What Do You Think of the Larger Fobs and Charms?

...I own lots of silver hardware purse charms and have mostly gold hardware Coach bags. What I really need to do is find the perfect Coach satchel with silver hardware to use with the charms I have, not buy more. But I want that bee! Let's see how long I can last. (I prefer not to mix the hardware colours but clearly, I'm just going to have to get over it).

I usually match the hardware on the bag with the hardware on the fob too, but sometimes that's not easy. There are not many rosegold hardware charms and and I don't have many dark gunmetal charms either.

If I decide that the fob really goes well with the bag then I usually don't mind about the color of the hardware. Here's an example, I think that the Shells Fob 92910 looks fabulous with my Parker Hippie 13420 RIGSN in khaki/sand op art sig even though that bag has rosegold hardware and the fob has silver hardware.

katev, this is one of the prettiest combinations I've seen posted here! I think the rose/bronze of the little shell ties the rose gold hardware and the sand coloured fabric together. I love the beautiful signature fabric. I know what you mean, in that sometimes there's a certain fob that just seems destined for a bag, even if the hardware doesn't match. For me, that's my croc embossed black Sophia with dark nickel hardware and my pave double star purse charm with silver hardware. I like the "rocker" feel of the two together. My nickname for this bag is "rock and roll Sophia."

Incidentally, when I was in Coach yesterday I asked about the black tearose purse charm and indeed, it is still available for order (thank you for the information). I was considering it for croc embossed Sophia. But it costs even more than the bee! :wtf: Now I'm thinking the black tearose clutch I bought is a pretty awesome deal! And Sophia is just a going to have to live with her star charm.

I told my lovely SA I would have to think about it.

Thank you! The rosegold/khaki/sand Parker Hippie was my very first Coach bag and I still love it - and the shells fob is the perfect match IMO.

I know what you mean about the $145 pricetag on the willow floral fob. I got mine with PCE but it was still expensive, but I am glad that I got it, and somebody on ebay just bought one for $210 plus shipping!

These charms are getting crazy expensive!

I bought a large MFF fob, but it's so much more loud and jingley jangley than I had considered! I'm not sure I can deal with it, but I love how it looks with my wristlet. Can anyone help me with their opinions?

The colors do look nice with your bag but it is very large. I ordered the green version of your charm and I returned it because it was just so big, bulky, clunky and overpowering IMO. I like the fob to be an accent, not the main event.

I think this pairing works really well! The proportions of the larger charm against the small bag looks more fashion-forward, especially since the charm matches 100% perfectly with the bag. It might look odd if it were a "mismatched" combination, but that's not the case.

Regarding the jingle issue, do you have any pieces of leather or cord in a coordinating colour that you could thread through the chain to mute the sound?

There are a couple of things you can do if you don't mind altering your charm. The first thing is to remove the keyring, that is one less thing to jingle and really isn't much of an alteration. Then, to shorten the charm and to lessen the jingle a bit more, you can open up the top link (use needle nose pliers on the inside of the link) and remove the dog leash clip. Then add a smaller clip of your choice or a short ball chain to attach it to the bag. To close the link, use pliers that have a rubber coating on the teeth or put a piece of cloth or paper towel on the link to protect it from scratches....if you are even worried about a small scratch or two.

I keep reading about charms falling off the fobs! And now Ledobe's new Baseman charm has fallen off and disappeared the first time she carried it! I'm not going to risk losing my special and very expensive grey birch willow floral fob so I've added a gunmetal ball chain as a guard chain (looped through the fob and around one of the strap rings on the side of the bag). It's not perfect protection because some of the flowers could still get ripped off but at least it provides some extra security.

I hadn't heard Ledobe lost her Baseman charm. That is terrible. Sometimes I'm so worried I'll lose a fob or hangtag that I'm constantly checking. It spoils the fun of having the charm in the first place. If I know the charm is going to stay on the bag, like the feather on my Dakotah, I use strong thread strung through the rings. It isn't noticeable and it makes me feel more secure.

Another good idea, thanks!

Here's the thread about Ledobe's baseman fob.

It's always been distressing to lose a charm, fob, or hangtag - but now that they are getting so intricate and expensive - it's really distressing!

When I clean and condition a bag before putting it back into storage I usually give the latch on ball chains a gentle squeeze with a needle-nosed pliers to make them more secure. I don't know if it makes a difference but it makes me feel a little better.

Right now I am sitting here playing with my gunmetal terrier fob F62436 GUN; it's just an inexpensive MFF fob that I picked up at the outlet some time ago - but it's darn cute and I would be very sad to lose it!

When you get a chance would you post a picture of the use of strong thread to help secure a fob? Since yellowbernie experienced rubbing damage to the black hardware on her willow floral fob, I should take care to avoid similar damage to mine, and soft thread might be a good choice. Thanks!
