Hello, I searched for this topic in the forum, but somehow I could not find an answer. I was wondering what would be the lightest leather vs. the heaviest leather in a Birkin 35. I am considering a lightweight Birkin, and I understand some leathers are quite heavier. Thank you for your knowledge:smile1:

Just got the weight of 35 black trekking added to the list below:

35 Vache Liegee: 2 lbs. 12.0 ounces - I or J stamp
35 Clemence: 2 lbs. 11.2 ounces - K or L stamp
35 Clemence: 2 lbs. 9.7 ounces - K or L Stamp
35 Togo: 2 lbs. 8.3 ounces - M Stamp
35 CDC: 2 lbs. 2.9 ounces - F Stamp
35 Vache Trekking: 3 lbs. 1 ounce---O Stamp

Wow, tks for info. I found the 35 Clemence already weighed significantly heavier than a Togo when I carried them empty, can't imagine Vache Trekking is even heavier!

Speaking from personal experience the weight of a Birkin has become a bit of a moot point to me. I have a 35cm in Epsom (which is considered one of the lightest) and a 35cm in Clemence (one of the heaviest) and in all honesty what you carry in your bag totally negates the odd ounce difference between the leathers. Yes the birkins can get heavy, but mostly because of their load. I have carried a 30cm Birkin in Box leather too which felt heavier to me than the 35cm, because of it's contents. The only area with this is an exception is the 40cm, which is generally a heavy bag in whatever leather mainly because of the reinforced bottom. Buy the bag in the leather you love. Just my $0.02.

ITA. It never made sense to me to buy one leather over the other because of a few ounces. My bag is fine empty, but it seems to get heavy pretty quickly after the wallet, notebook, a few SLGs, big sunglass case, water bottle...

Agree!

A while back, there was a discussion on this topic and someone proposed making a chart. Today, a lovely tPF member asked my opinion on the difference in weight between an older clemence and box 35 Birkin. I decided to find out. The results were unexpected and interesting (I thought) so for anyone who is interested...here are weights in grams, of various 35 Birkins, heaviest first...

Clemence range: 1209 - 1271 g (the heaviest one is from 2006)
Togo 1122
Barenia (2003) 1120
Ostrich 1106
Crinolin/Barenia 1058
Box (2007) 1049

That's right...box is the lightest. Lighter than the crinolin/barenia combo, which is lined in fabric.

So, if anyone was looking for an excuse to get box...!
Thanks for this helpful info.
