Hi all , I just found this thread .. Im soo new to this vintage LV world and suddenly I found an excitement to dig the vintage world ( okay , I admit..I loveeee watching YT LV restoration videos :biggrin:) I was a bit of tired atm chasing new items , stalking the website and bugging my CS every second day asking for stocks
So long story short , I just got TP26 from the late 70’s and Compeigne from late 80’s from a local shop for no money ( I spent both total little over €120. I plan to restore them to its glory..(crossed fingers I dont screw it up!:biggrin:) to kill my dissapointment of not getting the new items I want and planned travel cancellation:sad::sad:
Any of you have done some DIY restoration ? The TP26 looks great but dirty..The compeigne on the other hand is really bad shape :biggrin:
Or is there any DIY restoration thread here ?
Theres lots of tips in the rescue club, I recommend doing a search for the piece or ‘vachetta‘ or ‘canvas’ along with the word clean/condition etc. I have restored a few pieces myself using info there.

She is in worst shape than I thought .. But so happy that she finds new home . Spent whole afternoon cleaned her up while on Teams meeting (luckily no camera on for this meeting)
Next plan is dyed her vachetta with filler , and add some rivet studs to make her Trocadero wanne be :smile::heart::heart:9814F170-B1F7-4AC0-B626-83901F7BE18D.jpegFDD6C8CC-07A0-43CA-A6AE-5C768A10DD91.jpeg

Dear vintage LV lovers, I kindly ask for your help and advice how to salvage my vintage vachetta. I purchased a vintage cosmetic pouch off Ebay, it was in amazing condition (except a horror interior - as expected). I believe the pouch was never used, the vachetta was in pristine, light honey color - and I ruined it while cleaning the interior
So I took pretty conservative approach (so I thought ), I only used water based baby wipes. Firstly, I wiped the exterior and leather very gently, let it dry, then applied Apple leather conditioner to the vachetta pulls to give it some protection (I treat my other LV bags with Apple without any issues). Then I started removing the lining by rubbing the baby wipes, as I was too afraid to use anything harsher. Long story short, after many long hours of cleaning the lining had been removed, but the leather tabs got wet. I used another clean wipe to wiped it and just even it out, but when I checked on my pouch today I almost got a heart attack. The leather pulls look like someone was burning them, edges almost black Is there any way to restore the leather? I dabbed little bit of Apple cleaner to soften it up a bit, but I’m afraid to touch it. It’s just so heartbreaking to see this beautiful pouch like that, will that be the first LV thing that I ruined completely? Any advice or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Am so sorry, but am afraid there is nothing you could do once the water get to the vachetta, unless you replace or paint it. I have a vintage Neo drawstring shoulder bag that I brought from Ebay 2 months ago. Long story short, I did the same thing as you... hahhhaahah.. I turned the bag inside out to clean the inside, well, I didn't see the water get in the vachetta, once the inside dried up, the outside vachetta looks like your, except my is a lot more. I'm not sure what to do with it yet. I try to re-clean with Saddle Soap, but no luck. I wish you luck though and please share if you find a way to fix it.

Not sure if there is any Saumur fans out there. She is from 2003. I am her first owner and I have her with me for over 17 years. Just dug her out lately and still found her very versatile and easy to match with. Her only issue is there are tiny grey dots on the leather part which I don’t think they can be removed...?

Im a fan for Saumur also!  Mine is over 20yo and I inherited it form my late mother so its very special to me  For the dots, have u tried to clean it with baby wipes or saddle soap ? it could be only stain on the surface so try with the baby wipes first ?
