What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

My latest UP is that I'm bored with seeing the same designs regurgitated in smaller sizes the Mini Jypsiere, neo garden party, mini herbag (I've forgotten the name) mini kelly, 15cm Birkin, mini Bolide etc.
I want to see exciting new designs not shrunken classics which-in my opinion-don't always look 'right'.
This! I was just asking this to my store director the other day - have the Hermes designers gone lazy? And I told her, give me a GP voyage any day, just not the neo GP!

Unpopular opinion - I know gold with GHW is the more popular choice, but I find gold with PHW much easier to style!! I was initially hesitant about gold with PHW since I mostly wear gold jewelry and wanted the hardware to match, but I’ve come to really love it. The warmth of the gold leather and the coolness of the PHW just balance each other out so well that you can wear this combo with almost any outfit!

My UO is that H should make all the sizes and not just what's fashionable. Is it too much to ask that a Bolide comes in a moderate 31 or a Plume 28 occasionally?

Mini or not, it's interesting that the most popular bags are 40-100 years old.

Most new designs don't seem to be very exciting at all. How is it 20 C designers understood proportion, anatomy, physics and ergodynamics and current designers only directive for new bags are to simplify construction and minimise labour costs so that mark-ups are maximised for shareholders. And this is Hermes.

💯

I have a Gold bag with ghw, I would prefer it phw. I prefer black and 'cool' colours with ghw (apart from pink). I'll stop now, it's obviously a complicated preference list that I have :D

Preach!

I cannot love this enough

....Or even a Bolide 35 and Plume 32 please! I think it's bad that a House like Hermès follows trends to this extent: I get that since smaller bags have been trendy they make more of them, but not give up on their classic sizes! I've litterally stopped buying bags from the store because they don't make the sizes I want, I can only buy pre-owned:annoyed: And don't get me started on new bag designs, they're all hideous IMHO!

I prefer Epsom over togo 🙈
Honestly another UO, I prefer epsom over chèvre. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like epsom gets a lot of hate and I don’t really get it.

I need a durable bag because I don’t tend to baby them (or intend to resell for that matter) and my Epsom bag is the only one I feel like I can carry and not worry about it as much. Contrast that against the only chèvre bag (geta), where it definitely has a lot of noticeable impressions/indents.

Not too sure if it’s the way the leather works or if it’s the bag itself. But I have a chèvre calvi duo with quite a bit of indents on it too from being squished.

ETA: that being said, I’d still take a chèvre QB if I got the chance though, I’d like to mix up the bags I have 😂

It’s more like this is modernity… Its not just Hermes with this MO. But it’s a shame even luxury brands have adopted this thinking. Which really defeats the point of luxury.

My UO is luxury bags that dont have feet dont feel luxurious at all. Take the picotin for example, it is a casual slouchy bag but feels luxurious when displayed standing on its own. Not to mention the sound it makes whenever you put it on a table. I know im weird that way. Of course, even more luxurious if it’s everyone’s favorite QB which have feet.

I love watching my small collection grow. Inasmuch as i want all colors of the rainbow, im grateful that i have what i have and i worked hard for them. Always doing girlmath for that overtime hustle. 😂 But, i dont want a large collection because im scared of being a target. So real, a friend of mine got her car broken into and she lost thousands worth of items.

This is essentially Punishing clients for acts that they have no control over and is an unfortunate decision. And it’s wrong to believe that most h clients are wealthy or willing to pay the premium. That 510 scarf will now cost 7-800 depending where you live. I’m not sure a lot of scarf buying clients will continue to buy like before. I know many were already slowing down purchases. Maybe H thinks there will be more business in stores overseas but American clients who do this are naive to think they won’t get hit at customs coming back in. It’s a different world we live in. I imagine a lot of the bread and butter type items like shoes belts scarves perfume will take big hits.

I think they have tried to pivot to perfumes and makeup kind of like Chanel so they don’t have to rely so heavily on their higher end products. However if those items will also go up 20% I’m not sure most will buy anymore. I think H cares but they may think their brand cache will keep them safe. In a time where consumers are hurting and investment portfolios are tanking the rich may not be so eager to spend either. The impression I have from that article is everything is going up 20% and watches 30%. This is just for the United States. A company as large as H can’t take a minor hit given revenue elsewhere?
Watches going up 30% would be crazy if it actually happens, since it's already an overpriced and not a popular metier.

UO: I think that with the recent exposé of other luxury brands (e.g. Dior: inhumane working conditions, factories in Italy that are just carbon copy of sweatshops in China so legally 'made in Italy' label can be used on the bags etc) those interested in status signifying items and artisanal leather goods will still continue to shop at Hermes, albeit apprehensively. And of course as @880 said the 1% will continue to shop wherever they like, including at H. Also let's not kid ourselves that part of the reason so many people like H is precisely because it is not accessible to so many people, the elusiveness and exclusivity is part of the fun in acquiring these bags. I still think there will be plenty of new players in the game, even those who might be after just one BK.
