What do you think are the basic essential pieces every woman should have?

Hee hee, I like reading everyone's list and thinking, "wheew, I'm (mostly) covered!"

But, if I were to go back and look at the earlier years while under a student budget and taking basic to mean absolute minimum must have I think the basics any woman should have are:

- a classic timepiece.
- a bracelet (to balance the timepiece and be a sparkle when you greet others)
- simple hoop earrings (gold or silver, they go casual and dressup nicely, and let you answer the phone without punching a hole through your head)
- a necklace (whether it is an heirloom or newly acquired, something to wear daily)

Hmmmm... let me see... I think it would depend on whether or not you're married. My MOST essential pieces are: my engagement ring and wedding band, birth stone and diamond pave right hand ring, classic studs (diamond, and pearl), classic hoops (gold, and diamond), a basic necklace (my favorite is my baguette and round diamond cross, pearls [I like LONG pearls b/c they have more versatility]), and a watch (casual, and dress)... In that order.

A pearl necklace, some 'fun' jewelry, a fabulous pair of dangly earrings, a special piece (from a significant other, family member, or friend -- something meaningful), and a ring you bought for yourself :)

Diamond studs
Diamond tennis bracelet
Diamond solitaire pendant/necklace
Diamond hoop earrings/huggies
Gold watch
Strand of good pearls
Diamond cross
At least one good diamond ring that can become your signature piece

*strand of pearls and pearl stud earrings
*diamond tennis bracelet
*diamond stud earrings
*diamond hoop earrings
*diamond by the yard necklace
*diamond layering necklaces with symbols (circle/butterfly/heart/teardrop)
*chunky gold bracelet
*chunky white metal bracelet and necklace

*a statement ring in your favorite color and metal

1. diamond or cz stud earrings (you don't have to spend a fortune)
2. a 36" strand of pearls (to layer or wear opera-length)
3. a right-hand ring (silver or gold, diamond or gemstone, all depending on taste)
4. a nice, versatile watch

that and whatever your heart desires and your budget can handle

1. Patek Philippe watch (an absolute essential)
2. Full diamond eternity band either from Harry Winston or Cartier
3. Tiffany Diamond by the Yard necklace or diamond solitaire pendant necklace
4. Simple diamond studs or huggies from Cartier.

I get quite bored by very basic items.

My list of my own essentials (I do have many unique statement pieces, but these are the basics I go to often)

A gold ring with a big labradorite stone I picked up in Paris
Thin diamond band ring

Gold dangly earrings with yellow stones at the end (chandelier style)
Antique style silver dangly earrings with filigree design at end
Small gold ball studs from Portugal
Big CZ studs with unique design from India

16" gold snake chain
Gold pendant from Portugal with ruby

Gold Indian bracelets with quartz crystals
Thin silver cuff bracelet from Mexico.

I go for more exotic pieces, so I don't have very many basics. I love my jewelry, and none of it was very expensive. They are, however, good quality pieces, unique, and very beautiful, and make a small statement to my outfits.

But here's a list of items I think would be essential that really could match anything:

Silver dangle earrings
Gold dangle earrings
Diamond earrings (small or stud)
Silver and gold choker necklaces
Silver and gold medium necklaces with pendants
Silver and gold long necklaces with pendants
A cuff bracelet
A regular bracelet in silver, gold, or diamond
A diamond ring
A gold or silver ring
And at least one unique statement piece in each category :)

Last week, I decided to go through all of my jewelry and literally put aside things that I haven't worn, need to wear, need to sell, and/or need to donate. It got me to thinking....
What are your staple pieces? What do you wear everyday, and/or what do you use for special occasions?
