I love buying expensive bags, it gives me a special kind of happiness and satisfaction. A nice bag adds up to your stylish apparels and gives you a stunning over all look and boosts up the confidence to a different level.

If you have the money to do so, no matter how you came up with that money or how long it took you to come up with it, you buy it because you want to. You only live once. And it doesn't mean you don't volunteer, don't regularly donate to your favorite charities, or don't do your share of helping the world's problems like the environment, the homeless and hunger problems. Many of us do that, too! I hear this often, people asking why people buy expensive luxury goods... Those asking usually assume that people that buy expensive goods are foregoing the alternative of doing something better with our money. They should stop to consider that we probably already have.

One of the best answers I've seen. Thanks for posting this! :smile1:

Nothing would make me happier than spending less than 1K on a bag, truly. However, the decline in quality among contemporary brands like Coach, and the focus on trend in the under 1K category make it nearly impossible. I'm not interested in this season's Michael Kors or Tory Burch bag. The compromise I make is limiting the number of bags I can own (to six! :sobs:), which I find very stressful since I have a hard time making a decision. Handbags cannot be stored in a vault like jewelry or watches and are generally not insured against theft, and are prone to damage/wear, so as far as an asset investment goes, they are near the bottom, imo.

I love this post!

Why spend $120,000 on a car when a $24,000 car will get you where you are going just the same?

Because you like it and can afford it.

And just because someone spends over $1k on a bag doesn't mean they don't also buy less expensive bags. If I like something that costs $100 I get it. If I like something that costs $3k I get it. I do have a limit on what I will spend on any one bag. Its called living within my means.

YES!!! Why is there sometimes the assumption that those who have nice things are selfish? SMH!

I buy what I can afford. I can afford to buy bags that are expensive. When I was younger, I couldn't. So I didn't.

I buy quality. That means I buy bags regardless of brand or price point with good materials, good construction and resale value.

I buy what I love - sometimes it's hard to have the discipline to not buy a bag that I just really like. But, I force myself. So when something comes around that makes me giggly - it's worth the price.

I used to not get the appeal of buying a designer brand when there are so many high street, fast fashion brands that put out similar, trendier designs for a much, much lower price.

I start using them, and they begin to fall apart after 3-4 months of semi-daily use. I've bought a lot of cheap bags, and with the amount of stuff I tend to carry everyday, I've had straps breaking on me in the middle of the street, bales that cracked in half (had to tie the strap to wherever I can on the bag so that it'll stay in place) What irked me is that most polyutherane bags peeled off badly after taking them out of storage, rendering most of my old bags useless :( I'm kind of a pack rat, so I still keep them, but I feel bad that they're just there sitting on a box as dead weight.

So in a year, let's say I buy 5 $75 bags = $375, all of these may last me 2-3 years
My first designer bag was $1500, this will last me 10-15 years (20 if we're generous), that's a cost of $150 (even less) per year, which is just a little bit higher than the cost of buying 5 cheap bags a year. If you're into contemporary designer bags, then you'll be saving much more.

Also, a very expensive bag tends to discipline me. I'm a lot more careful when dropping things on the table, I've been storing the bag nicely inside the dustbag, and most importantly, I've been very good at holding myself back with those high-street bag purchases :D

My vintage speedy 25 was $250 ebay and she still has a few years left in her but she is a 1993 and patinaed well i dont worry about rain and seeing her and holding her makes me smile

Because I don't listen well.

People say stuff about wasting money, cheaper bags being just as good, showboating, worrying about theft or damage, on & on.
But, the whole time I'm thinking, "I like that design. It's pretty. I could wear that & stuff it full of receipts & lip balm. Might survive my clumsy tendencies longer, as company will stock parts/repair beyond 18 months."
Sometimes, I listen so badly that I receive bags wanted as gifts. This is fabulous, but seems to irritate people even more.

Happy bunny with handbags, perhaps. Hopelessly warped. ;)

This. :)

Agreed. I spent money for bags I love, they can be much more than 1K or much less. As long as it's within my means n I don't deprived myself from other things in life. And my conscience is clear knowing I also contributed to community, did charity etc.

There are so many reasons (err....or excuses) for buying lol.

Simply because those bags are TDF!
Because those bags appeared in your dreams
Etc etc etc....[emoji23][emoji23]

Exactly;) There is a lot of truth to this comment. Because with every one luxury bag purchase that's kept for a very long time, handed down, or resold, there are probably 30 or more inexpensive fashion bags made of very inferior materials that were not bought, and don't end up in landfills. That's why I appreciate that there's a huge resale market that exists. People are selling even the oldest and poorest condition luxury bags, which is great because they are promoting reusing and reusing again and again:)
