My unpopular opinion #googolplex is that I don't think it's a crime to put a bag on the floor. I understand and respect that it's a cultural belief for many (that's different), and I wouldn't put a bag on, say, a public restroom floor, but my floor at home is spotless and frankly a lot more germ-free than, say, a restaurant seat that 25 people have sat in that day alone. It is just a handbag, not visiting royalty. Judge away!

No problem with putting my bags on the floor in my home or someone else's, but never in a public place where it could be easily "lifted." Same with hanging bags on the back of chairs in public places.

My unpopular opinion is seeing posts of B's on the ground (including at home on the floor) and leaving their K's wide open while walking down the street in big cities. Both make me cringe.
Kelly's wide open also trigger me. First of all, you're inviting someone to lift your wallet. Second, It can't be good for the bag.

I may make myself unpopular with this take but I'm stepping up to my soapbox....

To everyone who asks about B/K prespend, there's a formula that used to be secret but is now being revealed by me, whose expertise has been gleaned by reading (most) every Hermes forum thread and the answers thereto on this subject. Pre-spend is a derivative of reseller price, to wit, the average price of B/K at major resellers equals retail price plus pre-spend, plus/minus 35% premium for Beverly Hills and Madison. No matter what appears in writing/on video anywhere, walking into a boutique seeking a MK or B/K25 is like playing the lottery. Yes, someone wins, but the likelihood that it will be you is somewhere close to non-existent.

As I mentioned in the Maintaining an H Relationship thread, economics saturates the search for a coveted B/K (arguably it saturates everything but that's for another thread). The reason these bags are priced at two or more times retail is because it costs two or more times the retail price to obtain one (prespend). The reason people opt to purchase from resellers is that you can get exactly what you want by whipping out your credit card, and there's no excess inventory (all of the furniture, yacht renovations, RTW and High Jewelry) to get rid of. Shopping at the boutique is not as certain a process (inventory, your status in the pecking order, your SM's fight with her partner that put her in a bad mood) but if you like many of the other things Hermes has to offer it can be rewarding, with patience.

To my mind, the answer to all of these pre-spend questions and variations (no, your circumstances are not really unique) is to write a check or fall in love with something else. Full disclosure: I have been offered unpopular (larger and more delicate) Birkins and other bags; I've been a fan of the silks and cashmeres for many years, and have dabbled in other metiers (no sofas ). I'm not what I would consider to be a high spender in this context and will never be a VIP although I feel obligated to say that this is financially rarified air we're breathing in here, many, many people have more quotidian concerns.

But I have taken my own advice. I'm not especially a small bag person but I needed something to cover that hole in my wardrobe and decided to fall in love with something else because the retail effort/resale prices for a special occasion/quasi evening event bag were beyond what was reasonable to me and for my lifestyle. My little black clutch thing (https://www.savette.com/collections/symmetry-pochette) makes me very happy and solved my problem with minimal fuss and expense. I'm also giving some thought to going the bespoke route for my next bag.

P.S. I made up the percentage number for a premium at BH and Madison because those seem to be special cases both in terms of tourist visits and financial make up of the local clientele. Further, from my reading, I suspect these observations are not far off for boutiques outside of the US; indeed, the pre-spend information in some boutiques in Asia is quite transparent.
Yes! Bespoke!!!! I got 1 bespoke from a craftsman in Bali in the Jodie medium design but I picked the actual hide it was made from.

I got 2 bespoke from craftsmen in China who put my name on the bags. Loved the leather and the stitching.

This might only be an unpopular opinion for some: nobody on this forum is a gatekeeper stopping anyone else from getting a bag. What a lot of strangers say on the internet has no physical bearing whatsoever on whether you got the bag you wanted in Paris, your home store or anywhere else. On the other hand, plenty of people on this forum are extremely generous with their knowledge and experience (thank you! :flowers: ), and they're all basically saying the same thing, which is be kind, respectful, patient and buy what you love and good things will follow.

I don’t understand the point of asking where anyone else got their bag. It doesn’t have any influence on what you might get - if anything it means there’s one bag less in that store/location doesn’t it? Perhaps I’m missing something.
different stores have different ways of buying that's why there's a podium, so if a bag is spotted in a particular store (say a Plume), it could mean that the store is open to buying Plumes and not just Birkins and Kellys and whatnot, and another Plume (maybe in a different size/color/leather) might be there so I guess that's why people ask.

My unpopular opinion: H doesn’t owe anybody an explanation on who they want to sell a B/K to. They’re a luxury house not catered to the masses. People forget that and think that just because they have the money to spend they are therefore entitled to buy. No honey, it doesn’t work that way.
Amen. There is no magic formula. Just be a decent person to the SAs and be a true fan of the brand.

As someone who asks that question, its because I live in an area where I can go to at least 4 different stores. Each "merchandises" differently, and has different levels of stock available, and different ways, it seems, of determining who gets to walk away with various items. I ask not just out of curiosity, but to try to understand how different stores work.

I see, interesting, I get that - I’m a long way from the nearest store so quite different

I have somehow managed to avoid having more than one bag from any one brand (lies--I have two from Prada, but they're drastically different). At this point in my life, I can't imagine having multiple of the same bag. But I can see maybe someday having a few H bags, just not a few of the same H bag.
I'm exactly like you!!! Can't do same bag different colours, just can't dish out my money like that ‍♀️
