My sister gave me her Speedy25, date code is 1987. It’s in great condition since she hardly used it. Does anyone know if the vintage Speedys came with a long strap? I can’t remember, but I thought it had a strap? Anyone who has a classic Speedy use a strap? I’d like to use this bag, but don’t think I would carry it just with the handles. I need my hands free!

I use a strap occasionally with my speedy 30.

They don’t come with a strap but you can attach one. I very occasionally use my speedy 30 with a strap but rarely and when it’s not full. There used to be stories here of people using it this way and having strain causing the bag to break, it was rare though.

I was thinking of getting a classic speedy , but was wondering how it holds up with the added strap.
I used a strap with my classic 30 over Christmas break in NYC. It worked out great. I stuffed that thing to the brim and had no issues. I remember sorority sisters of mine carrying the speedy with a strap all the time back in the early 80's! I'm at the point now that when I'm in the mood for my speedy I just hand carry. I use other bags (petit noe, sac shopping tote, bucket bag-all vintage) when I need to be hands free. I love the classic speedy without the side stripes. :)

Thank you! I have my Speedy mono B 25, but that strip of leather down the side annoys me:)

I just think since I have straps on every bag that I’d need it at certain times, but wasn’t sure if the hardware would get damaged, or the chap rip eventually. I wear my bags with new vachetta much less often than my vintage ones, since I feel it looks way better with dark patina:)

The speedy I use the strap with is a vintage one that I had all the vachetta replaced. I haven't noticed any wear on the hardware or pulling on the canvas. Now I have a new DE speedy that I would think twice about using a strap with because the canvas seems much thinner. I think the older bags hold up well to straps, travel, and daily abuse!

Oh that’s interesting... I was thinking about a vintage one, or even just a few years old, but I just received my vintage Bel Air and am trying to air it out due to the smell of either perfume or chemicals they use to disinfect the bag. I got it from Japan, but am slightly grossed out since I can’t clean the interior canvas:smile:.
It looks clean, but I’d still like to put something in it. Right now I have baking soda and charcoal shoe bags inside. The canvas won’t pull out- so it will take some time to air it out.
It’s such a gorgeous bag though:heart:

It looks great on you. I had a pochette accessories from Japan that smelled when I first received it. I used baking soda and scented dryer sheets to try to remove the smell. I also washed it with hand soap! After about three weeks it was finally scent free. Good luck, your bag is really cute with your outfit. Love the white boots!

Thanks so much! :)
I do not have dryer sheets, but I can get some. I don’t like to use anything scented at all.
Do you think I could use hand soap in the interior- even if it doesn’t pull out? It would be damp inside the bag, but I guess I could put it outside.
My mini Montsouris from Japan took a few months to get the scent out. But that was easy to keep open.

Is the inside canvas or leather? If it's canvas, you can wipe it down and hang it upside down on a soda or wine bottle. There are some products that remove odors that are unscented. I would look on Amazon

The inside is canvas. That is a great idea to hang it upside down! I never even thought of that.
I’m airing it outside today. I will check on Amazon. I heard of Odoban, but not sure I will like that scent.
Thank you:)

I occasionally use the vachetta strap from my Nice on my classic speedy 25 and 35 =) It's great bc it's slightly wider than the 16mm mono strap.
