What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

I will say that the scarf people DO talk about deteriorating quality. It's real.
And my unpopular opinion is that the "forever" scarves (a reissue in only one color of a classic design) should be priced as they were when first issued LOL
I've wondered about the scarf quality. I suppose my unpopular opinion, (it feels odd to type it because I don't want to offend anyone who does like them) is that a lot of the current (over the past few year at least) scarf designs seem cartoonish or like animation.

My unpopular Hermès opinion is that after decades of loving and collecting Hermès bags, I no longer feel comfortable carrying my Kelly or my Birkin. I agree that those styles are over exposed and just too high profile.

For me, celebrities, reality "stars", and YouTube flexers have diminished the allure of the brand in general. The whole quota bag system, multiple purchase requirements, and cultivating "relationships" with SAs is ludicrous. These days, I only carry H bags that don't attract attention like the Bolide, Massai, or Gao. I have also started buying Valextra, a low key (and reasonably priced) brand that years ago Stanley Marcus rated above Hermès in his book "Quest for the Best.
Same here. I am not comfortable wearing it when im out with friends or family because i feel judged with all their questions. First of all, i am able to pay my bills and have no financial baggages. (Most if my friends are not in the luxury space). I only do wear them mostly when im by myself or when travelling where nobody knows me. I never post them on my personal social media or if ever theres a glimpse of it on a picture, i disable the comments feature. I do have an anonymous social media acct to post some pictures wearing these bags. I most often appreciate the birkin and kelly bags when talking about it here with like-minded people or appreciating looking at my collection displayed on my bag cabinet. Otherwise i like under the radar styles like my Garden party for which im looking to add another one in the future… and maybe a verrou and a della.

Also, at a recent outing with my friends, someone asked how i keep my bags. I shouldnt have answered the question because it posts a security risk altho he did say i should have or buy a safe to store them. I live alone and im now scared to travel long term and leave some of the bags at home when people around me will know there are high value items in my house at major risk for being stolen. You never know who you can trust.

Also, To each their own but i find it cringey and unsafe that some people on public social media overtly expose their collection with their identity fully exposed. A few pcs thrown in here and there is ok but if it’s head to toe luxury designer— that’s a different story.

No worries about saying that out loud - recent designs are definitely cartoonish and repetitive, and the printing quality is horrible.

Been a while since I shared some UO. Please forgive me , I feel moody today :

Buy what you love and the bag will follow is pure theory, unless you are on a pure wishlist system if that exists , you are financially very comfortable, or you already have a beautiful bag collection and dont care anymore.
In reality you need to ´ work’ for your next bag and be mindfull even if you love your purchase.

Last one :
Shopping at H is time consuming! Sending a text to your Sa, sending a reminder, going back to the store because your size is not available today, checking the available cw for your scarves, finding the reference number of an item, sending it to your SA, ordering online but at the store to make it count on your profile and..maintaining a relationship with your SA and with the store, dont insist or talk about your wishlist often.. buy in various categories, dont make return often, wait for your offer, decline your offer, wait again for your next offer!, and so on…. , Fiiiw, Exhausting

Full Disclaimer : Apparently I love spending (consuming ) my time like this !

At some point in time, Hermès’ opacity (continual untruths / leading buyers on) and brand experience causes you to abandon the brand. I am there. I recently was traveling in Beverly Hills and needed a small wallet. The choice was Goyard, Hermès, and LV. I walked into Goyard, chose a style, chose a color, paid and was out the door in 20 minutes. I rolled my eyes at the thought of walking into H and dealing with SA attitude and stock issues.

I have all the scarves, QBs, and H bags that I need. It used to be that Christine Lagarde was an unofficial face of the brand. Now, it’s the Kardashians. And if Kardashian style is your thing, great. But it’s not mine. Hermès has moved on from people like me. It’s only natural for me to move on too.

The workmanship has degraded over time. Hermès craftsperson’s have less than half the time to make the bags now, than they did prior to the 2010s. I have to think there have been shortcuts in materials quality too.

I now commission bespoke bags with Peter Nitz. I get the style, leather and size I want. The process is seamless. The workmanship puts Hermès’ to shame.

I do not regret my decision to part ways with Hermès. If I see something in the resale market that I like, then I’ll buy it. But I am done with the stores.

BTW, I got my first H scarf in 1978.
I couldn’t agree more. I am in the same boat. I won’t engage in the current “game”. Every time I walk out of a store that handles customer service beautifully, I immediately compare it to Hermes as it is today. Not a pleasurable experience.

My unpopular opinion is that the gatekeeping amongst Hermes shoppers and enthusiasts is ridiculous. It's enough that the brand gatekeeps, they don't need their customers doing it, too.
Just because someone cannot afford to- or chooses not to- purchase H, it doesn't mean that they can't appreciate the finer things in life.

This post is inspired by a conversation overheard, where Person A complimented Person B's Mini Kelly, only for B to retort that A shouldn't try to sound like she understands what a mini kelly is, since she has never walked into an H boutique. My jaw hit the floor.

ITA, Xthgirl. I remember an incident a few years ago when a woman who constantly displayed and talked about her entire collection online was robbed. Apparently, she had done interviews in the past in which she used her real name. The burglar targeted ONLY her H bags. Fortunately, the police found the culprit and her bags were returned. She was very lucky. What's more, in big cities it's VERY easy for someone to knock you down and grab your Birkin. No, for the foreseeable future I'll admire it on the shelf, or only carry it when I'm with my husband.

Say more…

More judicious choices in the twilly selection, more judicious choices in the bags (I have seen some hard to style colors get twillies in the hopes that the various colors in the silk will allow the bag to be worn with more of the wardrobe) or judicious in terms of people picking a light color, then being fearful of staining…creating a perception that twillies are a necessity regardless of whether they are liked?
Another unpopular opinion- I don't care for perfectly arranged little twillies on H bag handles. It doesn't look bad or anything, I just find it a bit precious. I take reasonably good care of them, but I don't baby my H bags. I have never bought them with eventually reselling them in mind. I do tie my full size scarves on the handles, though.
