Who else has never spent more 1000 on a bag?

Hehehe. This is me.

To answer OP's question:
My most expensive bag was 950,- and I'll leave it at that. Most of my bags are in the 200-300 price range and I am totally happy with this price point.
As another poster has stated, I use my more expensive bags not very often. Not because I am afraid, but because they are heavy, cumbersome to use,...

I feel the same. My expensive bags are cumbersome, boxy, they hang heavy and awkward on my shoulder. I tend not to use them much.

Every weekday morning, I spend 40 minutes on the subway. Sometimes my bag gets smushed up against other people. Sometimes I have to put my bag on the floor to be respectful of other people. This is much easier to do with something that I know to be a depreciating asset than something that I could potentially sell for a year’s worth of rent. Speaking of which, there are def brand conscious people in the middle class neighborhood where I live that would know what it’s worth and I see a lot of Hermes nearby the nonprofit where I work for and would prefer for donors to believe that we are spending their money responsibly.

Public transit on the weekend is a lot easier but a large, valuable, handheld bag that I can’t open and close easily and am afraid to overstuff still doesn’t suit my active lifestyle. I’m 26, I didn’t “earn” it, and there’s just something that feels off like I’m wearing someone else’s clothes. But because I’m still young my lifestyle might change. It’s undeniably a stunning bag. But I own stunning bags with <$200 resale values...

My mom is kind of the same way. It would look silly with her Occupational Therapist scrubs. She’s also changes bags super rarely so I believe she feels that once’s it’s “out” it will stay “out.” I hope she’ll be able to handle a heavy bag in retirement.

I use public transportation and a fancy purse would get slaughtered with dirt. I also feel a bit self-conscious carrying a pricey bag. Finally there's the rain. It rains frequently here. Most of my bags have rain spots. Some look really, really bad from rain spots even though they've been slathered with water-proofing potions. And I hate carrying a water-proof bag in which to carry my purse.

I haven't, will i ever? Doubtful but won't say never, my lifestyle doesn't require anything fancy and i have brands that i am more comfortable using that hit at lower price points.

I can certainly admire some of the fancy several $K bags but at the end of the day they truly aren't for me.

For me personally, I love vintage everything. So I buy and collect vintage handbags, mostly vintage Italian handbags. All of my handbags except for one is preowned. The one purchased new was a dooney and bourke little denim kinda banana style handbag from Macy’s given to me from my husband and I think that was on sale.

So far I think the most I have spent on a handbag is about $300. If there is a bag I really like, I won’t purchase it right away, I will search for one at a better price. If I can’t find another, then I may purchase it at a higher price. I don’t really have a cap on what I will spend, but I would rather have more nice bags to play around with, over one very expensive bag that I would have to baby and worry about damaging. I would definitely spend much more money on a piece of jewelry I want, over a handbag. There are quite a few days where I don’t carry a handbag at all, but I always wear jewelry.

I’ve never spent $1K+ on a bag .. the most I’ve spent is $120 on a preloved LV wallet. Any highend bag(s) I want, I always tend to ask for it as a birthday present, anniversary present or Christmas !
I bought a red Prada wallet years ago. It was on sale at Saks but still seemed like a lot for me to spend. I told myself it would be my forever wallet. So far, I've kept to it. It has faded some. You can see it when you compare the interior to the exterior. But I like it.

I've been on tPF for years, and this is the first that I've spent more than $1K on a bag. It's more like a milestone gift to myself, for getting a "real" full-time job; prior to that, my limit has been $600-ish. Doesn't mean that I won't buy anything cheaper than four digits now, as I've turned around purchased one that's $500, then two $250 bags. Rather than the price, I just buy what makes me happy!

I feel bad because I am a bit of a bag snob :hrmm:. This sounds awful but I've been given cheap bags as gifts and I don't wear them. I have a street level bag that I actually really like, it cost $35 and I have worn it out but I normally choose my more expensive bags instead because I'm a snob. I hate it when women give me the glance over at my bag and I'm wearing a cheapie.
So I do have several high end bags that cost over $1000 and I wear them for when I'm going to fancy places and they are very nice and I like them.
My comfort level of spending however is between $300 and $500. In my head that's not a cheap bag so I'm happy wearing it out but it's a price I am comfortable indulging in my bag obsession and I probably buy one bag every month or two in this price range.
The ridiculous thing is I could save and buy 1 premier designer every 6 months instead BUT even though I'm a bag snob I cant face using a premier bag every day so I dont buy them. They would get ruined and that would make me cry. It's so much easier for me to toss a $350 bag in my car and *enjoy* using it than obsess because I got a finger print on a $3,500 bag.
I'm also realizing that if I buy unknown or little known designers that still handmake bags I can get premier quality for a fraction of the cost. They look quality, they are quality and no one can judge me because all they can see is a beautiful leather handbag. Not a cheap plastic one, not one with a huge logo, not a Hermes or a chanel status symbol (and I do have the odd status symbol bag for fancy parties so I'm not being horrid about them) just a beautiful bag and I like that. I think it looks classy and tasteful and I enjoy using them because they are the quality I want yet I didn't pay a school fee for them. Win win .

I've never spent near that amount of money on a bag, I don't see anything wrong with it at all but it's just not for me. I seem to be stuck in the years 2006-2010 and like the bags that Botkier, Kooba, Treesje, Linea Pelle, Hayden Harnett, etc. used to make. I can find them relatively easily and inexpensively, and I think their leathers are beautiful. Top quality. I don't think any of their bags have the quality or great leathers anymore.
I think there are more women than you think who don't spend 1,000 or more on a bag here.
If I had that much to spend on a bag I think I'd buy a couple of Massecassi (sp?) bags, they're gorgeous!

I know. Back when I first joined TPF those brands were so much nicer. I have an old Botkier bag that's made of lamb skin. They don't make them like that anymore. Same with all the names you mentioned - they seem to have reduced the quality to keep the prices down.

I still have a bunch of the lambskin Botkiers, 5 or 6 I think. And some of the Koobas I have are lambskin, I compared one of my bags to the leather on a Chloe last time I was at the mall and there was a huge difference...

I've seem some older koobas at consignment shops. I don't think anyone but Hermes has leather that thick these days.

This is a dumb question, but where does thick leather come from? Is it only some cows or certain parts of cows?

Shelby33 as an owner of several Massaccesi handbags, I totally agree. The price for the quality is unbelievable. If you want to try one of Marco's bags, there is a group, Massaccessi BST, that you can join through Facebook. That is where we buy, sell and trade our Massaccessi bags that don't work for us. Sometimes we order one and it too big, too small, etc., so this is a way for us to share with each other. You can get one in nearly new condition for $100 to $350 dollars, usually.
