I really like bags where I can just sling them over my shoulder without the extra strap, so this is going to be seriously tempting. I'm hoping the new Turquoise will just knock my socks off, so maybe that will be a Work!

I noticed that when I tried on a vert thyme SGH work at barney's recently it fit over my winter jacket. My initial reaction at that time was the handles on this bag is probably defected b/c GH work from previous season never fit over my coat before. If all the works have longer handles now...this would not be good for my wallet since the handles held me back from purchasing before.

I've been wanting a work for some time. The city is just too small for my everyday needs and I'm tired of the Day. Well I read on the board that the weekender handles were longer so I went to NM and tried on the new 08 works and THEY ARE at least 2 inches longer. I was able to fit the work over my shoulder with a puffy down coat on. Now If I can only find an 08 black with nice chewy leather.

Hope this may help anyone who was in the same boat as me.

handle length: 15 in / 38.1 cm
handle drop: 5 in. / 12.7 cm

07 S/S and older—White, Vert Deau
handle length: 13 in / 33 cm
handle drop: 4.5 in / 11.4 cm

The difference in the handle drop is only about 0.5 of an inch. Is this significant for people who don't really have much use for thick winter coats? I'm just curious because I just bought a white work from AR and from the measurements that Z&J posted (thanks Z&J! ), it's a S/S model. I like to have the option of wearing my bag over my shoulder so I might have to return it and get a 07 F/W or 08 S/S one from somewhere else. Does anyone have works with both the longer and shorter handles? How do they compare? Thanks!

An SA at Saks told me that the 2008 Work bags will have longer handles. Is this true? Any one else hear anything?

It can if you have slim shoulders and arms It will probably be a little uncomfortable though because the bag is going to be rubbing right against your 'pits.

i have chicken arms and i can put the city's handles on my shoulders. it's pretty comfortable if the bag isnt very full b/c then you can press it against your body... if it's full then it's not going to be comfortable. also one handle usually ends up sliding off unless you hold it there.

i dont usually carry my cities with the handles on my shoulders. if you want a bag to do that with then a day or brief would be more comfortable IMO.

I try that but agree that the one outer handle keeps slipping down..are you asking because you don't like the longer strap?

I tried my City last night with the carry handles. It goes over but only just. I'm a slim build, 5 foot seven. But funnily enough, when I use the detachable strap, the bag feels as light as a feather. I enjoy my City with the carry handle, as it's a lovely 'crook-of-the-arm' bag. If I need hands free I can use the shoulder strap. Also, I'd like a teal (Bal) Messenger for summer!
