What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

My latest UO came about after reading a comment from a poster on one of the threads who described the whole preoccupation with prespend as 'toxic'.
I agree with this..and in fact I find the obsession and fervor around aquiring a K or B really distateful at the moment...reading and hearing of adults crying and begging for a bag, being vile to SA's etc just gives me the 'YUK'.
I cant bear the drama and envy that seems to be never far for the surface when reading through various shopping or influencer threads.
Hermes shopping seems to have become like a competitive sport..who can spend most, get the best offers, the best SAs, the fastest offer etc etc
Its sad especially when I hear of so many people just plotting what to buy next and overstretching themselves in order to get an offer of a bag.
I miss the old days...
I wholeheartedly agree with every single word in your post! I’m praying that somehow the words or terms “quota bag” and “prespend” are somehow blocked as disallowed terms on this forum (ducks for cover).

UO: actual amounts already spent on your profile may not matter as much as slow trajectory of upward spend or growth potential in expanding metiers. An SA will also respect one’s taste and budget if this is communicated to them,
and they can tell if a client genuinely loves something rather than considers it a means to an end.
It’s helpful not to think of this as a game bc that will generally lead to frustration

 I will continue wearing. my unfashionable caps

In France, they are a staple, like flat caps in the UK or baseball caps in the US.
I have a Breton cap, have had it for about 50 years - but it is not Hermes. It is timeless, and young women still wear them. It is a big part of the gamine look, particularly when worn with shorter hair. And of course de rigueur with Bretons fishermen too....

Having embarked on my Hermès 'journey' many moons ago I'm reading every post in the relationship thread and plotting how to play the 'game' in the mega competive landscape that is shopping 'H' in 2024.
I really want to 'Score' a 'Quota Bag' and am wondering what sport of 'Prespend' I can expect for a Mini Kelly.
Theres a lot of 'junk' I'm considering buying like FJ or a Watch and maybe from the home catagory a Barrel.
I may just go to Paris..What are my chances of a walk in appointment? What time shall I go and what shall I wear?
Am I better off waiting for a rainy day on the weather forcast and just jumping on Eurostar ?
If I stay in a Hotel can my concierge book me appointment?
If my DH goes to the desk will it put me in better stead as I understand men do better at 'scoring' Quota bags without appointments.
And for those who got lucky in Paris..Did you have a previous profile? what did you buy? what did you spend and which store did you visit?
Just joking of course...
But for me all the above are triggers and things that I consider pretty unpopular with us OG's

I saw a woman with a Kelly today and it confirmed my feeling that it is an AWFUL bag. It looks so dumb left open but the bag is so difficult to open and close that you pretty much have to leave it that. The woman she was with had a B and it just looked so much better.

Unpopular opinion I know, but you couldn’t even gift me a Kelly.
LOL, please redirect all @texas2015's Kellys to me! :flowers:

I'm going to double down here and give another UO (yes this is partially spurred by the influencer thread):

If you can afford to buy one or multiple Hermès bags, you are either an adult human being with a career, an adult who's savvy enough to have a supportive partner with a good career, or have wealthy parents. Therefore:

1) You can navigate a retail store without the help of total strangers.
2) You are capable of using the search function on a website.
3) You don't leave bags worth five figures empty sitting alone, filled with your belongings, in places where you don't know a soul or speak the language.
4) You don't need to pay a stranger on the internet a four figure sum to tell you that being polite to a sales associate is better than being rude.
5) You know that brands do not actually have "fairies". The last "fairy" you might have believed in gave you several euros for a tooth when you were five - but c'mon, even then you knew the truth.

;)

My UO: there is a “crabs in a barrel” mentality amongst H shoppers. Once someone finds out another person’s experience differed from theirs, the negativity starts. And thus triggers the gatekeeping so many complain about.
absolutely. you'd think people would want to bond over their common interest in something, but there's a lot of "the way I go about things is better," or someone has to be contrary, and then there's spreading weird rumors to rain on someone else's parade or invalidate their experience. the best "advice" I received is that there are not any rules, rhyme or reason, it's just luck with inventory (across all categories) and at the discretion of the SA and it's different for everyone. and don't spend money with an SA who isn't helpful and kind to you.
as much as I like the brand, I believe people when they say they had a bad experience or the items they bought were defective or not worth the trouble TO THEM. they don't have to fangirl over every category to be "worthy" of anything. that part is so weird to me, wanting to gatekeep from those who only like the bags and don't want houseware. a lot of people think the bags themselves are "junk" and way overpriced, but if you are a handbag enthusiast you know why they are valuable and it doesn't seem to bug Hermes lovers as much people saying they don't want the other items. you could say, some are a little fragile about it 😉 pun intended!
