Can you check the buckles on your vintagey bags to see if you have any that are flat, like shown here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/authenticate-this-coach.889527/page-1872
If you do, can I see them and the creed? I'm trying to see if they were used very much.

It looks like at least a third of the buckle styles in my 1986 Summer catalog have that straight flat buckle too. It's hard to tell with some of the photos but so far they've shown it on the Stewardess, Courier Pouch, Duffle Sac, and the Musette. The 1987 Holiday book shows it on those same styles plus the Carrier Bag. !989 Fall shows it on the Duffle Sac and Carrier Bag too.

Styles it's NOT pictured on during that time period seem to be the Rambler, Pocket Bag, Shoulder Sac, 9170 Classic Shoulder Bag, 9530 Shoulder Bag with Turnlock, and the briefcases except for the Carrier Bag.

I've got a poor memory! I just checked. Both my courier pouches, one of which was pre-creed, (which I don't own anymore) had them. None of my classic pouches did. One US creed duffle sac did. I guess they were used interchangeably.

This is a 9085 and I love it. It is my carry on “handbag” so I can include the kitchen sink when travelling! I am 5’ 3” btw. I find the strap length at shortest perfect for reaching into the bottom of the bag without taking it off. I can also wear it crossbody when lengthened. I use a purse organiser and small handbag inside to help the scrabbling around.....
Your comment about travelling reminded me of something. I have a sling bag, which is similiar in size.It fits under the seats in airplanes easily.

[QUOTE="AggieK, post: 32148093, member: 417790" Now I have several dozen thrifted Coach bags.[/QUOTE]
You and me both! Well, a combo of thrift and online GW/Mercari/eBay. My first eBay purchase was a black Saddle and my first thrift was black Patricia.

For anyone who's computer is a bit touchy, the Javascript on that page isn't playing nicely with my older version of Firefox. Chrome works better. But it looks like our famous "unknown Dakota" style 4202, which I'll continue to call a Sundance. If it had an outside back pocket it would be perfect, so I'll watch the battle from the sidelines.
I am interested in the Dakota line. I notice it has the thin piping style where the edges are enclosed (where the Classic bags have the piping edges externally on the bag). How does that piping hold up? I saw a Gramercy (I know, comparing apples to oranges) that had this thinner piping and it was pretty beat up.

Something about the Gramercy textured leather doesn't hold up as well as Dakotas or Sheridans. Although I have a Gramercy that looks great. It doesn't have piping, but it might look like it does since it has stitching near all the edges. I've had a few Dakotas. What I remember is that the piping faded, but it held up well. I've had Sheridans that wore through but I think it wears about the same as classic Coach.

Thanks. I believe the Gramercy I saw this on is a satchel. I'll see if the listing is around.

Hard for me to say because all my Dakotas are from Ebay and I don't buy any bags that have piping damage. But it seems like the piping wouldn't be as durable as the leather used in the main body of the bag. But I haven't noticed too many even on Ebay with loose or worn-through piping either.

I just saw another Dakota on eBay this morning. Coincidentally, this one has worn- through piping.
