UO, I don’t like the Kelly elan. But that’s bc its shape and depth reminds me of a Charles jourdan bag that my FIL got me maybe 7 years after I stopped wearing the CJ heels. It embodied everything about the late 1980s to mid 90s that symbolize fashion decades gone wrong.

I know that’s a lot of emotional freight to put on the innocent, and by all appearances, practical Kelly elan lol. But a tiret and sangliers cannot save it from my association. It doesn’t help that it’s sleek and streamlined like a greyhound. To me that’s just antithetical to the Kelly’s solid, somewhat chunky, top handle nature

 ETA: I happily overstuff my epsom Kelly mini II, and fit everything in, including sunglasses (valextra universal case) and iphone 15 (no case). The flap still manages to squeeze over the tiret  Getting stuff out it another matter, but that’s the Kelly lifestyle.

ETA: I have a bad tendency of eating my words. So if I am fortunate enough, a year or two from now, to be offered a Kelly elan… well, I will bear that burden valiantly :P I was after all positive that the mini K II was not for me.

You too the words - very eloquently!- out of my mouth! I want to love it and for a hot minute thought about adding one to my wishlist. But alas, I feel like it’s nor here nor there. No handle to use as a clutch and the strap although removable would then mimic the Kelly to Go. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree with you, I particularly dislike its proportions (long length/short height)! And, yup, I've also have done 180s. I had a similar feeling regarding larger, flat clutches. Mine was an association with the ladies' fashion on the program Dallas :P, who often carried them. But, I now have 2 Jige Elans. Never say never!

Oh, geesh, I just realized you were referring to the Kelly Elan (not the Kelly Cut)! My post likely makes no sense at all (I've never even seen the Kelly Elan :P). Anyhow  nothin' to see here...

Actually I thought your post made perfect sense :flowers: Speaking as someone who actually watched Dallas and remembered Victoria Principal and Linda Gray lol

UO: Hermes, actually any premier designer, is too expensive not to be sure before you buy. Try to listen to your gut reaction. That will tell you more than a bunch of anonymous internet opinions (Speaking as someone who doesn’t buy unless I absolutely love it and know I will wear it long term. But, I find returning a serious waste of everyone’s time including of course my own)

UO: you had better love your prespend item, bc otherwise it’s like a gambler betting against the house

💯. Not to say mistakes aren’t made, but most shopping adults on this forum have been to a store a few times already and have some thoughts about their shopping style. Further, if you’re reaching outside of your comfort zone in terms of style or color, IMO it’s best to own that and step lightly or be prepared to absorb the expense. It’s not the SA’s fault that you made a mistake but a good one will help you avoid them.

Given the amount of Birkin bait on FP, I’m not sure that many people stop to think about whether they will love it. Some find it ok to turn around and sell it at a loss. To them they kept their SA and or SM happy by spending money. And plus life is all about getting that Birkin or Kelly right?

My UO opinion is that I don’t like how H and the H frenzy turns what I assume are rational people into crazed obsessive “I must have this Birkin or Kelly no matter what the cost” individuals.

Ok, probably a super unpopular opinion.
I was just reading the Hermes London thread and whilst I'm sure there are exceptions for VIPs a Wishlist system where everyone just has to wait to get to the top of the list seems very fair to me.
I just don't understand why if you have the money to drop on a load of stuff you don't really want, you don't just go to the preowned resale market.
I get the authenticity thing but it's not that hard to get a bag either authenticated by Bababebi or (if you're like me and a bit of a worry wart) drop it off to the H spa to know categorically that it's authentic.
Why the obsession of having a bag directly from the boutique? Unless it's just a status symbol thing?
Personally I love the bags, think they look even better when they're a bit worn in so have never even asked for a new one, but if I did I'm blowed if I'd spend the next few months tallying up everything I've spent on other stuff.. honestly if it's that big a thing just get it somewhere else!

Haha! I hated it until I got one. Gold on gold! Perfect travel bag-for me and for now— until I find another one. But then again I also hated the Kelly 25 — until I got one. If I have learned anything from “me” is that my H opinion constantly changes. Oh and thanks bc now I can’t get Charles Jordan out of my mind, oh the 80/90s! The Kelly elan is sooo very 80s long strap and all. Cheers! 🤣
