What do you think are the basic essential pieces every woman should have?

My list: Diamonds studs, hoops & dangles, e-ring and wedding band, right hand ring, pearl earrings, gold hoops, tennis & bangle bracelet, pendant, and a classic watch.

I don't believe in "essential" pieces. Everyone's style is different and everyone has their own different staples.

Excellent sentiments from CC and ExotiKitten. There are abstract essentials, and then there are my essentials. So, in the abstract, I'd say ....

- diamond studs
- hoops, whether they be plain metal or begemmed
- an everyday pendant: would bet for most women, that's either a round solitaire or a religious symbol
- a classic timepiece
... and everything else is variable, because some people aren't married, some people hate having things on their hands, rings or bracelets, etc. (I know this can also be true of earrings and necklaces, but curiously enough, it's the hands that I see most frequently).

But for me?
- the studs are a line of graduated bezels climbing my ears going from white gold to yellow gold to rose gold, so I always match
- no hoops, because on the occasions that I don't wear my studs, I dip into my extensive collection of chandelier earrings, which, yes, I consider absolutely essential
- a chunky bezeled pear diamond on a chain about twice as long as most ladies wear, because it's more important to me to be able to see it and play with it than it is to have it, like, set off my collarbone or whatever ...
- as yet, no classic timepiece, though I'm anticipating one eagerly: instead I wear a chunky black leather watch with spikes, or a rhinestone vintage piece
- and enough rings that I could give a brass-knuckle fighter a run for his money.

I mean, I think the underlying concept of "essentials" is the stuff that you consider to be the building-blocks of your wardrobe, the stuff that's so central to your identity that you can't really conceive of anybody else being so different as to not start from that same baseline. Lots of revealing assumptions there ....

Just wondering what you all think are must haves for the basis of a great collection.

Here's my current thoughts:

- Diamond studs, diamond solitaire pendant;
- Pearl studs and strand
- a delicate gold necklace and bracelet
- a delicate silver (or other white metal) necklace and bracelet

Everything else is just adding on to the basics.

What do you all think?

I think all the jewelry are essential for women, because jewelry is important for women, no women can reject jewelry,so, jewelry should be a part of body of a woman.

I know plenty of women who want nothing to do with jewelry. Somehow, I envy them!!

Sometimes I think I'd go mad if I lost my everyday pieces. My chainmaille toggle my uncle had someone make for me almost 7 years ago after my cousin passed away and my claddagh ring I've been wearing for ten years... and my turquoise studs which were the first piece of jewelry my BF bought me about a month into dating <3 I don't care if the studs don't match anything, I have a hard time taking them off.

When I was younger my dream ideal jewellery collection was:-

Diamond solitaire engagement ring
Traditional plain wedding band
Diamond dress ring for other hand
Solitaire diamond necklace
1 carat diamond studs
Rolex dress watch
Diamond tennis / line bracelet
Pearl necklace
Pearl studs

I have since added to this but this was my dream woman's accessories at the time :smile1:

My staple pieces or basics include- my wedding set- platinum and diamond trilogy ring, platinum wedding ring and platinum and diamond eternity ring. Platinum and diamond studs which I never take out. I have an omega constellation in SS that I wear as an evening watch and an oversized citizen watch for every day wear.

Every woman is different, so I wouldn't say every woman "should have" anything, however I think watches are very important pieces to have on everyone, so maybe that for everyone, not just women.

I think it is nice to have classic pieces that will take you through every stage of life and be appropriate for different business and social settings. For me this means:

A pair of diamond studs
Pearl earrings
A strand of good pearls
A good watch for every day
A dress watch
Gold bangles
Gold hoops
An engagement and wedding ring

As we get older and more established there are more things that we can add, but these are the first things I feel one should have.

This is such an interesting thread. When I think essentials, I don't think must-have... I think classic... in the sense that most women would do well to have them. Like nice earrings: diamond or pearl studs.. or other earrings with simple lines, nothing loud or dated or flashy or "edgy". Maybe a necklace, a nice bracelet, a ring if she's ring person. Maybe a simple stealth watch... leather or metal strap with a simple dial.

For me, I don't do watches, but I wouldn't turn one down if it were free. lol

I definitely think there are pieces that everyone should have...

Simple pearls, or multistrands..

Simple bangles (Hermes ones do nicely)

A nice multipurpose watch (and if you have the money, something fancier)

Diamonds (a few at least)... ring, earrings, at least.

A nice LONG necklace....

Something in white gold or silver and something in gold.... for variety and different outfits...

Some nice colored stones (preferably sets)... but if not, whatever.. just to give more variety.

REAL gems.. they don't even have to be super expensive... just real.. (remember that genuine stones give off vibrations or "waves" that are beneficial to our health. :)

:smile1:

These pieces are essentials in my book and will carry most women through many occasions.
1. Diamond studs
2. Cartier watch (or another timeless watchmaker)
3. Pearl earrings
4. Hermès or Cartier bangle
5. A statement piece (earrings, ring, or necklace)

And once you have acquired the first five...
6. Pearl necklace
7. Chanel or Hermès cuff
8. Birthstone ring (I love Tiffany Sparklers)
9. A second classic watch (with leather strap if first had metal bracelet and vice versa)
10. A silver piece or set (Tiffany, David Yurman, whatever suits your fancy)
