What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

Haha I think any genuine attempt is satisfactory.

Broadly speaking my general view is as a client/consumer you can call things whatever you want, especially if you purchased something and own it .

Many Porsche owners know the “correct” pronunciation of Porsche but choose to pronounce it in their own way, which is fine. But if you’re representing the Porsche dealership in any capacity, you should attempt to pronounce it correctly (regardless of how poor the accent is), vs your own interpretation of how it should sound

So if you own a birkin and want to call it bikini squash, have at it!
I should also mention my UO, beyond applying to H SAs/employees, is more triggered by social media influencers who claim to be loyal clientele who appreciate the brand craftsmanship and blah blah (but clearly don’t appreciate it enough to do the research nor respect it) - not the new clientele who are genuinely new to the brand and probably too intimidated to whisper Hermes outloud.

For many it doesn't matter how you pronounce it, just as long as you have one in "hand" sort of speaking..LOL
I think that's precisely why its a pet peeve/UO. As much as these "enthusiasts" pronounce how much they love the heritage and craftsmanship, if you can't do basic due diligence to research proper terminology, its just a flex. It would be more honest if one stated it as such.

Unpopular opinion for sure but I wish Hermes made more...practical bags. I live in NYC, I'm a lawyer that goes into the office most days, and by subway (with a long walk to Hudson Yards!). I want a bag with an exterior pocket for a phone/metrocard, that zips closed, that's relatively lightweight, that can fit enough to leave the house for the day. The current bags are beautiful, lovely for perhaps weekends, but not practical for my daily lifestyle. I know, why spoil Hermes with pragmatism, but for the money, I'd love something more suitable for the NYC grind.

I'm also rather annoyed that I seem to have to prove I am not a bot every time I visit the site when reaching it from a link here, and am then redirected not to the specific page but the home page.

My final unpopular opinion for the day is that the scarf rings are underrated and I have amassed an inappropriately sized collection.
I also wish they made more bags with straps long enough to throw over your shoulder, but hug just under the armpit. I really loathe the proportions of the shoulder Birkin, so that won't work for me. Maybe a shoulder GP?

Here’s a list….attack if you must but I’m shielded by the title of this thread

1. I find it unacceptable when an SA knows nothing about H. As in, I would bet they couldn’t spell Hermes correctly the first time. I don’t expect every SA to be an H connoisseur, but surely there’s an intensive onboarding program to learn about basic history, most popular products, etc. I’m sorry, swift leather? Like leather you can sweep quickly? Yes of course we provide all bags in new box.

Im sorry madame, a 90 scarf? Im afraid we don’t have 90 scarves available to sell today…..oh you mean the size. Yes here we have the smallest size and over there you can see the large one. Sorry I don’t know what fabric it is… will you say? Let me check the tag…

2. It really irritates me when people, particularly SAs, don’t attempt to pronounce color names correctly. I recognize many people do not speak French, nor would I expect such a thing. But try to call the product/colors what they are. You may not be able to say “Hermes” with a perfect French accent but you know it’s not Huhr-meece . It’s just like pronouncing a name, if you’re not sure how to pronounce it, ask. Dont confidently pronounce wrong and repeat it again and again without verifying if you’re saying it wrong. Regular people I’ll give a pass. But an SA…again, know your shiznit.

3. I love smooth leathers, box, swift, Jonathan…. I know this is an UO as they are priced low on resale relative to non smooth leathers….but in my view are the epitome of depth and luxury. Whereas I find any type of pebbled leather/graining to look significantly cheaper (no hate to pebbled leather, like togo, I have a few with beautiful veining and they make great workhorse bags, but I think grained leather automatically makes any product look inferior to those with smooth leathers… this is my view for any brand not just H, but I find the gap much wider between H leathers )

Whew now I can relax
re point 1
just had a conversation in the boutique with an SA...
me (digging in the drawer with the CSGMs): ah, this is Bandana...
SA (nervously): Mam, this is not a bandana, it is a Giant Cashemere...
me: THE DESIGN IS BANDANA
SA (puzzled): ???
me: just open it
SA: Aaaah! it IS a Bandana!
me (rolled my eyes): .......

honestly, he had no freaking clue that CSGMs can be in Bandana design, and they do make them regularly, it's not like first time, first season, just arrived never seen before stock

On the subject of shrink wrap, I am pretty sure it is location dependent. This photo was from two years and one day ago. I am usually oblivious to this kind of things and don’t pay much attention if it has stopped.

My UO: I had reasons to believe that this bag was shrink wrapped for dramatic reasons. ;). It was a HSS item and I am pretty sure my SM and SA would have inspected it prior to calling me up.

When I got my first picotin from my current SA, I did request for him to ensure BNIB / shrink wrapped like yours (that was about 3 years ago) so he can open for me while I video the unboxing to see a brand new bag with its amazing leather smell. But my recent mini evelyne, the box was "wrapped" with the brown strip of paper. Aww cute dog!!

Pls also post this is the heard at Hermes thread. I laugh each time I read it
at Colette, not being able to pronounce or even know what to ask for, would let you leave the shop empty handed …
This is why, back in the day, I was too intimidated to ever go inside

My SA told me that the shorts didn’t sell all that well. UO: I love them. They are probably the best cost per wear item
that I purchased this summer. Their bathing suits, on the other hand, leave much to be desired lol.

From an article on People.com

This is so true. Proof that im poor coz i prefer neutrals lol
I've read this sentiment before, something like black birkins usually indicate a person has "only" one and that's why it had be a neutral that matches everything they wear because they will want to wear it all the time to get their money's worth. while this statement is snotty, maybe it is to flatter people who accept the crazy colors lol. I never thought I'd wear a baby blue or bright green bag, but here I am.
I was starting to feel "undesirable" to hermes because I have been waiting for almost a year for a neutral bag, but none that I like the style of are ever available to me.... I love the pastel and bright colors that ended up working out for me. But I still dream of etoupe. :( someday I hope.

hehe they may not be able to say it but they can buy it!

UO: I don’t like the Kelly belt, I have one and when I use it, the little straps in the back you use to adjust the width move throughout the day, you sit down, when you get up you have to adjust it again. Really irritates me. And every time my SA is like “oh we got a Kelly belt would you like to see it”. One is more than enough 😜
I went to try on Kelly belt recently, I didn’t like the quality of leather at all (is it made in Epsom?), too rigid, plus the width of the belt didn’t flatter me… I’m glad I’ve seen it in person and realized that sometimes items that are very popular are not for me
