I just saw another Dakota on eBay this morning. Coincidentally, this one has worn- through piping.

Yes, Catbird, I saw that listing, with the wear on the upper back piping. My origunal question and curiousity is was about the thinner piping on the bottom of the bag.
Thanks ladies! I am leaning towards a bone variety.
@Hyacinth I'll let you know when some seller lurking here puts Sundance in their listing ;)

Think we can convince Jed to add that name to his files? After all, how can you have a Dakota Cassidy without a Dakota Sundance?

It did take me few moments admittedly to connect the dots. B.C. and the S.K. You clever.
Btw, the seller added pics of a nice Dooney to the Sundance listing.
A few more Dakotas were listed today so I'm checking out the pics. Not in a hurry, specially since I am saving my allowance, hoping to score from someone's downsizing or estate when I go to FL next month.

Probably the seller added the pictures to the wrong listing. They have that Dooney listed separately. I sent them a message.

This was the type of piping wear I was wondering about. This is from an online listing for a Madison manufacted in '96. There are Hampton lunch totes from around 2000 I see with the same piping and wear. s-l1600.jpg

The Madisons from that era seem pretty delicate to me, as if they were designed to be carried to the opera in a limo and held demurely upon the lap throughout the evening.

I've only ever had one Dakota (a Lariat, which I no longer have) but the bottom edge piping on it looked fine, showing only slight wear at the corners. I guess it depends on how much it was used.

By the way the seller of the "Sundance" removed the Dooney pictures and there are pictures of the interior and creed which I don't recall seeing earlier.

Thanks for commenting :flowers:
I did have my hands on burnt orange Madison satchel ages ago at a GW. All I remember is that it was beat up to beyond and back. Agreed, this line was probably not designed with my wear and tear day time life in mind. Thanks for the reminder.
I went to several consignment shops nearby yesterday, one was new to me and had many handbags and several vintage Coach. Although I was not interested in any of the styles (priced at $49 and up), I liked getting my hands on them. And making note of theie sizes. Double checking creeds, lol. They had the small top handle Madison in the garnet color. It was gorgeous. And tiny. I need to remind myself to go back every few weeks, great wat to get familiar with bags, brands.

I have a new member of the kisslock family, I guess this color is honey? It's rather yellow, more so than it appears in my pictures I think. It's in amazing condition and surprise! had the little pouch with papers in her. I think she must've been made in 1978 by the number on the catalog booklet. I impressed myself that I own at least one of each of all of the bags inside the booklet. LOL

Also this is in the best condition out of all of them as it looks like it was never used on the inside, and the kisslock has stayed attached properly and is a lovely shiny gold. The corners on 2 of my others have split a lot but this one is perfect!

And here is my family, I'm not even sure what the colors are. I think from the back to the front they are:
mocha?( it;s a darkish brown but not as dark as mahogany), burgandy, tabac, saddle and honey? Those are my guesses.

Thank you for the honest reply. I felt exactly the same way. unless I need to carry my sleeping bag to run away for a night, I would never need that big black hole bag. But I prefer tote bag if I really need to carry many things, because it's bigger opening and easier to get access to things. I guess I will have to sell it and get a smaller bag.
I love your red shoulder sac. you always have so those vintage bags in such vivid colors and good condition.

I also bought one, but not #9085, but a newer, factory bag. I got it for a good price too, but am not in love with it. Its way too big, everything falls to the bottom, and the lack of pockets is annoying. I mean, there's one small one, but so close to the zipper, when i put my phone it in, it pops out. Sigh. I really wanted to like it, but I just can't love it.
