No it never ends! I just bought 4 crossbody bags in all different styles. You are right, it is getting harder to find some vintage bags! Rehab is addicting and there are many rehabbers now. Any time I am browsing vintage Coach I'm running into beautifully rehabbed bags! Are we going to run out of things to rehab? Eek! [emoji51] I hope not!

Here are the ones I had just recently found. There's a red one in there. Big surprise! [emoji12][emoji38][emoji16]View attachment 4380716
Nice! I have been hunting a lunchbox. They are hard to find with the zipper pull....

I feel sort of renewed after finding a few small bags at the flea market in Sept (including the Winnie for $3) and picking up several bags for about $13 from a flea market contact in August. My plan is to hit this city flea market shortly as well as this one I haven’t been to about an hour away from my house that end ups getting vendors who typically have to old good stuff. My oldest niece and nephew are into thrifting I will get them to go with me. I haven’t been to either place in at least ten years!
Not gonna lie, going to FL tomorrow. The first thing I will do Tues is hit the GW I scored at 2 years ago!

I have bought so many vintage bags lately. I get one, then I think but I don’t have this shape or color, so I buy another one.
Then I find one in purple that needs a lot of love and I buy it to bring it back to life. Then I find a derby ( have to have a derby), then a plaza then a Bonnie Cashin double kisslock.
I have a serious problem!
Lol that sounds very familiar.

Ooh let's talk about this one! Two tone water melon tote. Pipings were obviously replaced and stitched very poorly. Before I zoomed in I was wondering why they didn't dye the kisslock leather too. Lol. Starting bid seems way too high for the quality of the work done.

Very interesting color combo. The handles look taller than mine, and those I see on ebay.

Hey Courier owners, is it common for the area where the tongue slides into the slot on the front of the bag to look torn like this? It looks the same in all 4 corners. It doesnt really look torn I guess, it looks cut, but in a way that looks like it's supposed to be that way. I just received this bag today and I was looking it over before I left feedback. My metal tag Courier is completely intact in this area so I wanted to ask about this cartouche stamped Courier. I realize they're about a decade apart in age and Coach may have changed the way they produced this part of the bag. Other than a musty smell, this bag is in great shape for being about 40 years old. And the color is breathtaking! I was hoping to not have to dunk...but a dunk will do her well.

Love that color!

I had a Courier with a creed (story patch), no serial number, so it would have been later than yours. Mine had tiny cuts in the corners of the slot too:

I had a pre-creed courier with a cartouche. It didn't have those little cuts. I also had a courier with a creed. That one had cuts in the bottom parts.
The red one is pre-creed, the orange has a NYC creed.

Note that the orange has stiffening material added to the tongue. I wonder if that contributed to the cuts.

Thank you, it's a very stunning red! I'm so excited to clean it up and use it. Very good to know that it's somewhat common on these bags to see those cuts. Did they get worse over time?

You had? Past tense? As in you got rid of those lovely bags?? I LOVE that orange one. Thank you for the info, I wonder if the stiffening material might have something to do with it? I zoomed in on all the pics of the Couriers on eBay and I saw a few there too. Whew, I'm good. Did you notice if the cuts got worse over time?

I suspect that adding "knicks" were an option left to the leatherworkers discretion when completing the foldover that's part of this tab receiver design (for when the die cutter left the edge of the tab that's to be folded under too far up the corner radius of the slot). I've a metal tag courier in mocha that shows some minor razoring in a similar location.

Regarding your "decade apart" in age estimate, I suspect that may be an exaggeration. From what I've seen, COACH metal tags were employed on pre-creed bags till 1972 or so, That method of identification was then superseded by cartouche imprints (or riveted leather cartouche tags on those styles where a "good" location for an imprint could not be identified) till the introduction of creeds in 1974 or so. So in all likelihood, your two pre-creed large courier pouches are within a few years of each other and closing in on 50-yo. Great bags and I trust that they will serve you well for many years to come.
