Well I have a substantial collection and I didn't pay thousands on each one. I agree you should buy quality if you are going to spend the money at all, but somethings are excessive in my opinion. Dooney makes great bags, sturdy, thick heavy leather, great linings and a nice selection of style and color, and only cost a few hundred. Great product but they aren't considered premium because of who made it(?) I would rather pay $300, for a bag that I don't have to worry about than a $1600 LV that gets caught in the rain and now is ruined. So I think people spend thousands because either they just like it, their income allows or they just want to say they spent it. I do not agree with folks spending money they don't have just to make people think they can.

I don't.

I have five bags -- three Coach (2 vintage, 1 modern), one caviar Chanel and one LV. Total cost? $1600 ... and they were all purchased this year except the modern Coach. Yes, they're all real and in pristine condition. The Coach bags were purchased on eBay and the Chanel and LV bags were purchased on Malleries. One of the vintage Coach bags is also caviar leather, made in Italy and cost a whole $100. When I go out, especially with the Chanel, I try my best to make it as unnoticeable as possible. It doesn't have the CC logo, only CHANEL imprinted on the bottom on on side in the same color as the leather so it doesn't stand out. I always keep that side turned so others can't see. I don't WANT people knowing I'm carrying a Chanel. I carry it for me because it helps lighten the deep depression I've suffered the past few years.

With that, I'm done bag shopping. I have all I need/want and no interest in even looking at bags anymore.

Out of my collection of fifteen, only three are over $1K. Two of them were amazing deals even at their high price points. (Hermes Kelly and YSL Cabas Chyc) both under $2K each. And my Celine Phantom, which is my only full priced brand new bag, and it was my HG. I just love bags! 😍

I know! Wonderful bags. Thanks for letting me know the name of hers. I keep hoping she'll tire of it & offer it to me since she's had it for 16 years, but she never does :)

If you have the money to do so, no matter how you came up with that money or how long it took you to come up with it, you buy it because you want to. You only live once. And it doesn't mean you don't volunteer, don't regularly donate to your favorite charities, or don't do your share of helping the world's problems like the environment, the homeless and hunger problems. Many of us do that, too! I hear this often, people asking why people buy expensive luxury goods... Those asking usually assume that people that buy expensive goods are foregoing the alternative of doing something better with our money. They should stop to consider that we probably already have.
Life can be simple. Do good for the world, do good for yourself. Live and be merry. :))
