What is Fashionphile smoking?

I've just read this thread on Fashionphile (and several others) from beginning to end. I have to say that if I had read these threads earlier I would have never have purchased from Fashionphile.

Lucky for me, I didn't read them until after I purchased two Chanel bags from them (bought at different times)--both bags from prior seasons. I love both and they are absolutely authentic. IMO the descriptions were dead on. Based on my experience I would purchase from them again.

In reading everyone's very valid comments I started thinking how difficult it would be to be in Fashionphile's business. I imagined myself as the owner and thought about what I would do differently to ensure authenticity. I didn't come up with much better than they are already doing. (That's not to excuse listing a counterfeit bag--I know we all agree on that.)

I guess the main thought I came away with is that as consumers of pre-owned luxury goods, we have to be educated and be knowledgeable about what we are buying. It is a tricky market and you can't rely just on reputation or good intentions.

If you live in a city with a LV store, it's ridiculous to pay $100 over retail, but there aren't LV stores in every state in every single country...
Vuitton.com is available in a couple countries, and they don't ship international
If you're really far away from a store, and don't want to be scammed with a fake bag, it's no that crazy to buy it...

Although I think Fashionphile are VERY good sellers and have very high standards what you have to take into account (and it is no secret to members who have been on this forum some time) that Fashionphile (like most re-sellers) have 2 Ebay ID's and buy bags from one account and re-sell under the Fashionphile account, example "X" ID buys LV bag for $200 and re-sells on Fashionphile ID for $600.

I think there is NOTHING wrong with this but maybe now and again some things do slip through the net. But Fashionphile are quick to act if anything does go wrong.

^^ that was pretty bad, maybe they mistook it for a vintage? idk, i continue to accept fashionphile as one of the better sellers on ebay.

With a date code of 2005? Not likely.

I don't want to bad-mouth them, but really....they are sooo adamant about being such a reliable seller, and the mistakes they've made have been almost painfully obvious (for the most part). It just makes them sound undeniably pompous, is all. JMHO.

Agreed, there's nothing wrong with flipping bags. And they do act quickly and make it right. But I continue to ask: WHY is it happening in the first place? The fakes have been very obvious!

I do agree missbanff and I also agree with charleston-mom. This is the huge problem with flipping bags and as charleston-mom said in one of her posts, Fashionphile has lots of people working for them so I guess you are right, why is this happening?.

I know that (Fashionphile use different id then re-sell) in fact, I have sold one to her prior to their business grew to Beverly Hills. That id had been changed since as well. I think she used to be in S. A., TX.:hrmm:

"Quick to act if something goes wrong?" Big deal. She sells thousands of bags. There may many fakes that have slipped through to people who don't know they have gotten a fake because they either trusted her implicitly or didn't get it authenticated or are just "Jane Doe" from "Podunk" and don't know any better. That she acts when she gets caught doesn't make me feel better. What about all the times she doesn't get caught. What about those poor people?

I have a sinking feeling the ones we have caught are just the tip of the iceberg. I wouldn't touch her auctions with a ten foot pole.

Once again, buying in the second hand market is a risk for many things. Its all an option. Like you well said, you dont feel comfortable and wont buy from her, so don't. Those who are looking for older items they missed out on, etc. i guess will have to.
I think a couple fakes or even a handful of fakes, from the thousands of bags she has sold, is undeniably impressive. Frankly, when you compare to the rest of the ebay market, shes probably one of the best choices.

In the end, in a second hand market the buyer is also required to be educated in what theyre buying. Like buying a used car that turns out to be lemon from a even the finest of establishments... It can happen. At least shes offering full money back as customer service seems a priority. With a used car lemon, good luck battling it out at court.

I know this is an old thread. I bought a GUCCI and FENDI from Fashionphile. Both Authentic.:D

Bottom line is they have a 100% return policy. If they were truly scammers
:sneaky: then it would be pretty obvious.:busted

All businesses no matter how excellent they are - will have their "naysayers" - and all businesses now matter how reputable and "perfect" they are will make mistakes.

Fashionphile hasn't made THAT many mistakes. They hold themselves to a very high standard and they KNOW they are selling high end items to mostly very astute, well informed clients.
:smartass:

They don't want to sell fakes! They are a very well known business and this would be - well hm - oh yes - BAD for business.

If this was happening regularly we would certainly know about it! The pictures are of the same bag you are getting - and by the pictures alone you can have that authenticated- and/or do the research yourself to have it authenticated.

If they were selling fakes regularly or even rarely- people would be coming down on them ALL THE TIME!
:rtr:

Their business would suffer and legal action would have been taken on them eventually.

There's so LITTLE negative feedback quite frankly.

You have to look at percentages. Most people are HAPPY with FashionPhile. You also have to know that there are buyers out there who are difficult as well.

No business, no human (and businesses are run by humans) are perfect.

Sadly there are a lot of evil, greedy people out there running businesses that DO hurt and scam people - and they DO this intentionally. However, Karma is Karma and they don't get away with it for very long.

Anyway continuing:

The prices might be a little higher at Fashionphile - but they are STILL lower than retail - and they price it according to the condition.

And yes of course they want to make money - it is a business. She knows she's not going to make money by making people miserable.

I sell on ebay. I am not a 'business' by any means - however I will tell you it is VERY important to me that my buyers are thrilled with their purchases. The money means nothing to me if there isn't a positive streak of buyer satisfaction behind it.:yahoo:

So I say - no matter what - whomever you buy from - do your research anyway! Being an informed consumer is always your best bet!

(Oh Yes! I am looking for a DIOR NEWSPAPER PRINT BAG!
Anyone? Thanks!):ty:

Regards,

Vivian

I beg to differ:

http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=fashionphile&ref=home

Also, I don't think anyone here thinks they are scammers; as stated many times, if they list or sell a fake, they make it right and pretty quickly, to be fair.

The question people have is WHY does it CONTINUE to happen?

One more thought:

I know there are several members on here who have had fantastic experiences with them, and that's great.

But when people say that they're (FP) hands-down trustworthy, it's just plain foolish, IMO, especially for a newbie who might not know they're being sold a fake.
