I'm a shoulder bag kind of person and already know that Day bags will comprise most of my collection...but I lurve how the Firsts look. Does anyone carry their First bags exclusively as a shoulder bag using the longer strap? How does this wear on the bag? Sorry if this is answered elsewhere....I'm still reading through all the great info in this forum.

TIA!

I almost always wear my lilac first by the shoulder strap. She's relatively new to me, but was worn that way by her previous owner as well and appears no worse for the wear because of it! I love how it looks broken in!

I almost always wear my firsts on my shoulder with the longer strap. I prefer to have my hands free. I have not noticed any excessive wear due to the shoulder strap usage.

I do find that the strap tends to slip off my shoulder sometimes as I think the strap protector (or whatever that wider bit of leather that's attached to the strap is called) is too wide. I'd take it off but it seems like it'd be a pain to do, though others in the forum have done it. I just slide mine back as far as it will go and that helps.

Get a first! One of my favorite parts about the first is that it looks great worn with the should strap OR handheld (or even with the handles over the shoulder)!

I wear mine also with the longer shoulder strap 50% of the time.. .the other 50% I usually hand carry it. It looks ok to me.. and I haven't noticed any additional wear to it. It's actually become one of favorite everyday on-the-go bags. ;)

I do exact the same thing with mine. My sister makes fun of me with the wide part looking like a duck. I would've try to get the wide off, but i'm afraid of ripping it off by accident :(

I too almost always use my first with the shoulder strap, but NOT with the shoulder pad thingie, I hate how it looks and feels on my shoulder. I find it stays on much much better with just the strap and not the pad.

i love the shape of this style. i'm usually a handsfree person but i find myself hooking the handles in the crook of my arm or hand carrying it since it's almost weightless even when filled. i would love a longer shoulder strap. i might soon remove the strap one day. now i just wonder how does one *break in* the handles on a First.. put a brick inside it?

I use the strap A LOT. And I slide the "thingie" back as well - but I like the way it looks, so I don't take it off (although it's not as much of a pain as it might seem - a bit of wiggling, and it's off ;))

The upside of using the strap is that handles stay looking pristine. If I use the handles, I position it in the crook of my arm.

I took off my 'thingy' the other night and then quickly put it back on - even though it seems annoying, I didn't like the feel of the strap (or the look) without the thingy! Alot of jiggling and pushing for nuthin! But it can be done!

I am looking for a good work bag but was looking for something that I can carry in hand. I just bought a step and love it but am looking for something that I can take a bit more in such as some files and a water bottle. Something as a large purse type carry on.
Is this a good choice?
