreciate them, but honestly i barely ever bring my bags. i usually just bring a cute marc jacobs cotton tote to put my books in and my juicy clutch with my phone, key, id, whatever. i did bring a handbag around some days, but i hate carrying a handbag with a tote full of books! i want my bag to be the main event, not something slung under my arm while i carry around a different bag full of books. my purses usually get use on the weekends.

i used to carry a huge burberry tote bag that held everything that i needed for college. it was flashy and now that i think about it, maybe i shouldn't have done that. that bag took a beating after all the years of textbook lugging. it still holds up so i am pretty happy. but i dont' think college students should worry about what bag other ppl carry. i carried the burberry tote bag because it was one of the biggest bag i own and fits EVERYTHING. i would never carry a bookbag and a purse, that looks silly to me.

When I was in college I was carring my LV petit bucket. I took it to class b/c I took my purse everywhere! Still do! That was back before they were faked so much, though, & everyone knew it was the real thing. That wasn't the point, of course, it was just b/c I'd spent $510 minus an employee discount (tells you how long ago that was!) on a purse & I was NOT going to let it get stolen out of my car! I did have a professor compliment me on it, though! :graucho:

For me it isn't about competition or if people notice. I carry them for ME. I happen to like nice expensive bags, and yes carry them everywhere. And when i was in college I carried them there too.

I don't think the paddington is very functional, but I'm not against carrying designer bag to uni...I used to take always my gucci messenger bag or a big balenciaga bag that was totally unrecognizable...

I always carry either a balenciaga or a tano and quite frankly, no one in my department cares enough about fashion to be able to tell them from a $12 bag from Wal-Mart, which is fine with me:)

i think the reason it would have made me uncomfortable when i was in ug is because if an ordinary college student is carrying around an $1,000 bag, generally her parents bought it for her... and it seems kind of show-offy to basically tell your classmates how rich your parents are... i think, fair or not, people will label you as spoiled.

it's somewhat different in law school, because about half the students worked before coming. there was one girl last year who carried her balenciaga tote, which amazingly held all that she needed.

i just bought a rebecca minkoff tote for next year :smile1:

While I understand what you're saying, I personally never let that bother me. I figured then (and really to this day) that once people get to know me, they'll realize that I am a nice person and that I am not a snob. If they don't want to know me or think Im a show off or snobby b/c of the bag I have or something, they probably aren't people I want to be friends with.

Mine may not be a popular opinion but I think life is too short to worry about things like that. If you're comfortable carrying it, rock it like it's nobodys business.
