LOVE your red Rambler! Even though they never sold in the same volume as many other vintage Coach styles, to me they're just the quintessential vintage Coach.
Do you think they were too big to become popular? I think they're the perfect bag - just big enough without being a small briefcase. The only gripe is that the strap could be wider or more sturdy.

I just think the look is so classic and designed so much better than the Rambler's Legacy.

Size may have been a factor, but to me a large size and large outside pockets are a big Plus. When you're ancient and old-fashioned and still carry a checkbook and four sets of keys, you need all the room you can get. The Rambler is so much more practical than styles like the Duffle Sac - trying to find my keys buried in the bottom of one of those is like diving blindfolded into the Black Hole Of Calcutta. WE NEEDS OUTSIDE POCKETSESSS, PRECIOUSSSSS!

I agree with you! I've never been one who is able to pull off black bags. I really like red and British Tan - my all-time favorite Coach colors. Taupe and putty aren't bad either. I just acquired a red Original Rambler, and I'm in love with it!! Now I have one in both BT and red!

I have a red vintage rambler too. LOOOVE it!

And as for black bags, I am constantly buying other colored bags but I always reach for the black and curse myself for it! So often I set myself a goal to carry a different color for a week but I always ended up changing back into black.

Okay, I'm getting out my red rambler to take to work right now!

I had to choose one bag to take to Australia recently for 2 weeks. I chose my black vintage rambler because of its size. It did well. Though actually I remember on some days sight seeing it got a little heavy.

Personally I love the look of the Rambler's Legacy. I wish it was bigger though.

I gravitated more towards brown coach bags for the most part. For me it seems like I can only find the styles I like in black or brown. I really love bright color handbags that don’t match with anything I’m wearing. I love a nice bright teal green, a magenta or even a nice sunny yellow. It seems like they always put me in a better mood. Unfortunately, those colors aren’t so easy to find in the vintage styles, which is why I like the charms. They can really break up the color and help black bags look soooo much better. I don’t have any yet, but I do plan to purchase some in the near future. I learned about them here and I just think they are a pretty cool way to spice up your handbag a bit [emoji4]

I have this Spectator Duffle Sac in my possession.

I'll be DARNED. I'm gobsmacked too, now I understand how the M&M felt.

CGJames, do you have any other details? It has to be late 1980s unless it's one of those few oddball bags from 1991-92 that ended up with pre-1990 formatted serial numbers. Is the number 967-9026?

Off to look through some old catalogs...
I saw a duffle in this combo going back a little over two years ago, in a Mercari listing. I asked the seller for a pic of the Creed and she never got back to me and I forgot about it . . .

I want to see your Red Rambler!!

Your original ramblers are gorgeous.

Totally off topic, but your post made me smile. I've always purchased cars that are silver grey or beige tan because "they don't show the dirt!"

And I remember my dear Father, now passed, once surprised me by saying "Why do you always insist on buying cars that are casket-colored?!"

My current car is a gorgeous shade of Obsidian Blue and when I bought it I remember thinking "Dad, if you're watching, I know that you'll like the color of my new car!"

I started out always buying neutral bags that were black, brown, or beige - but I soon learned the joy of putting some color in my life! My teal Sydney bag was my first "colorful bag" and after buying her there was no stopping me!

What a nice story. I have always loved colorful bags. BTW - my current car is silver.

Congrats! Two very nice finds.

I think I found it - Gonna cry, they got it for $20.

Yeah , it was cheap. Sounds about right. I was interested in more for rehabbing. I don’t mean to sound cavalier, but I am probably one of three people here that can take or leave the Duffle. I was all hopped up to buy one in BT in an outlet in FL in the late 90s for about $75. But the weight of it empty stopped me in my tracks. I just passed up a black one at a thrift store recently. Still too heavy. But the Sling bag, that’s a differently story! The hardware must make a difference. So good for all you Duffle lovers, I am rooting for you.

Not just the weight. It sticks a mile out from your body when you carry it! I can imagine bumping into everything! Then there is the fact that it is a black hole! No way can you find your things in there without dumping it out.
