What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

The “Kelly buckle surcharge” on Hermès shoes is absolutely ridiculous and unreasonable. There could be two almost identical pairs of loafers but the one with the Kelly fastening buckle is always double in price. And it doesn’t suit many designs.
Oh, but they’re covering that precious Kelly buckle with a piece of leather (each shoe), in addition to the usual plastic to protect the metal, so a $400 surcharge is a must! (#sarcasm, if that wasn’t obvious!)

My unpopular opinion: H doesn’t owe anybody an explanation on who they want to sell a B/K to. They’re a luxury house not catered to the masses. People forget that and think that just because they have the money to spend they are therefore entitled to buy. No honey, it doesn’t work that way.

Hahha this is epic and made me laugh. So true.

Some businesses have a right to refuse service and H has a right to refuse bags

And I’ll add this: stop getting mad because you find out someone at your home store got a bag with less spend in less time. They’re the exception, you’re the rule. Let it go and quit complaining to your SA/SM. It’s petty and childish.

My unpopular opinion is that, as much as I'd love a Birkin or Kelly someday, I don't know if I'd ever feel comfortable to carry it in front of friends or family. I fear I'd be judged for how much I've spent on a bag, especially since many people have inflated ideas of how much a B/K actually costs. A lot of my friends have designer bags under 4-5k, but I don't know anyone in my social circle with Hermes bags and hate thinking about standing out in that way.

Carrying a birkin or kelly when the person is under 30years old makes someone look aged(mature?).This is my observation, not judgement.
30-39: depends on how it is carried/styled
40 and above: usually classy, elegant
Above 60: perfection
Of course there are exceptions. But from watching youtubers carry their b/k, l thought they are 30+ and am surprised to learn that they are only in their mid 20s

The Hermes and influencers thread is rapidly becoming a hotbed of nasty personal comments about a person's appearance, casting aspersions about individuals' wealth and how they choose to spend their money, and how they choose to prioritise their spending.

Being wealthy is not, and should not be a pre-requisite to be an influencer, nor an Hermes customer. Neither is is it some sort of a moral victory. Having wealth should be a factual point, not something to be admired as a paragon of style, taste or class.

Someone can choose to save their entire lives to buy one Hermes bag, take public transport, house it in an IKEA wardrobe, in a studio apartment or buy 20 of the same bag in different colours, in a custom climate-controlled walk-in wardrobe, in a mansion, being driven around in a Maybach...

Both are valid choices.

I completely agree and thank you for this comment!

Even being housed in climate control, 20 different colors and driven around is not enough for that thread. The comments about Cardi B not looking like an H client is what made me finally put that thread on ignore.

I don’t understand the I hate influencers but watch their every move thing.
