A friend of mine put her summer patchwork bag in the washer, and it died a very quick death. I'm guessing she just threw it in and then dried it. It's kind of wrinkly now and lost most of its shape. It looks horrible. If only she would have spent the $$ at the dry cleaners first.

I know this is a pretty old thread...but I did it. I put my black signature Julianne in the washer.

The Julianne had belonged to my niece. I bought it off her pretty cheap - she just wanted rid of it because an a-hole ex-boyfriend had bought it for her. Anyway, she was pretty rough with it and the lining was dirty and there were some spots on the very bottom I couldn't get out. So I figured what the heck!

I put it inside a zippered pillow case - I thought that would protect the hardware and medallion the best. I have a front loading washer and I put it in with some sheets for cushion. Gentle cycle, lowest spin setting.

It came out perfect. I stuffed a clean white towel inside it and let it dry. Still have a small spot on the bottom, but other than that, it looks great!

I wouldn't make a habit of it, but I wouldn't be afraid to do it again. :smile1:

i was thinking about throwing my lilac sig sabrina in a pillow case or the dust bag also in the washer. But i am to scared i think. what if i gave her a bath in the sink or tub?? lol

have u done it with signature bags?? what kind if detergent should i use?

I have done it with a signature tote. Now, mind you sometimes it "softens" the stamping on the creed, but the bag I had was very dirty, and it came out beautifully.

I used a non-scented detergent and cold water and the most gentle cycle.

I'm not advocating this for anyone else, but it's worked out fine for me.

Did you put it inside a lingerie bag or pillowcase? Or just throw it in? I really think the spots on the bottom of mine would have come out if it had been more exposed to the wash than it was inside the pillowcase.

I just threw it in, I also had my leather Soho hobo and a Hamptons weekender tote in there at the same time. All came out fine.

There are dry cleaners that specialize in cleaning bags.

But if one didn't want to do that, try washing the (fabric) bag in the kitchen sink. There's nothing that the washer does that can't be done by hand in the sink much more gently. Just take your time, let the dirt soak out, scrub gently if necessary, and rinse well.
Air dry, maybe stuffing the bag with a towel when it's almost dry to regain it's shape.

The washing machine could be a little rough on a bag with the washing (abrasion,) and especially in the spin cycle with the force pushing the bag against the outside of the tub.

I've mainly been a lurker here but was curious about your fabric coach bags with leather trim. My friends said that she and her mother washed their coach signature bags (jacquard fabric) in the washing machine on gentle cycle and air dried outside for a few days under the sun. They said it did not ruin the bag, I did see their bags after their "wash" and it seemed to look in tact but would personally I'd be afraid to wash any future Coach bags (planning on Legacy Stripe).
Has anyone here done this and what were your results?
TIA!
Hi,
I am glad your bag came clean and had no problems with air drying!!! I wouldn't wash mine because I just know something bad would happen!!! I will have to try spot cleaning!
Thanks for the thread!
