What is a bag you obsessed over, but ultimately did not buy (and why)?

I had the money, I was in Paris... but I didn't buy the Chanel Classic Jumbo in the Black Caviar with GHW. In fact, I didn't buy anything Chanel on my trip. Why? Because I think the bag was kind of ruined for me. I started obsessing over the leather, whether or not quilts worked for my lifestyle, resale value, all the current Chanel politics regarding price increases and quality of product & service, whether or not I liked the chain, whether or not people would think it was fake, etc.

I was even fusing over if the bag could be called a 'classic Chanel' if Coco herself didn't design it! (I know it's silly.)

The bag lost its lustre for me. I was too fussy and stressed over it. Maybe in the future, I'll come back to it. But at this moment, it's not the bag for me. I bought the Celine Triumphe bag in Red a few months later from my trip, and I adore it. Was half the price of the Chanel Jumbo, and I prefer the Celine bag aesthetically. Still looking for a black bag with a shoulder or crossbody chain.

View attachment 4457074 I obsess about bags rather a lot, as you can imagine. If I bought everything I liked I’d have no room in my flat for anything else.
However the last bag I obsessed about was a little hand held basket. I loved the shape and elegance, it was very inexpensive and versatile, but I just could not justify ANOTHER bag

Agreed. Price is one thing but space (and head space) is the real issue

My UHG, an authenticated Hermès Kelly retourné 32 in gold/GHW swift, just fondled admiringly in a consignment store in Vienna.

I´m sorry, but 6.000 Euro are the equivalent to *three* 2-week Portugal trips, all costs paid. And, as much as I desire that particular bag, I simply love the Marquês de Pombal and his legacy (18th-century Lisbon, Douro and Port wines, Coimbra university courses, Portuguese tapestries) infinitely more.

Dior Diorama. I adore geometric and architectural-looking styles, so the design really appealed to me, and I liked the lack of logos, but I ultimately decided that it has a blingy/look-at-me vibe that I really dislike. I don’t own any Dior bags, and I think that I was influenced by my general impression of the brand’s style, which is a bit prissy/fussy. I really dislike the Lady Dior, for example, so I found it hard to shell out major money on another Dior style. And the more I thought about it, the more that the Diorama seemed prissy and showy to me.

I obsessed over a Speedy 30 for decades ever since my mom had it. When I finally decided to buy one, I couldn't do it, and instead bought a Sienna. I ended up giving that to my aunt. I just am not a big boston style bag person I guess. I was more obsessed with the design rather than how it would function for me. If LV came out with a DE 20cm speedy, I think I would definitely get it. It would have to have an extended zipper though.

I was thisclose to buying all these bags at one point.

Chloe Marci Medium - Love everything about it but not sure it's right for me
LV Petite Noe - Love it but that square base will drive me nut, I know it! (This is the only one that 100% off the table)
Balenciaga Bazaar Shopper - Maybe one day if I find the right colorway/sale price. Not sure I'll get enough use out of it
LV BumBag - I'm just too paranoid of how it will wear

I’m now the 3rd person on this thread who feels this way about the Alma BB. I waited for one in pistache and when it became available and I tried it on, it did not look right. I am 5’3” so I figured the petite bag would look great on me. Not so. Sad day. But I’m glad to learn I’m not the only one.

Alma bb—got it and returned it. Looked strange on me! I think all the pics and videos on social media influenced me!

Love this thread because it acknowledges that there are so many wonderful bags that we appreciate but, just aren’t right for us individually. I still think these bags are beautiful. I just didn’t buy because...

• LV Sofia Coppola - I don’t like hand carry and the style really isn’t me. Plus I worry the structure wouldn’t hold and if carried half filled it would collapse a bit.

• LV Cappucines - I’ve read it’s heavy and as I looked at it, it seems a bit more old fashioned than I’d like.

• LV City Steamer - It’s heavy and they never offered the leather / hardware combo I wanted.

• LV Kimono - I just think this is such a striking bag. But, I don’t like mono canvas and I rarely carry totes.

• LV Petit Metis - Totally got caught up in the hype. Didn’t buy because I don’t like mono canvas or small / medium bags with divided sections.

• Givenchy Antigona - It’s too bulky and heavy for me. Plus, I worry that even if I got a mini now, I’m late on the trend and it would read dated in a couple years. (The Kardashian effect. Ugh!)

Polene Numero Un - Such a unique bag! But, I read the leather is fairly stiff - not thick and chewy as I’d want for this bag.

MCM Milla - This looks like a good work bag. But, I couldn’t get over the fabric two toned striped strap.

Gucci velvet anything - Lordie, I swoon when I see these bags. The color saturation is sublime. But, the velvet is just too likely to get stained / look word & matted over time. So I adore them from afar.

And, the one bag I never even liked but obsessed over whether I should buy because I can be kooky:

Hermes Birkin - I almost got caught up in tPF hype and seriously considered getting one because I thought I “needed” at least one in my collection. Uh...nope. I don’t even like the look of the bag.

Years ago I was obsessing over a Mulberry Bayswater. After several months of obsessing Mulberry abruptly jacked up the price by 40 percent, stopped making them in Britain, shifting the manufacturing to Morocco, and the quality took a dive. I said you know my obsessing over this bag was silly and I'm just going to stop it. Bought a vintage Coach on ebay and moved on with my life.
