What do you vintage collecting ladies use as a carry on bag for a flight? I was thinking of using my Carrier but it's very pristine and I wonder if it wouldn't get ruined and not fit under the seat.. you know just overall be a bit big and a bit nice. It's also kinda heavy even when empty. I have some other options like a bit leather backpack.. again could be too big, or a zip up tote perhaps.. Any ideas?

ETA: Overhead compartment. I’ve never tried under the seat.

Somewhat distressed BT Sling bag. Carries a ton, slides under airplane seat like a dream, already has a few stains and made a great beach bag. It is surprisingly light empty.

That front pocket is essential! I don't usually carry totes except for when traveling. I have a Coach tote (China made) that I got really cheap and it already has corner wears so I don't worry much about it. Can't recall the style number right now but it's one of those that don't look any better after applying Leather CPR. Lol.

Oh yeah, now I remember, I had a travel bag. It was a Peyton saffiano tote from the outlet. That thing was indestructible. We don't fly much anymore and it was just sitting there, so I sold it.

I think I have 2 of those in the sell(git rid o’ bin) in BT and Red. Brown nylon interior, right?

That’s a Light Tote! My fav! I think it’s one of Lake Effects, too.
ETA: I love the color. I have 3, but not that one. Too bad about the zipper. Otherwise, it should dunk well and be easy enough to mask that stain.
The thin leather of the Light Tote makes it less structured. I liked the Sling as it maintained it's bucket shape.
@Belicious How about a Duffle ?

Did anyone get the newly released Canteen bags from the outlet? I was really tempted to get it in the yellow color but I didn't even have time to touch and feel or check out inside anything. I'd love to hear what y'all think of the leather of the new ones.

I think I took my duffle sac on my last trip actually. It hard to stay organized, but it was good for holding a lot in small space. You have to put up with the never ending bottom.
ETA: That trip was not flying. 5 hour drive to SE WA in a hotel for 22 nights.

Thanks for all your tips you guys. I think you confirmed my suspicions that nice vintage leather bags aren't for the plane. I think I'll go with a leather backpack that I won't be too upset if it got beat up. It does have the travel creed, claiming it's made to withstand the rigors of travel or whatever (We'll see about that!)... I would be a bit afraid to take a duffle, seems like it wouldn't fit places well.

I would've taken that big tote if the zip wasn't failing! It is a really great shape and size. Maybe I'll give it away and be on the lookout for a better condition one. I would replace the zipper if it didn't have such a big stain.

Also sharing this amazing gift on this thread!! Just a few months ago I was talking on this thread about how I wanted to have a vintage Bonnie Cashin style, and my boyfriend so very thoughtfully found this and got it for me for my birthday!! It's a 60s(?) lunch tote shopper, so cute and the leather is stunning. I love its age and history. Tomorrow I'll have to post on the rehab and rescue thread to see what I can do for it! :girlsigh::girlsigh::girlsigh:

It is! However mine is a camel color so I would be reluctant to subject it to air travel.

I ended up bringing a small VB satchel inside the Sling. That helped to stay organized with essentials.
Agree with the many posts about not wanting to travel with nicer vintage. I really like having a wide variety of vintage regarding wear. I feel like I have the perfect bag if I am dressing up, going to work, running errands or hoofing down a concourse with coffee in one hand. I have actually made decisions on what bag to use based on how it might handle being jostled, crammed somewhere or possible food/beverage spills , according to my day. I am not kidding when I say I love Coach for their vintage styles that are working breeds! :yes: Even my bags with wear and or a few stains, lol, my beater bags, still have classic style and are extremely functional.

I do have some beater bags that would be big and good for a flight but they don't zip up. I know what you mean about having a variety of bags for occasions.. I think I'm ultimately I'm going to put (way too much) thought into what I'm going to be wearing to decide what's going to look best. Also if I take something beat up on the plane then I'm not going to want to be carrying that around the whole trip so I'll be having to pack something else, probably smaller.
