Just saw this listing while browsing ebay and thought someone here might need this to round out the collection https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Original-COACH-Black-Leather-Small-Doctor-Tote-Long-Zipper-Handbag-/401542342345 Don't know if it is authentic but it is cool looking

What a silly looking bag! I'd love to see someone carrying this. I believe it is authentic but I'm surprised the tag is vertical.
Indeed, very strange proportions. I believe that it was COACH's response to the LV Papillon (barrel style) introduced in 1966. The tubular COACH design looks even more like a butterfly than the LV version when the handles are spread. And the circumferential orientation of the metal tag attached to the black thread separated striped lining agrees with the examples of this style that I've handled.

Preceding the release of this style was the much larger barrel shaped Jumbo Bag (which approached luggage size in appearance). I've been looking for a reasonably priced example of one of these for years now.

In addition, I recall there was a later unlined pre-creed (cartouche imprint period) Barrel Bag style (available in both smooth and suede) whose dimensions were somewhere in between these two. Damn if I can find a decent photo in my records though (of the green suede or a navy smooth leather ones I've seen in the past). The following photo (from a current PM listing) will have to suffice for now.

Thx. The barrel design also appears in the sketches for the leather trimmed canvas Safari Collection (which I believe was never produced, even under her own Cashin-Carry label)...

Randomly, I had a pic of the green suede on my Pinterest (if it’s the same!) IMG_1492.jpg

I love the shape and details of the Jumbo Bag, if it had a long crossbody strap it would be perfect.

Coach brought the shape back in 2001 with a limited edition style that I believe was called a Glazed Roll Tote or Satchel, style 9701, that DID come with a long strap. It's one of my favorite bags, the shape actually works well when you use full size checkbook wallets, and the leather is glazed water buffalo hide. The spruce / teal green shade even changes color a little depending on the light. It also came in a wine shade that I also own as well as British Tan and a light blue color (still looking for one of those!). No catalog pics or info, unfortunately, just one drilldown pic and a few photos off Ebay. It measures about 12x6x6 and the long strap can be worn cross-body.

OK, so they're not quite Vintage yet, but soon...

They did a few other glazed water buffalo styles at the same time that were updates of Cashin originals, like this #9704 Glazed Bonnie Tote:

I managed to find the teal one and it is gorgeous! I haven't used it yet and the leather finishing is amazing! [emoji7]
