Quality over quantity. But I got all my designer bags on sale (my justification) lol.the only designer bag I bought at full price was chanel. Every other bag was bought on sale. Why pay full price when u can actually buy on sale. Never bought preloved .maybe in d future though.

if you have the money to do so, no matter how you came up with that money or how long it took you to come up with it, you buy it because you want to. You only live once. And it doesn't mean you don't volunteer, don't regularly donate to your favorite charities, or don't do your share of helping the world's problems like the environment, the homeless and hunger problems. Many of us do that, too! I hear this often, people asking why people buy expensive luxury goods... Those asking usually assume that people that buy expensive goods are foregoing the alternative of doing something better with our money. They should stop to consider that we probably already have.
Life can be simple. Do good for the world, do good for yourself. Live and be merry. :))

"A poor man can't afford to buy cheap", as my dad said. And it's so true;I don't buy bags that cost thousands, but compared to my income, I do spend alot on bags, clothes, shoes and SLG. When I buy quality, it holds its value better than cheap things. That means I can sell the items for a good price if I get bored and spend the money I make on something new.
I also never pay full price, I can stalk a bag for years if necessary to get the price I'm ready to pay and will turn every rock to find what I want. I've made a nice profit selling things I've bought for a discount or preloved since I take care of my things.

Exactly;) There is a lot of truth to this comment. Because with every one luxury bag purchase that's kept for a very long time, handed down, or resold, there are probably 30 or more inexpensive fashion bags made of very inferior materials that were not bought, and don't end up in landfills. That's why I appreciate that there's a huge resale market that exists. People are selling even the oldest and poorest condition luxury bags, which is great because they are promoting reusing and reusing again and again:)

Excellent point about the resale market. So many good positives about it. :-)

I buy it because I appreciate the craftsmanship, it lasts forever, I don't get tired of it... But mainly because

I like it. Enough Said. It gives me a sense of empowerment, freedom, and independence buying something expensive and with my own money.

If I'm honest, luxury bags still aren't that compatible with my lifestyle. I work in a company where even our highest-ranking, rich-by-anyone's-standards don't have flashy cars or designer clothes (think a conservative field like finance). I haven't always been in a position to afford better bags, so I've always carried non-designer bags.

And then I realized I was paying a price. I had this bag I really loved, and I carried it for a few years, but it's past the point where I can really still wear it. I wish I had invested in something I loved just as much that I could still be carrying today.

So I have been slowly phasing designer bags into my collection. None of them have any obvious logos (for example, I have an LV Capucines and an Hermes Halzan), but they're all bags I love that I'll still be carrying in a couple of decades. That saves time and hopefully money over the long run.

Also, if I build my collection well, I'll never be in a position of having to scramble to replace a bag and ending up with something I don't love simply because I had to buy SOMETHING. Confidence in my wardrobe is a big motivator as well.

I like bags to match my outfits, like high quality bags and give them away when tired of them. I only buy what I can afford. I have bought several new bags on eBay at half off.
Mainly I have a lot of clothes which never wear out.

Because I save my money. I don't drive an expensive car, go out to fancy dinners, live in a big apartment, get professional manicures, or buy an overpriced drink at Starbucks every morning. Overall, my lifestyle is very frugal, and my one indulgence is my wardrobe. Everybody has something they spend money on. My father probably spends more in a year on his RC airplanes and helicopters then I do on my wardrobe, and nobody says anything to him about his expensive hobby. The only difference is when you have a designer bag or pair of shoes, people accuse you of "flashing your money", and think it's okay to be rude about it.

For some reason people don't like it when others spend a lot of money of non-essential items; things that you cannot live without. A house? Fine! But a pricey bag? Nope!
You can't carry a house with you all day so I guess that's why they think it is rude when people carry expensive bags. :P
As long as whatever you buy makes you happy then why not..? :)

Just speaking for myself and counting in pounds not dollars, from experience and measuring £1 for £1 for the life of any bag:

I X £1K bag from G/C/BV etc lasts approx 20-30 years = max £50 per annum or £1000 per 20 years
Plus I'm happy because I bought exactly what I wanted (although my bags tend to more like 1.5K so make that max £75)

1 X £60-150 high-street bag lasts approx 3-4 months = min £120 per annum or 3600 per 20 years
Plus I'm POd because I'm carrying 'copies' of the bag I really want

Hope my maths is correct :shame:

The question I need to ask myself if I have so many bags that last a 'lifetime' is how many lives do think I'm living? ;)

The question we should be asking bag makers is why do we have to spend more and more money on bags to obtain the same quality? :pout:

Never mind the high-street which provides fashionable but 'throwaway' products. The 'normal' bags that now cost £200-350 (which is a fair amount anyway!) seem to have gone down hill quality wise if you check out vintage bags of the same ilk. Even with premium designer bags we are having to pay more to get a quality. Check out the premium designers of 20-30 years ago, quality (materials and workmanship) like that does not even exist any more not even at H.

If you want value for money and longevity buy vintage
I love high quality vintage, plus it is great recycling.
