Not just the weight. It sticks a mile out from your body when you carry it! I can imagine bumping into everything! Then there is the fact that it is a black hole! No way can you find your things in there without dumping it out.
I've been carrying mine to the gym a lot. I put in a towel, my water bottle, wallet, pouch and phone into the little pocket. It works out great except for sometimes if I'm shopping after my workout I don't want to be carrying such a big bag. I guess I need to separate out the wallet and phone stuff into a smaller purse and carry 2 or something.. Anyway, I never bump into stuff with it! LOL

It's a Rare Bird all right, I just looked through at least a dozen late 80s-early 90s catalogs including reading every Duffle Sac listing to see if there was any mention of an available Spectator version that hadn't included a photo, but no luck.

If anyone has any info on the style number (6085 would be my guess but sometimes they varied from the standard numbering) or when it was made, I hope they'll post. Meanwhile, maybe someone here will spot another one.

BTW, I appreciate what you said about not liking black bags. When I lived at home my mom always bought my purses, 1 black one for school and a beige one for church, and by the time I started working and doing my own shopping I was so bloody tired of black bags that I never wanted to see another one. Even the very few I've bought since then just end up in the back of the closet. The more colors I have, the better. Gimme red, gimme purple, gimme electric blue, gimme mad colors in crazy patterns - just NO black!
I went through my little hodge podge of catalogue pics and didn’t find any. It’s seems from the photos I have that Coach did offer quite a few styles with the spectator style contrast edging sourced to ‘89 and ‘90. A lot more styles than I thought, as I went thru them. But not a classic Duffle pic to be found! Who knows how many goodies there are out there, that were just a limited run, with no paper trail!! Oh to be part of the meeting where somebody said, Yeah, go ahead and make xxx of these.;)

I agree with you! I've never been one who is able to pull off black bags. I really like red and British Tan - my all-time favorite Coach colors. Taupe and putty aren't bad either. I just acquired a red Original Rambler, and I'm in love with it!! Now I have one in both BT and red!

I’m not really drawn to the original Rambler, but BT is my weakness :girlsigh:

That’s why I like the Sling bag. The way the strap is oriented the bag is more or less on its side when you carry it and if I put it on my shoulder, it hugs my body. I use it more for short trips/errands. But since mine has a few spots that didn’t come out, I use it as work horse/travel bag. It fits perfectly under an airline seat. Lol, it had a well documented trip to FL last year.

The discussion about black bags got me thinking. I don't do black either, all my bags are tan except for one that's blue. Maybe I "need" a black bag? A small one, in perfect condition. Like this adorable Cafe Bag #4111 (image harvested online many moons ago):

ETA: One problem with black is that it's more common to find shoe polish on black bags, and it's hard to detect that in photos. I have to keep reminding myself of this!

When I get a black bag it is usually because there is something special about it that works best in black or it is a rare style and that is the only color I could find. The last black bag I bought, I only chose black because it was the cheapest. I have a small black Sheridan drawstring that I think is adorable. Black looks cuter in a small bag. One thing that is nice about black bags is that they make a perfect backdrop for charms and scarves.

I love that bag and that bee!

It is so cute! And great fob with it!

I have a spectator version but mine doesn’t like to stay closed. :| Are there any tricks to help? I’m wondering if my leather is still on the stiffer side & needs to soften. It’s not dry, it’s just that thick leather on the Sheridans.

Mine doesn't stay closed either. That is the only thing annoying about this bag. I think if it really bothered you, you could put something like a bobby pin, paperclip or hair clip on the drawstrings at the edge of the bag but then that would make an extra step.

I know etsy shops sell sliders for LV bucket bags - perhaps you could find one for your bag on etsy as well? :flowers:

Hmm I have a similar drawstring bag, I think mine is from the lightweights line. Previous owner had the ends tied together in the front and I didn't really like that but it did stay closed.

I do wear black and gray slacks so I like having a few black bags. I have a Patti I picked up years ago at a thrift shop and she got a lot of use, before I added substantially to my collection. I have yet to touch up the edges on it, which it needs. I have a black Saddle 9988, purchased aroun 2005 and I’ll probably keep that forever. I pull out my my black Plaza for looking snappy and my black Monterey Hobo for stuffing on a small scale.
I remember seeing a black Rambler, literally 5 minutes after it was listed with a $40 bin. It was in decent shape and I thought if I want this bag, this would be the time. I just didn’t feel the urge. I went back an hour later to post it here and it was gone . . , I’m sorry if I made anyone cry!
Forgot to add quotes from @whateve and @Catbird9 regarding black bags!
