I know I started out asking about canvas, but when I tried on the DE, I just couldn't warm up to it. Strangely, inexplicably, I liked the monogram on me more. :confused1: And I do love the look of a well-patina'd speedy, but am still warming up the the mono canvas thing. Still not sure it's right for me, but we'll see.

This speedy, OTOH, I loved right away. I've always liked the feel of Empreinte leather but was again hung up on the monogram. I really like this new version, that still has mono but less of it, and I LOVE the outside pocket. Tried it on last week and again today, and home it came. I'm going to see how this size (the 25) works, and then if I need more room, I'll revisit the canvas options again in a 30.

Thanks to everyone for chiming in -- I always preach the idea of buying what you love and will used regardless of brand -- just needed a reminder of it myself! And keep the comments coming -- I find all of your insights really interesting and helpful!

This bag is beautiful! It really is!!
Gives me a totally different view about Louis Vuitton as in there is a lot of variation keeping with the aesthetic of the line. It has a history and that is something I find appealing about any brand

Thank you so much! There is a huge variety of LV bag styles, much more than H. I kind of knew this already but going to the boutique, you really see it. I think part of their marketing is to truly have something that will appeal to every customer.

I want to be sure I got this right ...

The Empreinte (25) in the pic is what you brought home??
If it is, it should fit a variety of uses. The monogram (30) in this style seems more casual to me. You will consider it for a future buy?
That bag is very nice looking on you also
If yes, I agree.
Is that right?[emoji6]

I also think if the bag looks right & feels good wearing, it will be flattering, regardless of brand (as you wrote).
I bought a Madewell Transport Tote about a year ago, (I think) to see if I liked the color at a price much lower than LV & Hermes and received a lot of compliments when I wore it

Yes, you got it right! I bought the Empreinte, plan to use it all the time, and tried on the mono 30 to consider for later, if I want more room and a canvas option.

I totally agree that if you love a bag and feel good wearing it, it will look good on. I'm at the point where I don't "need" any more bags, so when I do buy, I want to make sure the bag works for me and feels comfy. No more bags that need to be babied or are awkward to carry. Now, I only want to spend on bags that look good and feel effortless.

Thank you, yes, I do feel fortunate! I limit my choices to the pre-loved, vintage market because I just can't bring myself to pay full price in the boutique. Maybe if I make it to Paris one day, but in the US, no. Like some of you said, I'd be too afraid something would happen to the bag. Not that the vintages were cheap, but they were considerably less, and already have a little wear on them, which makes me relax a bit.

It's not just the price ... some vintage bags have a different look than recent ones and are at least as beautiful. I did not think I would consider a vintage bag a few years ago but I saw a Kelly that appealed to me. So I bought it & my husband thinks it's the nicest bag I own & belongs in a museum.
It cost less than my recent Kelly & as you commented, not cheap.

p.s. I thought about getting a Transport tote too (or one of the Cuyana ones) when I wanted to try out a less expensive alternative to the Double Sens. Ultimately didn't because I realized the DS was too big and unstructured for me, Did you keep the Transport tote, and/or get a similar H or LV bag?

I've had quite a bit of LV bags in the past during MJ's tenure but now I've sold all of them.

The only LV products that I have left are my monogram luggage pieces and my speedy 35 in monogram.
I find the luggage pieces to be exceptional quality and really durable.

I like the DS though the lack of structure is my reservation at this time for buying one also.
I kept the Transport tote but have not used it in a long time. The reason I bought the tote was I wanted a Vache Naturelle H Dalvy that I ultimately bought. I wanted to be sure the color appealed to me. I also thought might be good for future Hermes bags in that color. I like VN a lot as well as Barenia

Wow, a Vache Naturelle Dalvy! That must be one beautiful bag!

OK, so this is a totally first-world dilemma ...

I've never been a huge fan of LV because of the prominent logo and ubiquitous nature of some of their bags (literally, you can't walk through Boston on any given day without seeing a Neverfull ... or eight). I can appreciate why some people love them but have never felt the appeal. Part of it is, when LV logo-mania was at its height several years ago, I saw too many women carrying LV bags with a sort of superior attitude (not that most LV lovers are like this, but it's what I saw in the location I lived in at the time and it was a huge turn-off).

However, this is the second autumn in a row that I have felt myself strangely drawn to buying a Speedy B. Fall/winter is coming, and I'm feeling a definite itch for a higher-end bag that zips shut and is weather proof. I'm pretty sure the style will work for me as I have a couple of Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir bags that are essentially the same thing -- a zipped duffle with a cross-body strap. Longchamp is great but it isn't giving me the luxe feeling I'm craving. Basically, I want an easy-to-use, all-weather bag that still feels high-end. In that way, the Speedy B feels like the bag that should fill that void. As much as I love and use my H bags, I know that when it's sleeting in January, I'm going to be looking for a different option,

BUT .... -- and so many of you can probably relate to this -- another part of my brain is screaming, "But it's not H! And for that price, I could put that money toward another H bag -- or buy a new CSGM!"

So, I'm looking for some discussion to help focus my ping-pong-ing brain! :panic: Do you ladies have this bag? (I'm looking specifically at the Speedy B30 in Damier Ebene.) Do you find it goes against the H-fanatic's love of understated, non-logo'd elegance? Or does it simply fill one of those slots in a collection that H doesn't fill (I see my Chanel flaps as fitting in this category).

Would love any and all thoughts. Thanks!

I have a speedy 25 in Emprinte leather in dark navy (the colour is discontinued), and love it!!! and i bring it out to places that I don't want to worry about the climate changes or people sneering at my H bags!

It is beautiful to me and took a while to find one in good condition with shw.
I'm thinking your Kelly's too were not immediate acquisitions. I love Box, especially red, and Barenia (I'm still looking for one).
Though I have new & preloved Hermes, the older ones have a lot of appeal to me because of leathers & styles that may not be in production at this time or anymore.
It has only been 3-4 years since I began collecting Hermes. I still feel I have a lot to learn about the line. I only know the basics & what I like.

To keep with the topic, I think I need to further educate myself about Louis Vuitton. Many styles have been added I know little about.
