Where to place bag when in restaurant?

I recently purchased a purse hook--it's wonderful, though there are some tables/bars that have super thick surfaces where it won't work so my Bal goes on my lap or behind me on my chair seat.

As for "friends" that comment about not placing our bags on the floor--would they dump their coats, sweaters, jackets, wraps, etc. on the floor of the place we were at if there were no cloak rooms or backs on the chairs to rest them on? I doubt it. We don't put our shoes up on furniture and dining tables because they are on floors, right?

My hairdresser recently put a purse hanger he found outside (he didn't know what it was initially and he did clean it) on a little shelf at his station and his clients DO use it.

Where do you place your purse when you are at a casual restaurant? And where do you place your purse when you are at a fancy restaurant? Sometimes my purse is too big or uncomfortable to place on my lap while dining. Is it ok to place a small purse/WOC/wallet on the table? Thanks! I love reading TPF advice!

When I have a shoulder or crossbody bag, I usually put it on the back of my chair with my coat over it; that’s if I’m not at a restaurant where they check my coat. Otherwise I would still put it over the back of the chair butwrap it on my lap. When I have a smaller bag I would put it on the table; that is of course it is a long table as opposed to a square one; however this is not a good idea as something can spill on it. I should learn. One time I placed my iPhone on the table and the waitress spilled water. Thank goodness I had a waterproof case in it. When I find the table to get cluttered, I would place it on my lap with a napkin over it. Sometimes I would put it on the chair next to me if there is one. But you must be careful this time of year.

I typically use the Pallas clutch when I go out and keep it in my lap if I’m sitting in a chair or on the table next to me when it’s just me and my hubby and the table has a tablecloth. I’m very picky about not getting it dirty or stained

Never on the floor or the table. Either on an empty chair adjacent or hook it right behind me on the corner of the chair.

If we are sitting in a booth, it is on the bench next to me. Otherwise, a separate chair. If they have the kind of chairs I can hang my purse on, I'll hang it on my chair. Never on the floor or table. I hate having it on my lap. It is too easy to spill food on.

It's funny, I see women all the time with their purse in their lap at restaurants and I just think "why? How are you even comfortable?" It's not just a worry of food falling on it but definitely can't be comfortable having to keep your legs in a position so it doesn't fall off! The ladies who put them on the floor drive me batty, so gross.

Me too...Especially when I see it on the floor in the bathroom

Maybe the table if I'm carrying something small like my Coach Dinky and the table is large enough but this is never preferable

Big table? Handbag goes on it. Small table? Extra chair. Small table with no extra chairs? Purse hook.

If I am carrying one of my casual crossbody bags(which are inexpensive yet beautiful from a local artisan), it goes in my lap as they aren't too large

I usually place it right behind me in the same chair! I don’t carry larger purses when I go out to eat for this exact reason.
